Dispatch From Baghdad
George Bush and Donald Rumsfeld and Paul Wolfowitz and Condoleezza Rice and Tony Blair and Dick Cheney are insane. I don't know what they think they are doing here, but if it involves order and sanity they have failed miserably and indefinitely. It's obvious enough from the newspaper accounts but you have to see it for yourself. They have caused a catastrophe here. The events of the past year have moved so quickly we tend to forget about the effect of 12 years of economic sanctions. "The price is worth it?" I don't know what they're going to do, and the masters of war themselves must be terrified.

Portland Peace Encampment scheduled to be terminated with-in next 14 hours.
The Portland Peace Encampment will most likely fall victum to oppresion like never seen before during there close to 5 month stay. Citing the new sit-lie (stand) city ordinance and their new guidelines of enforcement the Portland Police will attempt to end the Vigil before Mayor Katz returns from her extended vacation on Wednesday morning. Many say the camp will be swept to its end because the Mayor is very unhappy it still exists across from Portland City Hall. Officer's decrestion is the key term here. It's up to them to decide who and how those are in violation.

ALL IS WELL
Corporate earnings are dismal. The S&P P/E ratios sit at 32, meaning that stocks are selling at 32 times their earnings (good stocks are considered to have a P/E ratio of ten or under).

The US trade deficit will be over $500 billion this year. The "estimated" $455 billion federal budget deficit does not include Iraq, Afghanistan, and homeland defense either, so will it be $600 billion in the hole? $750 billion? Since DC rarely tells the truth, no one knows.

Consumer debt is at an all time high, in the hundreds of billions of dollars, and climbing at a 5.1% annual rate. Bankruptcies are also at virtually all time highs, and climbing. In August of 2002, natural gas prices were $2.64 per million BTUs, and according to the Dept of Energy, by January of 2004, the price will be more than $9.00 for the same amount, tripling in a year and a half. The Iraq debacle is costing $4 billion a month, and no end is in sight.

Portland city officials annd police will unleash an aggressive new enforcement regime for the city's 'Obstructions as Nuisances' law, commonly known as the "Sit-Lie Ordinance". In an August 11 email to Marc Jolin of the Oregon Law Center, Deputy City Attorney David Woboril wrote that 'Mayor Katz has asked me to make available to you revised sidewalk obstruction guidelines which will become effective this week.' Woboril also delivered a draft copy of the revised guidelines, hatched in the corridors of city power without input from the public.

There's only one candidate for president who has the potential to deliver what the vast majority of Americans want: peace, security, jobs, lower taxes, health care, education, fixing social security, infrastruture development, social services, a better environment.

Iraqi guerrillas have been killing US troops at the rate of about two a day. Even if the fighting does not escalate any further, at least a thousand more American troops will die in Iraq before the election in November, 2004.

Drop a grenade on a Humvee from an overpass, walk up behind an American soldier in a crowded market and shoot him dead, plant a radio-controlled mine in the road: it's easy in a country awash with weapons, and meanwhile the Americans push the population into your arms with endless heavy-handed raids in search of Saddam Hussein, as if he mattered.
