NO WAY TO TREAT A VETERAN
US CONSULATE GUANGZHOU I met with the deputy consul briefly while in detention in Shenzhen in February, 2019. At the very least I would like to document this and perhaps request some remedy, if available.

Poor Despite Work
Vancouver B.C. has 26 community centers that give working and nonworking persons an identity in the modern project. Three-hours of free computer use, libraries, game rooms, gyms, theaters, and casserole dinners for $4 are among the many amenities. The economy should be a part of a greater whole or oikos that doesn't crush self-determination and creativity. Led by the US, financial markets worldwide have uncoupled from the real economy and public investment stagnates.

Make Social Democracy Great Again
Erik Olin Wright spoke of smashing, taming, escaping & eroding capitalism as the alternatives of a transformational left. We must resist the "selective perception" of the elite that ignores market distortions (tax havens, micro-second trading, stock buybacks & insider trading), market failures (housing & health care), political failures (state reduced to an errand boy for banks), power concentration, oligopoly formation & attacks on the poor, seniors, disabled, children,& students.

Hong Kong: Pure Western Insanity
Thousands took to the streets on Saturday afternoon assembling before the United States Consulate in Central, to "express gratitude" for passing the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act. They were waving US flags, chanting the Star-Spangled Banner and are asking for more support. They pledge not to let go until all their demands are met.

Essentially, they want total independence from Beijing and become a US colony. They should look at Puerto Rico, what it means to be a US colony, what Washington has in store for its colonies. Or closer to their own history, they should look at their UK colonial past - and remember their state of oppression, the almost zero rights they had then.

The real purpose of the 50-year special status of Hong Kong that the UK (and US) negotiated with Beijing, was to keep this unregulated eastern financial paradise alive for western oligarchs' often illicit and tax-evading financial transactions of which the western - UK and US - bankers and financiers were the key beneficiaries and profiteers. These US-inspired violent protests are meant to destabilize the Government of Beijing - which is, of course, a pipedream - when in fact, they are slowly committing suicide. Washington and London are disabling Hong Kong of her west-serving money-laundering capacity.

And if it comes really down to the level of intolerant crime and violence against the majority of HK citizens by this foreign-inspired and funded disruption of SAR, Beijing could in less than 24 hours put an end to it. So simple. The west could just gape, but say nothing, because it is in Beijing's full right to restore law and order in their territories.

The way out for a world economy hooked on debt? More debt

Student debt
U.S. students owe $1.5 trillion in debt. (Paul J. Richards / AFP/Getty Images)
---

Dec. 6, 2019 4 AM

Zombie companies in China. Crippling student bills in America. Sky-high mortgages in Australia. Another default scare in Argentina.

A decade of easy money has left the world with a record $250 trillion of government, corporate and household debt. That's almost three times global economic output and equates to about $32,500 for every man, woman and child on Earth.

Much of that legacy stems from policymakers' deliberate efforts to use borrowing to keep the global economy afloat in the wake of the financial crisis. Rock-bottom interest rates in the years since has kept the burden manageable for most, allowing the debt mountain to keep growing.

Now, as policymakers grapple with the slowest growth since that era, a suite of options on how to revive their economies share a common denominator: yet more debt.

while Americans have been fixated on the carefully orchestrated impeachment drama that continues to monopolize headlines, Congress passed and President Trump signed into law legislation extending three key provisions of the USA Patriot Act, which had been set to expire on December 15, 2019.

The Life and Times of Jimmy Hoffa
November 29, 2019

Jimmy Hoffa used to say he'd be forgotten ten years after his death. This was an uncharacteristically unintelligent judgment. Forty-four years after his murder on July 30, 1975, Hoffa is still famous enough that one of the most celebrated movies of the year is about the man who claims to have killed him, Frank Sheeran. Called 'The Irishman', the film, directed by Martin Scorsese, stars Robert De Niro as Sheeran, Al Pacino as Hoffa, and Joe Pesci as Russell Bufalino, the Mob boss who approved the killing. For a labor leader, such a level of fame is not only extraordinary; it is unique.[1]

COMMENTS on Houseless Sweeps Directive, November 2019
Below are comments from Portland Copwatch (PCW) on the "Managing Public
Spaces" Directive posted for review in early November at
 https://www.portlandoregon.gov/police/article/746183 . This Directive,
number 835.20, was previously titled "Established Campsites on Public
Property." Since the substance of the policy seems aimed at people
living on the streets, and not how Portland Police patrol parks, and the
major actions contemplated involve throwing out people's belongings, the
new title seems more like a whitewash than an improvement. That is why
we titled our analysis "Comments on Houseless Sweeps Directive." We also
can't help but note the irony of this policy coming under review during
Thanksgiving.

Ukrainegate 13,000 Times Worse Than You Think
November 22nd, 2019

Did you know that Donald Trump had the State Department, USAID, NED, and the CIA fund and train Neo-Nazi, fascist militias to overthrow the government of Ukraine? These riot mobs, primarily Svoboda and Right Sector, stormed the capital, firebombed and shot the police, and destroyed democracy inside Ukraine. When the legitimately elected president was forced out by the rioters, the population which had supported him in the east seceded from the country, tearing the entire nation into pieces and sparking a civil war. The Ukraine civil war has cost the lives of over 13,000 Ukrainians. There is so much blood on Donald Trump's hands.

