Arctic is losing ice and heating up despite seasonal onset of 24-hour darkness—phenomena that break all previous records
TERF organization Womyn's Liberation Front (WOLF) stands to benefit from Donald Trump's Attorney General Jeff Sessions
A fairy tale....
The elitist corporate Democrats prefer to hand power over to a quasi or real fascist than to be a social democratic party of the people... Don't count on people slipping under the bus of history without a nasty fight... The fake-populist Trump's right-wing Big Business Agenda will get opposition from the "hard" Lefties... The election of Trump ought to signal the death-knell of the Clinton-Obama-Democratic Leadership Conference Neoliberal Ideology atop the Democratic Party.
A weekly 30 minute review of international news and opinion, recorded from a shortwave radio and the internet. With times, frequencies, and websites for listening at home. 3 files- Highest quality broadcast, regular broadcast, and slow-modem streaming. NHK World Radio Japan, Radio Havana Cuba, Spanish National Radio, and Sputnik Radio.
For those who opposed, and ignored Trumpism altogether, forms of denial have taken even deeper root. They have little interest in bringing the Trump voters into the fold, let alone idly waiting for a transition period to unfold.

This is an attempt to take the pulse of what and how progressives are thinking in the immediate aftermath of the presidential election. I examined the pieces appearing in two reputable left-liberal print journals each of which appeared right after the election - The Nation and In These Times. (To distinguish between them, I labeled The Nation's articles with a capital letter - A through F; with In These Times, I labeled them with Arabic numerals - 1 through 11.) I followed this format: Each article's title comes first, followed by the journal's explanatory sentence in italics; these two items share a single set of quotation marks. Then comes the author's name in parentheses. Finally comes my short summary of the article. In studying these articles, I was looking for four things: a) the degree to which the authors advocated thought, study and analysis before taking action, b) the interest of the authors in the mindset of the Trump voters, as opposed to that of the President-elect himself, c) the concern shown by these authors in the future of the Left in US electoral politics, specifically on the question of reforming the Democratic Party, versus trying to develop an alternative party to it, and d) which issues were discussed in the various articles. These questions are of concern to me (although I'm not a particular fan of electoral politics) and, I would think, to the Left in general. After an executive summary of my findings, I present brief summaries and analyses of the various articles. Then I conclude by presenting my thoughts and the reasoning behind them.

A "grab them by the pussy," racist, sexist white man has grabbed the White House, and the polite class is twirling in outrage like dervishes approaching oblivion.
This insult to the "dignity of the office" and the "nation" is more shocking than the action of the black man who took the Nobel Peace Prize and then proceeded to bomb seven countries. Liberal brains pickled in the formaldehyde of identity politics are unwilling to recognize in the politically incorrect catastrophe of Donald Trump's victory the blowback to the ferocious economic plunder by the neoliberal order, backed by decades of wanton and unchecked military aggressions.
The ideological focus of the Democratic Party and much of the American progressive left is today almost exclusively on race and gender issues. Until the elephant in the room - class - is honestly and comprehensively addressed, the disintegration of the U.S. political system and economic system will continue unabated.

The massive, continuing protests against President Trump, #NotMyPresident, are not a movement and will only benefit Trump. They are an emotional tactic devoid of strategy, and one that has made Trump stronger and stronger since it was first unleashed during the Republican primaries at the beginning of 2016. 'Trump is a racist narcissist pig, unfit to exist, much less govern,' or so the meme goes. But despite losing the popular vote he mat slammed Hillary and the Democrat Party. The GOP scaredy cats who were fleeing him en masse he actually rescued and rose them to control both houses of Congress. As of this writing the Trump protests have not abated, and now this smells of serious failure, the type of total and complete butt kicking that Republicans gave to the so-called Wisconsin Uprising. Almost six years after those massive protests against Governor Scott Walker over his disemboweling of the union movement in Wisconsin, after years of big protests with tens of thousands in the streets and a recall election attempt, the GOP is stronger than ever in the Badger State, with hegemonic control of the government in Uprising Central, Madison. Perhaps you missed this news, because the progressive Democrat pundits, The Nation and Mother Jones crowd, are absolutely skilled at ballyhoo and PR for the Blue Revolution, but completely unable to admit failure and analyze why the progressive Left keeps getting its heads handed to them on a plate.
This is a repost of the essay OUT IN THE OPEN by Ken Knabb that does not appear on any other news sources and is therefore reposted as commentary for benefit of INDYMEDIA readers. Knabb's piece touches on a few simple takeaways from recent election and holds a radical perspective in relation to them for those of us looking at a trans-populist agenda in the coming years. Short and to the point, so enjoy, comrades!

