TIME Mag honors 'US soldier' as person of the year
US President George W Bush and Mr Rumsfeld were candidates but "the very messy aftermath of the war has made it clear that Washington's policy was going to have to be carried out day by day by the soldiers on the ground," Mr Kelly said.

"We thought the title belonged to those people."

The endless war on mothers and babies
On another front, the same struggles are taking place. Birth has now truly become a surgical procedure, brought to you by the elite power brokers(insurance companies, physicians, some midwives, corporate media), who seek to control and make lots of money on human reproduction, the ultimate prize. By creating the old risk-fear-money cycle, the birth machine eats us and our children.

Saddam Looks Sick or Drugged, According to Photographer
Wow. The U.S. military is drugging and submitting Saddam Hussein to harsh prison conditions. We should not allow the Bush administration to kill Saddam in prison or brutalize him prior to trial if this thing is going to have any legitimacy. Besides, Bush only wants to have Saddam say what Dad's friends WANT him to say and leave out the rest. We need Saddam protected and given adequate legal representation so that the TRUTH comes out, including our nation's sad and sordid part in it. If Saddam is drugged or killed, we will never know.

Risky Business in Iraq
The reconstruction of Iraq has emerged as a vast protectionist racket, a neocon New Deal that transfers limitless public funds --in contracts, loans and insurance--to private firms, and even gets rid of the foreign competition to boot, under the guise of "national security." Ironically, these firms are being handed this corporate welfare so they can take full advantage of Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA)-imposed laws that systematically strip Iraqi industry of all its protections, from import tariffs to limits on foreign ownership.

In a position that's likely to alienate some Democratic primary voters, retired Gen. Wesley Clark is a big booster of the controversial "School of the Americas" - which critics charge has history of graduating Latin American soldiers accused of rape, murder and torture.

Clark isn't embarrassed about ties to the military installation - his campaign Web site features a commencement speech he delivered there a few years ago. "There is nothing going on in these institutions that you in the United States Congress wouldn't be extraordinarily proud of," Clark once testified to Congress.

The military has made 8,581 medical evacuations from Operation Iraqi Freedom for non-hostile causes in addition to the 2,273 wounded -- a total of 10,854, according to the new data. The Pentagon says that 457 troops have died.

The Pentagon's casualty update for Operation Iraqi Freedom listed on its Web site, however, does not reflect thousands of the evacuations.

It is a toll the country has not seen since Vietnam, said Aseneth Blackwell, former national president of Gold Star Wives of America, Inc., a support group for people who lose a spouse from war.

"It is staggering," said Blackwell.

Earlier this week, I sat down to talk with more than 20 young men and women from nations ranging from China and Nigeria to Colombia and Egypt. They work in U.S. embassies in their native countries and are traveling the United States to learn something about their new employer.

One question in particular struck home:

"We watch the American government be friends with this dictator over here and support him, because he will give you the oil or minerals or something that you want," one person stood up to say. "But then with this other dictator over there, who is not so friendly and cooperative, you will start talking about democracy just so you can get rid of him. This is so hypocritical, to use democracy this way, like a weapon. Do Americans think that the world does not understand what it is you are doing?"

Attorney General John Ashcroft's 2000 Senate campaign and his political action committee have agreed to pay a $37,000 civil fine for campaign finance violations.

Ashcroft, a Republican, was running for re-election to his Missouri Senate seat, challenged by former Democratic Gov. Mel Carnahan. Carnahan died in a plane crash during the campaign, but his name remained on the ballot and voters elected him. His wife, Jean Carnahan, was then appointed to the seat.

President Bush later named Ashcroft attorney general. Ashcroft oversees the Justice Department, which shares responsibility with the FEC for enforcing campaign finance laws.

The Pentagon reported finding "blood all over the floor," "dirty pans," "dirty grills," "dirty salad bars" and "rotting meats ... and vegetables" in four of the military messes the company operates in Iraq, NBC said, citing Pentagon documents.

After eight months of fruitless search, George Bush has in effect washed his hands of the hunt for Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, in whose name the United States and Britain went to war last March.

David Kay, the CIA adviser who headed the US-led search for WMD, is to quit, before submitting his assessment to the US President in February.

The departure of Mr Kay, a strong believer in the case for toppling Saddam Hussein because of his alleged weapons, comes as a particular embarrassment to Tony Blair. This week he maintained that Mr Kay had uncovered "massive evidence" of a network of WMD laboratories.

Time to leave the Washington world of media spin for a moment here, and briefly touch base with reality. Uday and Qusay do not get along at the best of times, and in any event, for security reasons travel independently with separate highly-trained teams of special forces bodyguards front and rear.
Uday and Qusay always have "back doors" through which to exit from any given location or locations, and would be insane to even consider hiding in a house in Mosul, a northern Iraqi city surrounded on all sides by murderous Kurdish terrorists, each and every one of whom would murder either or both brothers for ten cents. Both brothers are flamboyant and perhaps even eccentric, but neither is insane. Now let us discard reality completely, and catch up with the latest absurd White House propaganda.

More amazing details on the psyop "Saddam capture " hoax
Everyone knows that when police officers pick up a suspect, the last thing on their minds is running a complex two-day DNA test to check his ancestry, or to see whether suspect whatshisname might allegedly be predisposed to Alzheimer's or some other quasi-medical horror. Of course not! If there is the slightest doubt about identity, police officers fingerprint whatshisname, and then compare those prints with incriminating prints from various different crime scenes. Get sufficient identical characteristics or "points" with fingerprinting, and you have the perfect match.
In the case of the real President Saddam Hussein this would be simplicity itself, because perfect copies of the Iraqi Leader's thumb prints are scattered liberally across Baghdad, and are also held in the safes of one German and two British companies, including the Morris Singer Foundry. During 1986 Morris Singer was part of a German-led consortium, which cast the bronze arms for Saddam Hussein's enormous Hands of Victory Arch in Baghdad. We will return to this fascinating story later.