Oh, wait a minute! That was Barack Obama. Change that paragraph, please.

Imperialism is Like a Multilevel Marketing Company, with its Own Military
November 22nd, 2019

You can call it the way the world works, capitalism abroad, or simply the system. But whatever you call it, it is interesting how much the international economic structure operates like multilevel marketing.

In a typical MLM company — Amway remains the best known example, but there are many others — products are sold, but so is an ideology. This ideology is the key to generating profit for the capitalists who started the corporation and a few lucky early insiders. While Amway does sell health, homecare and beauty merchandise, its most important product is the idea that anyone who joins the company can become rich. Selling that notion is what keeps every successful MLM company going. It's what attracts new recruits, who soon learn that the best way to make money is by enticing more new recruits and on and on. A percentage of the revenue generated by every recruit goes to the person who recruited her and on and on back up the pyramid to the founders of the company.

Apartment rents have increased faster than the increased income of wage-earners. Real estate decays to an object of speculation. Capital seeks lucrative investments. Is Bernie Sanders Electable?
November 22nd, 2019

In his 2007 classic "Deer Hunting With Jesus: Dispatches from America's Class War"—a book that, in the age of Donald Trump, is more relevant than ever—Joe Bageant makes an observation that cuts to the nub of the matter. America, he says, isn't composed of some great middle class; it is an overwhelmingly working-class country. "If we define 'working class' simply as not having a college degree, then fully three-quarters [or at least two-thirds] of all Americans are working-class." He continues:

"Class," however, is defined not in terms of income or degrees but in terms of power. Especially regarding labor. If you define "working class" in terms of power—bosses who have it and workers who don't—at least 60 percent of America is working class, and the true middle class—the journalists, professionals and semiprofessionals, people in the management class, etc.—are not more than one-third at best.

In fact, professionals, such as journalists and teachers, live increasingly precarious, disenfranchised lives, as revealed by the upsurge of teacher strikes in the last couple of years. Many professionals belong right next to truck drivers, medical technicians, retail workers, and the chronically unemployed and underemployed in the exploited, low-paid working class.

9/11 — Painting Cats
New York's World Trade Towers were destroyed on live TV, absorbing most of the nation's morbid curiosity on that fateful Tuesday. The Pentagon, by contrast, was struck "off-camera," as it were, because we'll never know how many cameras the Pentagon strike was recorded by since all cameras in the vicinity were quickly confiscated by federal agents. Which might be a good thing. After all, who could bear to watch footage of the Pentagon being hit over and over and over again the way the TV kept re-playing the South Tower strike? Even if it was a missile, who really cares?

Nevertheless, the blackout surrounding the Pentagon strike has tended to breed theorizings that deviate wildly from the official story. Take the case of Hani Hanjour, for example. Hanjour, a Saudi Arabian, figures prominently in the 9/11 narrative as the pilot who dare-deviled Flight 77 into the first floor of the Pentagon's unaccountably re-modeled West Wing, where all the accountants reporting to duty were. Somehow, most certified 9/11 experts remain convinced that Hanjour was the pilot, even though he was denied a pilot's license on more than one occasion in his home country, Saudi Arabia.

In any case, whether or not Hani Hanjour was a great pilot, or Bush the Second a coup-struck Supreme Court electee, I would like to return to the title of this foray into 9/11ness: Painting Cats.

Today, George Bush paints cats, painting his conscience in oil-based paints, trying to forget that day when things just blew up and away...

Why Trump Is Facing Impeachment
The United States has spent EIGHT TRILLION DOLLARS fighting and policing in the Middle East. Thousands of our Great Soldiers have died or been badly wounded. Millions of people have died on the other side. GOING INTO THE MIDDLE EAST IS THE WORST DECISION EVER MADE... ..

— Tweet, Donald J. Trump, October 9, 2019.

Defying even the Las Vegas bookies' predictions, Trump became the 45th President of the US. He had kvetched about the plight of US workers and made some noise about ending unending wars, but was he for real? After all, Obama had promised to get out of Gitmo and NAFTA, but ended up doing neither. Obama, the former critic of Bush's Iraq war, continued Bush's wars and started a handful of his own.

To date he has failed to start a new war. The last US president with a similar failing was the one-term Jimmy Carter. And now Trump is showing insufficient enthusiasm for continuing the war in Syria and possibly even a closet aversion to starting World War III with nuclear-armed Russia. These may be impeachable offenses in the estimation of parts of the ruling class.

Obama: The Greatest War President
Obama, the drone president, stood for seven aggressive wars at once, more than any other US president.

Jeremy Kuzmarov has written a seminal book, Obama's Unending Wars: Fronting the Foreign Policy of the Permanent Warfare State (Clarity Press, August 2019), on the US Military Empire led for eight years by a black-faced president residing in the African slave-constructed White House.