Deep trends destroyed the welfare and economic security of tens of millions and put them in a mindset where they want to destroy this system of authority. That is what caused Brexit and Trump. There should be introspection and self-examination. However there's a desire to say it was everybody else's fault - Jill Stein or Putin - and to blame everyone who didn't vote for Hillary. The Clintons were seen as corrupt royalty. No one wants to talk about corporate policies.

The Sandy Berger Caper Report
(37 minutes) ![]() Samuel Richard "Sandy" Berger (who died in December 2015) was National Security Advisor in the Clinton administration after having served as Arkansas governor Clinton's senior foreign policy advisor during the 1992 presidential campaign. Sandy Berger first met Bill Clinton in 1972; he was a member of the Quill and Dagger society (Cornell University's version of Yale's Skull and Bones) with Paul Wolfowitz and Stephen Hadley (currently a potential candidate for Secretary of Defense in the Trump administration). In 2002 and 2003, Berger visited the National Archives in Washington D.C. on several occasions and was 'allowed' to steal and destroy highly classified documents relating to the Clinton administration's national security and terrorism policies during the late 1990s. The 9/11 Commission, in progress during the time of Berger's document thefts, neglected to ask look in to the matter of his illegal activities and destruction of information directly relating to 9/11 and the Commission's own investigation. The Bush administration Justice Department also minimized the significance of Berger's illegal activities with classified information and refused to fully investigate him. Berger was stripped of his U.S. national security clearance for 3 years, given a $50,000 fine and two years' probation as 'wrist slap' punishment for his guilty misdemeanor plea. On May 17, 2007, Berger voluntarily relinquished his license to practice law as a result of the investigation; by giving up his license, Berger avoided cross-examination by the Bar Counsel regarding details of his thefts. A few National Archives and Records Administration employees were reportedly given written reprimands concerning errors that failed to prevent Berger's smuggling of top secret documents out of the Archives, but these reprimands were later erased from these NARA employees' personnel files.
After all the media hype, suddenly it turned out that Republican Donald Trump was elected. The racist, sexist, immigrant-bashing, woman-molesting Trump would be the next CEO of the United States and commander-in-chief of U.S. imperialism. In deep shock and disbelief, tens of millions asked, how could this happen? In Muslim, Latino, African American and immigrant families there was raw fear. Soon mass protests began, with many chanting "Not My President" (as if Democrat Clinton, a certified warmonger, would have been?). At the same time, racist incidents multiplied. It is urgently necessary to fight back, but the question is how? The answer depends on understanding what happened, and why. Trump certainly mobilized the hard-core racist vote, and better-off middle class voters. But what put him over the top was the vote of residents of dying small towns and white workers in the Rust Belt, who have seen their jobs destroyed and cities devastated. The fact is that with their economic policies, the Democrats pushed millions of workers into the arms of Trump. What is urgently needed is to break from the Democrats, Republicans and all capitalist parties and build a class-struggle workers party. Such a party would fight for a program of mass workers action against the deportations, for workers defense guards against racist attacks, and to oppose the imperialist war drive in a struggle leading to workers revolution.
as we are aware, multiple posts are on the Newswire this week concerning the election results and consequent demonstrations nationwide.
Most curious of all though about the demonstrations here in Portland, is that this city has a history of being known for its anti-globalization sentiment. And at least a sidelong 'connection' and solidarity with the Battle in Seattle 1999. Transnational corporate trade agreements. Which Trump has for many years (long before his 2015-2016 presidential campaign) spoken out against and outlined in detail why these agreements are destructive. NAFTA, TPP are now (for real) slated for the trashbin ![]() Are class issues, and the fight against globalization no longer a strategy? Have the anti-President-Elect demonstrators been brainwashed by the corporate mass media's and Wall Street's 2016 assault against Trump?
Leon Russell has died in his sleep at age 74.
He was a superbly talented songwriter, pianist, guitarist and bandleader who is widely known for his 1970s collaborations with English popular musicians, and also for his role with other key artists in creating the 'Tulsa sound' which became known from the late 1950s era onward. In 1969 he started the Shelter Records label with producer Denny Cordell. Shelter had a recording studio in a converted church and adjoining houses for artists working at the studio and is also known for releasing "Duppy Conqueror", the first American single by reggae artist Bob Marley. Russell was an amazingly proficient player who created and performed music with profoundly deep feeling, high energy and rambunctious joy. He was one of a kind and will be remembered and treasured forever. ![]()
The Democratic Party establishment that has been blocking any attempts at fundamental change his been thoroughly discredited. The new Republican President is a raging lunatic, who is hated by his own party establishment and is about to implement some mind-bogglingly bad policies. It's a time of crisis, but also one of opportunity.
Powerful and Peaceful resistance! What can we learn and put into practice, from what worked for early progressives and classic Democrats? What worked in the 1960s, and what mistakes did we make? What new creative ideas can we use to resist?

