US Army War College Study Lambastes Bu$h 'War on Terror'
A scathing new report published by the Army War College broadly criticizes the Bush administration's handling of the war on terrorism, accusing it of taking a detour into an "unnecessary" war in Iraq and pursuing an "unrealistic" quest against terrorism that may lead to U.S. wars with states that pose no serious threat.

Job Searches in 2003 the Longest in 20 Years
The year 2003 was the most difficult for U.S. job hunters since 1983, as they faced the gloomiest job market in years, according to Labor Department figures released on Friday.

The unemployment rate was the highest since 1994, and the search for a new job was the longest in two decades.

The average spell of unemployment lasted 19.2 weeks in 2003, or almost five months. That was the longest average duration since 1983, when the U.S. economy was emerging from the worst recession since the Depression. Then the average spell was 20.0 weeks.

As a percentage of all the unemployed, the long-term jobless -- those out of work for 27 weeks or more -- made up 22.1 percent in 2003, the highest annual number since 23.9 percent in 1983.

Surreal Times At The Pentagon
The four "bunker buster" bombs were intended for Saddam Hussein, who wasn't there.

No matter. The bombs hit their co-ordinates — so, mission accomplished.

The Pentagon even went to the trouble of hooking up two B-1 pilots by phone so they could enthuse about the incredible "adrenaline rush."

Friday, March 21, two days after President George W. Bush launched "shock-and-awe," Rumsfeld gave his first boffo performance of the war. He talked about the great "humanity" that goes into targeting bombs.

If only the public could see it, he said, in a scene straight out of Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove.

BU$H PLANNED IRAQ INVASION BEFORE 9/11; 'FIND ME A WAY'...
The Bush Administration began making plans for an invasion of Iraq, including the use of American troops, within days of President Bush's inauguration in January of 2001 -- not eight months later after the 9/11 attacks, as has been previously reported.

That's what former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill says in his first interview about his time as a White House insider. In a new book "The Price of Loyalty," O'Neill is quoted as saying he was surprised that no one in a National Security Council meeting questioned why Iraq should be invaded. "It was all about finding a way to do it. That was the tone of it. The president saying 'Go find me a way to do this,'" says O'Neill in the book.

O'Neill talks to CBS News Correspondent Lesley Stahl in the interview, to be broadcast on 60 Minutes, Sunday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. ET/PT.