The author peels the imperial white mask off the black skin in an analogy to Frantz Fanon's classic work. Racism, colonization and contemporary neo-colonialization have distorted the psyches of many people of all colors. Barak Obama's black Kenyan roots allowed him to do the white man's bidding throughout Africa, and many other nations. While George Bush founded the US African Command (AFRICOM), in 2007, it was Obama, who set about implementing military (and economic) domination over African governments and lands.

Kuzmarov's impeccable and extensive research reveals the reality of Obama's eight presidential years favoring the rich class' economic and military-warring interests. Like a few other seminal books about the US Military Empire—Oliver Stone/Peter Kuznick The Untold History of the USA and Douglas Valentine The CIA & Organized Crime—this historian has read, skimmed through and compiled thousands of books and pertinent articles about his subject. One might dispute the author's analysis or conclusions but an honest reader cannot dispute the facts with which he shows how jingoist, brutal and unjust US foreign policy is.

The Killing Fields Of American Health Care
American health care is being crushed under the iron heel of a cabal of ruthless and merciless robber barons. Indeed, this primitive and backward system continues to be a source of horrendous suffering, as the health insurance companies, hospital executives, and pharmaceutical companies repeatedly place their insatiable lust for profit over the lives of their fellow Americans. And the health care oligarchs should be proud of what they have achieved: For they have created a health care system that is unrivaled in the industrialized world for its degradation and barbarity.

As economic inequality grows in America, so too does inequality of health care. Tens of thousands of Americans die each year due to a lack of health insurance. Unsurprisingly, life expectancy is directly proportional to income in the United States, as evidenced by the fact that Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota has a life expectancy of 47 for men and 52 for women. This inequality continues unabated as pharmaceutical CEOs rake in unprecedented profits.

More than 250,000 Americans die each year due to medical errors. This is inextricably linked with the fact that hospitals prioritize profit-making over patient care. Consequently, administrators are forcing physicians, and residents in particular, to work extremely exploitative and unsafe hours. Obamacare, which should really be called the Unaffordable Care Act, caused premiums and deductibles to go up, and failed to address the problem of health care either being tied to one's job or to a fluctuating salary if the patient is an independent contractor.

Two thirds of all bankruptcies filed in the United States are medical bankruptcies, and over half a million American families file for bankruptcy each year as a result of medical bills they cannot pay.

The Empire, Trump And Intra-Ruling Class Conflict
Over the past few months President Trump has unilaterally by Tweet and telephone begun to dismantle the U.S. military's involvement in the Middle East. The irony is amazing, because in a general overarching narrative sense, this is what the marginalized antiwar movement has been trying to do for decades.

A factional dispute among U.S. foreign policy elites is ensuing over how to maintain the U.S. empire. This is a high stakes intra-ruling class struggle and neither side cares a fig about what's best for the American people or those beyond our borders. On the one hand are the neoliberal global capitalists who favor military intervention, covert operations, regime change, strengthening NATO, thrusting China into the enemy vacuum and re-igniting the Cold War with Russia. All of this is concealed behind lofty rhetoric about humanitarianism, protecting human rights, promoting democracy, fighting terrorism and American exceptionalism. Their mantra is Madeleine Albright's description of the United States as the world's "one indispensable nation."

Foremost is the fact that Trump's intra-elite enemies despise him not for being a neo-fascistic demagogue, a despicable human being devoid of a conscience, or for the brouhaha over Ukraine. Their animus is rooted in the conviction that Trump has been a foot dragging imperialist, an equivocal caretaker of empire, unreliable pull-the-trigger Commander-in-chief (e.g.Iran) and transparent truth-teller about the real motives behind U.S. foreign policy. These are his unforgivable sins and if he's impeached or denied the Oval Office by some other means, they will be real reasons.

One of Trump's most traitorous acts is that he's been consistent, at least rhetorically, in being opposed to U.S. troops being killed in "endless wars." One need not agree with his reasons to find merit in this worthy objective.

The Putin-Nazis Are Coming (Again)!
October 21st, 2019

So, it looks like that's it for America, folks. Putin has gone and done it again. He and his conspiracy of Putin-Nazis have "hacked," or "influenced," or "meddled in" our democracy. Unless Admiral Bill McRaven and his special ops cronies can ginny up a last-minute military coup, it's four more years of the Trumpian Reich, Russian soldiers patrolling the streets, martial law, concentration camps, gigantic banners with the faces of Trump and Putin hanging in the football stadiums, mandatory Sieg-heiling in the public schools, National Vodka-for-Breakfast Day, death's heads, babushkas, the whole nine yards.

We probably should have seen this coming.

That's right, as I'm sure you are aware by now, president-in-exile Hillary Clinton has discovered Putin's diabolical plot to steal the presidency from Elizabeth Warren, or Biden, or whichever establishment puppet makes it out of the Democratic primaries. Speaking to former Obama adviser and erstwhile partner at AKPD Message and Media David Plouffe, Clinton revealed how the godless Rooskies intend to subvert democracy this time:
