Germ-Warfare Tests Gone Awry In Spotlight
SAN FRANCISCO -- Fifty-one years ago, Edward Nevin checked into a San Francisco hospital, complaining of chills, fever and general malaise. Three weeks later, the 75-year-old retired pipe fitter was dead, the victim of what doctors said was an infection of the bacterium Serratia marcescens.

Resume' - George W. Bush
A BUZZFLASH READER COMMENTARY by Kelley Kramer
I recently had an email exchange with a right-winger from my local newspaper,
and of course the war with Iraq came up pretty quick. But he said something
in defense of George Bush that really surprised me. In defense of the attack on Iraq he said 'between Hussein and Bush, Hussein is the bad guy'. My first response was ... So your guy is better than a third world dictator, Wow! what an accomplishment! Does he put that on his resume? And with that in mind, I started wondering ... what would a George W. Bush resume look like exactly?

Visiting professor speaks on 'Topplegate' Stuart Ewen's starting point was the picture of Saddam Hussein's statue toppling in Iraq, an event he called "topplegate." He then showed slides of Iraqis kissing Marines at the event.

But wait, "none of these people were citizens of Baghdad," Ewen said, citing information by alternative media reporter Ted Rall. The jubilant Iraqis were members of the United States-based Iraqi National Congress, whose leader Ahmed Chalabi stands a chance of being the next president of Iraq.

the Super Rich are Out Of Sight
The top 0.25 percent owns more wealth than the other 99ĺ percent combined . . . the Census Bureau revealed that for years they never interviewed anyone who had an income higher than $300,000. Or if interviewed, they were never recorded as above the "reportable upper limit" of $300,000 allowed by the bureau's computer program. In 1994, the bureau lifted the upper limit to $1 million--still excluding the very richest who own the lion's share of the wealth, the hundreds of billionaires and thousands of multimillionaires who make many times more than $1 million a year. The super rich simply have been computerized out of the picture.

Jobless and Hopeless, Many Quit Labor Force
Over the last two years, the portion of Americans in the labor force ó those who are either working or actively looking for work ó has fallen 0.9 percentage points to 66.2 percent, the largest drop in almost 40 years. Because of the number of people now outside of the labor force, the unemployment rate does not give the same kind of information it did in the 1970's or 1960's.

"There aren't any jobs, just not any," laid-off Bill Jacobs said. "I had been waiting it out. But it turns out there is nothing. It's a dead-end street."
