Culture of Mass Denial Encounters Cognitive Dissonance
Why are most Americans unwilling to question the US Government's shabby cover story for Sept. 11th? The short answer: because denial of the truth is easier than confrontation. In the Culture of Mass Denial crafted by the US Government the sleepers, or sheep, will sometimes lash out violently when presented with facts that contradict their carefully preserved worldview (1). In a one-to-one situation confrontation is ill advised. You must carefully asses whether or not the subject is willing to question what they've been taught. Listening is important. Round about conversation is the first step. [ Read More ]

You Can Choose The Constitution or You Can Choose the Flag and the President
dead As Americans begin to celebrate the 4th of July it is important in my opinion to discuss what exactly is patriotism. The Bush regime would have us believe in this time of war, the war and terrorism, the never ending war, as it is impossible to win a war on terrorism especially using military might, that we must support the president regardless of the criminal and unethical behavior of many members of the regime. That we must support the president even though the war is undeclared and illegal and not supported by the United Nations Security Council. That this support regardless of all the facts that are playing out before our very eyes to the contrary, that this support is patriotic. That in fact dissent is unpatriotic and immoral.

Well I have some very serious problems with that idea. First of all I am a Canadian living in the U.S. who will never become a citizen of the U.S. for the simple fact that I will be asked at the citizenship ceremony to pledge allegiance to a flag. I will never pledged allegiance to a flag. Let me say it again. I will never pledge allegiance to a flag. Pledging allegiance to flag is the very source of the brainwashing that many Americans suffer from. [ Read More ] [ Happy 4th of July! ]

Pat Robertson Engages in Illegal Mining Operation in Liberia
Rev. Robertson is not troubled or concerned at all about doing business with President Taylor, a man widely known for "fueling the violence in Sierra Leone" and "actively supporting the RUF at all levels." Taylor is a known menace to his people as well as a danger to his neighbors in the West African sub-region. The heinous atrocities he inflicted upon the Liberian people are well documented, yet Pat Robertson claims to "have no knowledge of the activities in Liberia during its bitter civil war."

Iraqis take Bush's words to heart; US offers reward for lost dictator
Seven American soldiers were wounded in two separate attacks in Iraq today, a day after the US president, George Bush, said there were enough troops in Iraq to deal with the militants.

The US-led occupying powers in Iraq today announced a $25m (£15m) reward for information leading to the capture of Saddam Hussein or proof of his death.

President George Bush yesterday taunted the Iraqi groups waging a guerrilla war against US and British troops, saying "bring them on" and vowing that the coalition would not be forced into an early departure.

We cannot afford to forget this tradegy without achieving community recognition because it places every rider at greater risk and the ultimate cost is further injury to our cycling community.

PPD Dances Around Issues at Kendra James Community Forum
Went to the "Community Forum" to discuss concerns and outrage about the murder of Kendra James and all the other unjustified racial targetting, harassment and killing of people of color by Portland Police in this city historically and presently. I don't know what my white idealistic self was thinking when I went there... that we were going to be given some answers? Some idea of a plan of action the PPD is planning on taking to break this cycle of racial profiling and targetting by police.? An indication that there may soon be new trainings and probationary time periods for rookies, more stringent policies surrounding "Officer-Involved Shootings".... Maybe some idea of how/whether this unjust killing and obvious cover-up will be avoided in the future.

Howard Dean to get Whacked like a Pinata
The theory goes that he is a frontrunner now, and that, as such, he will be whacked like a pinata and that all manner of pink-wrapped liberal candy will fall out and voters will recoil in horror. At least that's what the spinners are saying.

As voters/surfers/readers take a closer look at Dean, they will discover how similar, in many ways, he and Bush are. It's as though we're headed for a campus-wide election at Yale in the late '60s, with a soundtrack by, say, Neil Young and the Drifters. (Don't forget: John Kerry and Joe Lieberman are '60s-era Yalies, too, and that Dick Cheney was one for two years, before flunking out.)

Bicycles in a Responsible Community
This is a repost due to infiltration by a deep intellectual who felt it necessary to demonstrate with photos where he keeps his brain, unfortunately, it appears from the photo that he has misplaced it and is frantically attempting to locate it. Potentially, he might keep a leash on his brain just as those Hollywood types do when they take their little hamsters for a walk.

Fortunately, this infiltration allowed me to repost the final draft which corrects the glaring errors that were errantly posted with an earlier draft. A special shout out to Brain-in-Butt guy...you're really cool...and good luck finding it.

Here is the summary of the article: The emphasis of responsibility and safety is always placed back on the cyclist. Consider, for instance, that there is no bicycle safety campaign designed to raise public awareness and acceptance of bicycles as traffic. There has never been a media campaign designed to alert motorists to the rights of cyclists on the roadway. Traffic fines never double in areas where cyclists are particularly vulnerable and motorist is invariably impatient, like crossing the Steel Bridge. There is no community forum in which cyclists sit among police as community peers to discuss the needs of the rapidly growing cycling community to protect their safety in traffic. All of these failures to socially recognize the rights of the cyclist as traffic needlessly place the cyclist in greater danger.
