Multnomah PUD. Let the bitter debate begin here!
The Issue of a Multnomah Public Utility District hasn't been discussed much on IMC of late. The issue will hit hard this fall. It's time for us Indymedia people to go over the issues and talk about them seriously. There's a lot to this proposal the agitators and signature gatherers don't know or don't want to address. Here are a few points of concern.

Gallup Poll 09.06.2003 14:02
Its Official, the United States of America is a Nation of Flag-Waving Sheeple
A Recent poll confirms what many people around this planet already suspected-- the Patriotic Sheeple of the USA are living in an American Matrix of their own creation. Steven Kull, director of PIPA, comments: "For some Americans, their desire to support the war may be leading them to screen out information that weapons of mass destruction have not been found. Given the intensive news coverage and high levels of public attention to the topic, this level of misinformation suggests that some Americans may be avoiding having an experience of cognitive dissonance."

invite forwarded in solidarity 09.06.2003 11:56
Friday, June 20 is a National Day of Prayer - Sacramento State Capitol!
I got the following invitation from a member of the Pitt River, whose tribal lands are in northeastern California, around Mt. Shasta and the Medicine Lake Highlands. These lands, sacred to the American Indian Peoples of northern California and southern Oregon, including the Pitt River, Klamath-Modoc and Shasta tribes, are threatened by subsidized energy development. In November 2002, the Bush administration overturned an earlier decision that denied development projects due to significant cultural and environmental impacts.

national conspiracy against critical mass?
Hey everyone, I'm from Buffalo NY, so I go to their IMC website every now and then... not as fancy or flashy as the one here in portland, but some similar things and more are happening there that I think folks here might want to know about... We often take such pride in our own city that we forget about the resistance and solidarity-building among movements struggling for change from this oppressive system that is happening in other cities on and off this continent... so here's a little from a "sister city"...

America is not a noble country..Flag conservatives (in contrast to value conservatives) like Bush act as though they believed in the old values but completely ignore them. They use the flag; they use biblical symbols like `evil' unscrupulously. They live in the illusion that America is the good and the only hope for the world. Without empire, the country goes downhill.." Translated from the German in Spiegel 21/2003
