"I Never Sail on Anything Less Than 135 Feet"
It will be like March 20th 2001. What I mean by this is that there is nothing that will come out of a rally and march on the 20th except some liberally sore feet (hah!). Even the so-called "radical feeder march" is a fucking j-o-k-e.
As the pages of indymedia say, from the people that are out there, this is a yawn. This is not a reason to leave your homes and go rally with PPRC or the so-called radicals at wither Pioneer Square or the North Park Blocks.
Watching the local news... 6 or 8, can't remember which...
The high cost of housing hurts many in our communities, particularly low income families, seniors and the disabled. Lack of affordable housing pushes people into hunger and homelessness, and has negative impacts on the environment, the economy and the educational system. People throughout the region are getting active around this basic need (details for Rally on 3/11 and efforts in Clackamas & East Mult. County follow).
What if we had a forest of great commercial value and wood products companies were cutting it down as fast as they could? What if that forest were just about half gone and the cutting rate was accellerating? What if that forest could NEVER regrow, ever?
The world's petroleum reserves are that irreplacable forest. They are literally ancient forests and other biomass and we are permitting oil companies to "clearcut" them. Petroleum is a resource of nature. It is natural. It is a very valuable gift from the earth. What is it going to take to wake up and notice what is going to happen as this valuable substance disappears from easy access and easy usability?
Join us for protest and public meeting.

A myth equal to the fable of Iraq's weapons of mass destruction is gaining strength on both sides of the Atlantic. It is that John Kerry offers a world-view different from that of George W Bush. Watch this big lie grow as Kerry is crowned the Democratic candidate and the "anyone but Bush" movement becomes a liberal cause celebre.

We will be gathering signatures for a new PUD effort this coming Saturday, March 6. We'll meet at 10 am at FreeGeek, 1731 SE 10th Avenue (several blocks south of Hawthorne).
The new Willamette Electric PUD will encompass the eight precincts in inner Southeast and Northeast Portland which voted an average 57% in favor of public power in the recent Multnomah County PUD election.
Racicot was quoted as " Senator Kerry crossed a grave line when he dared to suggest the replacement of America 's commander-in- chief at a time when America is at war," while implying that Kerry was a traitorous renegade. Just to remind the snide Racicot, Kerry happens to be a war hero. He has the medals to prove it. The Army doesn't award Purple Hearts out for catching syphilis, in some Mexican whorehouse, while guarding the skies of Texas from VC infiltrators.

I do warn you about the photos ....
Last monday 1st of March 2004 my brother in law, together with some friends were just going out of his house when 2 trucks of the National Guard appeared with 15 guards each one. They started to hit him just there and then they forced him into one of the trucks. In the truck they keep hiting him, furthermore they dropped a tear gas bomb inside the truck (all the GN's were wearing masks).
Haiti was safe for American democracy. One of those who made it so was American Marine General Smedley Butler, who, after he retired, had second thoughts:
I helped make Mexico . . . safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefits of Wall Street. The record of racketeering is long. I helped purify Nicaragua for the international banking house of Brown Brothers in 1909-1912. After speaking about his pacification work in the Dominican Republic, China and elsewhere, Butler said: I suspected I was just part of a racket at the time. Now I am sure of it. Like all the members of the military profession, I never had a thought of my own until I left the service. My mental faculties remained in suspended animation while I obeyed the orders of higher-ups. This is typical ... in the military service. In his memoirs, Butler compared himself unfavourably to Al Capone. His racketeering made Capone look like a piker, Butler said.

I'm getting this ticker tape moving text going across the bottom of my screen, where the bar that lets you move from side to side on your screen normally sits...
Mike Niman has been writing commentaries and columns and doing research on the effects of gov't policies for years, and is a professor at the University of Buffalo, so the issue of teachers being called terrorists strikes a chord with him. This article links together many of the new domestic policies of our fascist gov't and it's repressive foreign policies and gives a new twist to the gay marriage ban I hadn't considered before... (I had to shorten the title to get it to fit on top)
Jeffrey Luers is an Oregon environmental/social justice activist and political prisoner. In June 2001, he was handed an extremely heavy-handed sentence of 22 years in prison for his participation in the destruction of several Sports Utility Vehicles [SUVs]. His reason for targeting SUVs was because they are wasteful and harmful to the environment. The blatant injustice in this case has prompted a wide-range of people to join Jeff's support movement.
