500 gallons of diesel leaking into Columbia right now
This happened yesterday. An old unused tugboat is leaking around 500 gallons of Diesel right now, into the Columbia River. The fact that this is a tugboat that is decommissioned speaks to a couple of different concerns - one being property rights... And there is a group that is currently trying to recreate the measure that protects property owners when environmental concerns interfere with their right to make money off their property. So do property owners have the "right" to endanger the ecosystem, and also, does the State owe these property owners compensation for their financial losses when environmental concerns cost them money?

Yellow Peril. I have a series of poems today that discuss Yellow Peril, the Japanes Internment, and the give a shivery sense of foreboding of these days. One of the poems I have included is a vapidly racist poem that was written in 1905 and speaks of the insanity of the white male dominant mindset. It is terrible and I was sorry to include it but if we are to see this next year, the terror campaign that Bush is about to unlease, bringing this Yellow peril demon alive again, we must be prepared. The west coast is most susceptible to this. Refuse!

US Climate Policy Bigger Threat To World Than Terrorism
Tony Blair's chief scientist has launched a withering attack on President George Bush for failing to tackle climate change, which he says is more serious than terrorism.

Sir David King, the Government's chief scientific adviser, says in an article today in the journal Science that America, the world's greatest polluter, must take the threat of global warming more seriously.

"In my view, climate change is the most severe problem that we are facing today, more serious even than the threat of terrorism," Sir David says.

Ex-Marine burns US passport in Occupied Baghdad, tells troops to refuse Bush war
Ex-Marine O'Keefe burns his US passport in Occupied Baghdad Ken O'Keefe is an ex-US Marine. He is a Gulf War Veteran. He is the founder of the Truth Justice Peace (TFP) Human Shield Iraq movement. He chose the infamous Paradise Square for his non-violent act of defiance and solidarity.

Standing amidst a cluster of media in the shadow of where the staged toppling of the statue of Saddam Hussein by the Americans took place, Mr. O'Keefe somberly, yet angrily stated he was to burn his US Passport.

Mr. O'Keefe read the following statement: "First of all, I want to smile and express my deepest love for my entire human family and our infinitely beautiful and irreplaceable home; Planet Earth. What I do I do for truth not lies; for justice not tyranny, for peace not war, for love not hate." Raising his voice while scanning the onlookers, he continues. . .

Deir Ballut is an extremely fertile area, with large tracts of waterlogged land being used as the main growth area for summer crops for the entire Salfit region. Before the Nakba of 1948, the village owned 40 000 dunums of land (or about 100 000 acres). Some families still have papers proving that they own orange groves which are now situated in 'Israel'. Salfit municipality has documents dating as far back as 1903 proving that the land belongs to Palestinians.

Aristocratic houses behind the democratic institutions? An Analysis of Bush/Gore/Cheney
People may scoff that Kevin Phillips latest book, American Dynasty (2004) because Phillips calls the Bush family a royalist dynasty. "What?!" YOu may say, "we are at least democratic, there are no long term aristocracies in power!"

Or is that what the aristocrats, who designed your peasant schools and your peasant curricula, told you to think to make you compliant to their informal power? Read on, and hopefully the scales will drop from your eyes and guard you against still living royalists who ape democratic slogans. Hopefully it will help you configure your sense of 'modern history' very differently: democracy as a work in progress slowly ridding aristocratic houses from manpulating the democratic institutions.

Carnegie Endowment Proves No "WMD" in Iraq
Conclusive proof that Bu$hCo and his regime lied big-time to the American public and the world. Oh yea, don't forget to lay balme on King George's lap-dog - Tony Blair as well.

SUMMARY OF KEY FINDINGS

Iraq WMD Was Not An Immediate Threat
· Iraq's nuclear program had been suspended for many years; Iraq focused on preserving a latent, dual-use chemical and probably biological weapons capability, not weapons production.
· Iraqi nerve agents had lost most of their lethality as early as 1991.
· Operations Desert Storm and Desert Fox, and UN inspections and sanctions effectively destroyed Iraq's large-scale chemical weapon production capabilities.

The "3 bullets and a time machine" question
This is a frankly disturbing question that a few friends of mine have become prone to batting around from time to time. It asks you to make a purely hypothetical statement regarding human history, and how you would change it if you had to shoot three people at any point in our history. It may reveal something unpleasant about you, but it's interesting anyway. Since we don't have time machines, this is purely hypothetical.
