Are the 1930s Returning? and God is Different
Faith, Soren Kierkegaard said, is the death of the ego and the wonder of the infinite transcendent God. God is "total help for total need," said Karl Barth when the Nazis came to power in 1933. Children can be astonished. The excavator or humming top is just as marvelous as the starry sky. Children see things differently - without boring routine. Being astonished is hard for us adults. We think we understand everything. Faith is more interruption than custom.

The Generations Manifesto
Neoliberalism turns the world upside down so egoism, avarice, enrichment, and ruthlessness become virtues and solidarity, sharing and the social state become pre-modern threats to the right to absolute free property. Adjusting to the market is stylized as a survival necessity as the super-rich steal away from taxes and financing social necessities - as if all personal and corporate achievement did not depend on social spending.

repost - How just 60 words of legal language have blurred the line between war and peace.
In the hours after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, a lawyer sat down in front of a computer and started writing a legal justification for taking action against those responsible. The language that he drafted and that President George W. Bush signed into law - called the Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) - has at its heart one single sentence, 60 words long. Over the last decade, those 60 words have become the legal foundation for the "war on terror."

Low Taxes is an Act of Desperation
A low business tax can be counter-productive if a deadbeat infrastructure arises through lower state revenues. Ronald Reagan tested this in the US and the result was higher state debts through tax reductions, neoliberal insanity. Lowering business tax rates leads first to enormous budget holes. Employees will bear this burden at the end: through the social cuts sparked off by the budget imbalances and by the rise of mass taxes like the sales tax to offset this deficit.

A Letter to All Americans and to Real News Websites (labeled Fake News by the MSM).
It should seem obvious whoever controls access to ideas controls a people or nation to a large extent. It is natural for power-hungry operators to attempt to control and manipulate masses of peoples' perceptions (assumptions and thoughts). The mainstream media has been compromised for a very long time. Things have become truly Orwellian. We need a complete re-assessment of this last election cycle to understand how deep the Deceit State has corrupted so many institutions in this country—and especially the mainstream media and the Democratic Party.

The Corporate Media's Assault On Free Speech: An Interview With Jeffrey St. Clair
[CounterPunch Editor] Jeffrey St. Clair: Trump didn't just touch, he frontally embraced almost every third rail in American politics and not only survived but thrived on it, like some super-villain in a Dark Horse comic. It's quite remarkable really. The MSM media has been dying for years and Trump's campaign emphasized just how feeble and politically impotent the Times and the Post, as well as the network and cable news outlets have become, at least for an outlier candidate like Trump. By the way, Bernie Sanders also built his campaign in the face of first media indifference and then hostility. But Bernie wasn't felled by the media, but through the anti-Democratic structure of the Democratic Primaries and the internal sabotage of the DNC. The GOP primary system, by contrast, proved much more open and democratic than the Democrats's rigged system.

The Empire Has No Clothes: Trump's Class War Cabinet, The F-Word + The Coming Resistance
Speaking of WikiLeaks, the current preferred method for Democrats to avoid confronting their own responsibility for Trump is to blame mysterious Russian hackers for working with Julian Assange's organization to defame Hillary. They are currently trying to do to Trump with a vague and shady CIA report what Comey did to Hillary with a vague and shady FBI letter. But it's too late. The election is over and they are not about to hold another one or launch a coup, so what is the motivation here? A primary goal is for top Democrats to absolve themselves of fault for the terrible election outcome. Russia now serves as a convenient, CIA-certified version of "my dog ate my homework" for them in that regard: "It's not that we suck. It's the Kremlin's interference."

One of the world's largest salt lakes in danger
Sometimes in the hazy fog of crater lake in Oregon, I'll have flashbacks of my childhood in Iran in the early 80's. Summertime was spent on my grandmother's farm in fields, climbing walnut orchards, running after water buffalo and playing in streams. The feature of my summers at my grandmothers before war broke out between Iran and Iraq was Urumiyeh Lake. At the time, it was one of the largest salt lakes in the world bustling with agriculture and wildlife. In fact, I almost drowned in it once as a toddler. Luckily my uncle alerted my father from his boat that I was floating face down. Whew!
There's a long tradition of wine making in the region. I can still remember the aroma of the grape juice as its being trampled by feet of every size. A long tradition is to harvest fresh, young cucumbers and eat them in the lake after dipping them in the highly salted water. It would be an international catastrophe is this lake is allowed to die.

