PEACE PARK LIVES! MAJOR VICTORY! SUPPORT NOW .... TARPS, BLANKETS, SCRABBLE

Photo of Monday rally, Peace Park. Now going 24 hours a day, a major victory in the anti-war effort. Little Beirut (A.K.A. Portland) one of handful of cities in the country where support so high the authorities haven't dared shut it down. BUT IT NEEDS ONGOING COMMUNITY SUPPORT! REINFORCEMENTS, TARPS, BLANKETS...CERTAIN PROVISIONS...AND MOSTLY WATERPROOF MATERIALS FOR MAKING SIGNS.

Call the mayors office, say police used exessive force 503 823-4120
We've all been hearing about the people calling the mayor and saying the police should have been harder on the protesters. I say everbody who feels the police are too brutal and using exessive force against peaceful protesters should call the mayor's office and say so. (503)823-4120.

Pre-set Orders of Thin Blue Line at Today's Demo
The police actions today were not in general based on "emotion". Having paid attention at several actions in recent days, I've concluded that they are: 1. Largely pre-set prior to a rally. 2. Largely based on political strategy called by someone higher up (Where? Could be in the police department, the city administration, or even Federal Homeland security. Although the later would be illegal under Oregon 181 laws, you would have to prove it.

Anyalysis of M25 Police Tactics, suggestions
This article tries to answer these questions about the M25 protests in Portland: Is the reason for police pulling peaceful protestors into the streets only to intimidate us? Or were today's tactics a media-ready spectacle designed by police with serious negative consequences for us? What are implications of being so manipulated by the police? What can we do about it?

Hypocrisy stalks the land
I have been in and out of Iraq more often than the Turkish army these past few days, viewing the war both firsthand and on the surprisingly copious array of television news channels available all over Syria and Jordan. I heard Donald Rumsfeld on the radio discussing "the humanity that goes into" building the kind of weapons of mass destruction that America prefers these days. I saw for myself enough of their effects, the inevitable consequences of their inbuilt humanity, to convince myself that no dialogue is possible with Washington's current leadership.

INTERESTING ANALYSIS OF THE BOOING AT MICHAEL MOORE'S OSCAR SPEECH
"When Michael Moore delivered his blast of the Bush Reich at the Oscars, he was, in reality, given a standing ovation and hearty applause. But, to hear the soundbyte presented on the network news, you'd never know it. All you can hear are boos...which, in fact, came from about five people, from eyewitness accounts." Looks like Michael Moore more right than even he knew, we do live in FICTIOUS TIMES...

today's rally/march/arrest fest

These are pictures taken during today's (3/25) march and rally. The police early arrested a young man for jaywalking and my camera had no data card space left. I really wish I had that picture. The ones you'll see here range from about 12:30 to about 2:30pm. As far as I could see, the cops were busting folks for crossing the street. Hopefully people will see these and give a clearer narration... (article 1)

Australian pilot gives thumbs down to US bombing order

The decision of the RAAF pilot not to attack an Iraqi target was taken when his Hornet, armed with a range of strike weapons, was ordered away from the round-the-clock escort missions the Australians have been flying since war started.
"However, the crew chose not to complete the mission because they could not positively identify the target," Defence Force spokesman Brigadier Mike Hannan said.

Why Basra matters

Basra and Umm Qasr are also key to Iraq's southern oil wealth on the Faw peninsula. One of the first major objectives was to seize port facilities and secure the nearby 1,000 or so oil wells, amid fears that fighters loyal to Saddam Hussein would set them alight.

US Acknowledges Hitting Non-Military Targets in Basra

"It is fair to say that the targets that we are engaging will not be conventional military targets," Captain Williamson said.
"They will not be barracks or proper weapons facilities and chances are that it could be someone's house but they are military sites.
"When you are fighting non-conventional forces it is inevitable that there are going to be targets that people would not normally consider to be military targets," he said.
