Community Based Change--Dis-Integrating the Empire
There is a movement here in Portland and in other cities/communities around the world. This movement does not fit nicely into any single category or definition, it is organic and ever-changing as the people that help with it change and grow themselves. This is a central point of the world we are trying to create, to make it for the people, not for the profit.

The Empire is integrated into most people through mind numbing barrages of television commercials, news shows, newspaper articles and advertisements, whatever permeates the everyday life of the peple, the Empire will take over and push its message unknowingly to these people. And we, the communities that work against this Empire need to combat thhat through a variety of actions and means to create the mutual end: freedom.

It is a daunting task to move into a position to fight this empire. Whatever front you choose as your own it is already saturated and overpowered by various factions of this empire to make it mear impossible to affect change on your own. We need to create broad-based coalitions of individuals and collectives, that are patterned by the way that we want to live (whatever that may be) and work together for that mutual end.

By creating coalitions of like minded people we give ourselves some advantages. We give ourselves numbers. We give ourselves support. We give oursleves hope. We give ourselves power. We give ourselves a chance to create the world we want and break out this world that we are overshadowed by.

Convicted Felons Worked As Managers, Programmers For Electronic Voting Companies
Voter advocate Bev Harris alleged Tuesday that managers of a subsidiary of Diebold Inc., one of the country's largest voting equipment vendors, included a cocaine trafficker, a man who conducted fraudulent stock transactions, and a programmer jailed for falsifying computer records.

The programmer, Jeffrey Dean, wrote and maintained proprietary code used to count hundreds of thousands of votes as senior vice president of Global Election Systems Inc. Diebold purchased GES in January 2002. According to a public court document released before GES hired him, Dean served time in a Washington correctional facility for stealing money and tampering with computer files in a scheme that "involved a high degree of sophistication and planning."

"You can't tell me these people passed background tests," Harris, author of "Black Box Voting: Ballot Tampering in the 21st Century," said in a phone interview.

Call Centers Mushroom In India: 'Hello, y'all'
Feeling heat from a increasingly vociferous anti-offshoring lobby in America, many Indian call centers, including one owned by MsourcE that services Georgia's electronic benefits helpline for food stamp and temporary cash recipients, are hesitant to discuss their contracts. MsourcE refused to allow a reporter within its walls; the firm's agents who answer the helpline are instructed not to divulge their location.

Last month, Texas-based Dell directed some customer service calls back to staff in the United States after complaints that Indian technical support workers relied too heavily on scripted answers and were difficult to understand.

"Some people don't want to talk to Indians," said Namrata Yadav, 23, an agent for Daksh, whose clients include Amazon.com, Yahoo, Sprint and Delta Air Lines. "I've had people ask me if I am sitting on an elephant or if I knew the positions of the Kama Sutra," Yadav said. "Others say they don't want to talk to terrorists. It can be disconcerting."

Yadav sympathized with U.S. workers losing their jobs because of outsourced contracts. But in the end, he and other agents said, it was America's notions of free trade that gave birth to their industry in the first place.

"Who are we to stop conglomerates from being business savvy?" asked i-Seva's Narayan. "What goes around comes around in this world."