Hillary Clinton’s Cynical Race Appeals: The Revenge Of Neoliberal Identity Politics
[ This article written-published in February 2016 ]

Hillary Clinton, scraping the bottom of the barrel in her attempts to discredit Bernie Sanders, is now repeatedly making the case that democratic socialism is too narrowly tailored to accommodate a true rainbow coalition. Never mind that the rise of Bill Clinton's corporate-aligned Democratic Leadership Council served to marginalize the forces represented by Jesse Jackson's actual Rainbow Coalition within the party.

"If we broke up the big banks tomorrow, and I will if they deserve it... would that end racism?" Clinton asked a Nevada crowd last week. "No!" they roared back again and again as she criticized Bernie Sanders' purportedly single-issue agenda. "Would that end sexism? Would that end discrimination against the LGBT community? Would that make people feel more welcoming to immigrants overnight?"

"No!" "No!" and "No!" the shouts came, refracting across the funhouse mirrors of 20th century liberal politics.

The Clintons rose to power by marginalizing the left and dividing working people against each other. Little, it seems, has changed.

Neoliberalism's Epic Fail: Clinton's Loss Exposes Impotent Elitism of Liberalism
Of course, most of the "limousine liberals" who promised to leave America before the election didn't actually believe that Trump could win. It was an impossibility. Not in their wildest dreams could the racist, sexist, misogynistic and xenophobic buffoon defeat the most qualified and deserving presidential candidate in history — no less the first woman candidate.

And now, as we enter a terrifying and uncertain new period in American history, the last thing liberals should do is double down on the failed politics that allowed this tragedy to occur. The Clinton campaign tried to make this election all about Trump's hatefulness ("Love Trumps Hate") and his "basket of deplorables," while offering no real vision of progressive and populist change. And when those on the left raised legitimate concerns about Clinton's uninspiring message or her political baggage during and after the primaries, they were ridiculously labeled sexist or racist "bros" by establishment figures (even though some of Clinton's harshest progressive critics were in fact women and people of color). In a February essay, former Salon writer Daniel Denvir described this cynical political strategy in Salon as "peak neoliberalism, where a distorted version of identity politics is used to defend an oligarchy and a national security state, celebrating diversity in the management of exploitation and warfare."

The Democrats Do Their Job, Again
Old Blue Dogs Don't Learn New Tricks

Did you fall for the narrative that "hey one good silver lining to the 2016 elections is that the total ass-kicking the dismal neoliberal Democrats got will show them that they have no choice but to make themselves over as a progressive champion of working people against the wealthy Few"? What were you thinking? The new Democratic Party Senate Minority Leader isn't a liberal or progressive Democrat like Elizabeth Warren, Sherrod Brown, or Bernie Sanders. It's the arch-neoliberal Wall Street Charles Schumer (D-NY).

The House Minority Leader continues to be the decrepit, Botox-faced and dollar-drenched San Francisco pro-war corporate Democrat Nancy Pelosi, endorsed by the pathetic AFL-CIO over the longtime pro-union and heartland progressive Democrat Tim Ryan (D-OH) - a stark statement on the persistence of the old neoliberal regime atop the not-leftmost of the two major parties.

A Closer Look At 9/11 Legend Rudy Giuliani
Rudy Giuliani is considered a leading candidate for Secretary of State in the Trump Administration. Giuliani is actively campaigning for the position and could be named National Director of Intelligence if his appointment at State falls through. As the public waits to hear the verdict on these matters, a review of Giuliani's history and qualifications is in order. In particular, his actions on and before 9/11 should be carefully reviewed.

Giuliani led enforcement actions against the terrorist financing network BCCI and then joined a law firm that represented that terrorist network. In the years between the first WTC bombing and 9/11, Giuliani's administration ignored problems with the NYC fire department radios. Those faulty radios contributed to the deaths on 9/11. He and his staff had foreknowledge that the WTC Towers would fall when no one could have predicted such a thing. Giuliani was also responsible for the destruction of critical WTC evidence. He told people in the Ground Zero area that the air was safe to breathe, when it was not, in order to speed the removal of evidence at Ground Zero. And Giuliani has a family history of organized crime; he hired companies linked to organized crime to clean-up the WTC debris.