This election is a repudiation of the establishment which means the wisdom of pundits, experts, and elites has been proven hollow...Trump won because of his appeals to racism and sexism and his vicious misogynistic lies about Hillary Clinton...There is a good argument to be made that the media is responsible for creating Trump in the first place. But the press also thoroughly failed the country by distorting reality...The left will be doomed if it does not rethink its practices.

You are confronting the single great mystery of 2016. The American white-collar class just spent the year rallying around a super-competent professional (who really wasn't all that competent) and either insulting or silencing everyone who didn't accept their assessment. And then they lost. The even larger problem is that there is a kind of chronic complacency that has been rotting American liberalism for years, a hubris that tells Democrats they need do nothing different, they need deliver nothing really to anyone - except their friends on the Google jet and those nice people at Goldman. The rest of us are treated as though we have nowhere else to go and no role to play except to vote enthusiastically on the grounds that these Democrats are the "last thing standing" between us and the end of the world. It is a liberalism of the rich, it has failed the middle class, and now it has failed on its own terms of electability. __________ For more must-reads by Thomas Frank with related topic pieces, *see below* this article's text here on Portland Indymedia for posted links. Canada and Mexico agreed Thursday to US President-elect Donald Trump's demand to have a fresh look at their tripartite 22-year-old free trade pact, fearing they could be shut out of the US market.
The 1994 trade pact became a source of friction with America's neighbors during the campaign when Trump called NAFTA the worst trade deal the United States has ever signed.
UAW President Dennis Williams said Thursday the union hoped to work with the incoming President-elect Donald Trump to change, fix or dismantle the North American Free Trade Agreement.
"I am prepared to sit down and talk to him about trade. NAFTA is a problem. It is a huge problem to the American people," Williams said today in Detroit.

Donald Trump will be sworn in, in 70 days. stop with the identity politics. stop the race baiting. I think a lot of the nationwide protests (including the 'chosen' ones here in Portland, Oregon with its "Little Beirut" [name dubbed by elder Bush] background) are instigated by provocateurs. Prove me wrong about the ^ above, simply by providing your local background as an activist in organizing and participating in Portland's protests starting yesterday. i.e. how the anti-President-Elect 'movement' organically emerged right here in this community. Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) told labor leaders Thursday that the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the trade deal at the center of President Obama's "pivot" to strengthen ties with key Asian allies, will not be ratified by Congress.

Answer the question.
The liberal elite own the Progressive Movement.
"What gets lost in all this faux movement politics," said the University of Wisconsin's Patrick Barrett, "is any real challenge to the growing imbalance of social, political and economic power. Quite the contrary, the ultimate impact of their actions is to reproduce if not aggravate that imbalance. What we've got here is a deeply symbiotic relationship between a pseudo-movement that derives its raison d'etre and financial vitality from a vilification of the right, which it has helped to create and without which it would have no reason for existence. Indeed, the more extreme the right becomes, the better it is for them, since they live off of fear-mongering. To oppose the right in a meaningful sense would put them out of business. That isn't to say that there is nothing to be feared in the right or that some of these folks don't think they're fighting the good fight, but rather that the two work in tandem, much like a good-cop-bad-cop team. As the right becomes ever more extreme, this Democratic Party cum non-profit industrial complex moves further and further to the right itself, thereby giving the Republicans and their ilk ever greater leash and making it easier to frighten the "progressive" masses."
