Weeks After Mass Shooting, Coos County Votes To Nullify Gun Control Laws
If the sheriff of Coos County, Oregon thinks any state or federal gun control law violates his 2nd Amendment right, he doesn't have to enforce it, according to an ordinance passed this week by county voters.

Sixty-one percent of voters in rural Coos County voted to pass the "2nd Amendment Preservation Ordinance," which also prohibits local enforcement of Oregon's new background check law. That law requires universal background checks for gun purchases in the state — even for private sales.

Spike Lee's 'Chi-Raq': Lysistrata With Chicago Gang Violence Backdrop
Chi-Raq (2015)
 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4594834/

Chi-Raq is an upcoming film directed by Spike Lee and written by Lee and Kevin Willmott. Set in Chicago, the film is described as a satire and to have as a subject gang violence prevalent in some neighborhoods on the city's south side, particularly, Englewood.

The film is based on Lysistrata, a classical Greek comedy by Aristophanes.

The film's title, a portmanteau of "Chicago" and "Iraq,", has caused some controversy. Members of the City council and city residents have requested that Lee change the name of the film, going as far as to threaten the tax credits that the film maker will receive from the city.

Colion Noir calls out The Huffington Post for their recent factually inaccurate, deliberately inflammatory anti-NRA hit piece. The article, which can be read here ( https://archive.is/CuYIO) , claims Wayne LaPierre's video "How To Stop Violent Crime" inaccurately identifies De'Eris Brown, a thug who murdered a 9-year-old girl, and uses this to promote an "NRA is racist" narrative.

Not only was this claim patently false, but it exposed writer Mike Weisser's own bigotry and bias in the process.

There is a saying haunting London stock exchange: What is the difference between the euro and the dollar? Answer: If you see someone kicking a cash-box down the road, you know he is wearing steel caps. Looking at their bread boxes however, most workers self-evidently understand that something is fundamentally wrong with their central banks - and it is not just a clerical error, it is the papal error of financial policy, namely that the political overstretch of a paper tiger ideology is allowed to rip apart the self-proclaimed currency of currencies.

The Importance Of The Official 9/11 Myth
The people who actually committed the crimes of September 11th didn't intend to just hijack planes and take down the buildings—they intended to blame others. To accomplish that plan the real criminals needed to create a false account of what happened and undoubtedly that need was considered well in advance. In this light, the official reports can be seen to provide a link between the "blaming others" part of the crimes and the physical parts.

Pushing the concept of "Islamic Terrorism" was the beginning of the effort to blame others, although the exact 9/11 plan might not have been worked out at the time. This concept was largely a conversion of the existing Soviet threat, which by 1989 was rapidly losing its ability to frighten the public, into something that would serve more current policy needs. Paul Bremer and Brian Jenkins were at the forefront of this conversion of the Soviet threat into the threat of Islamic terrorism. Both Bremer and Jenkins were also intimately connected to the events at the World Trade Center.

"This is, unfortunately, the war of the future," Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said. "The Osama bin Laden organization has basically declared war on Americans and has made very clear that these are all Americans, anywhere."

In retrospect, it is surprising that this was the first reference to Al Qaeda in the New York Times, coming only three years before 9/11. More surprising is that The Washington Post did not report on Al Qaeda until June 1999, and its reporting was highly speculative about the power behind this new threat.

Who Will Fight The Next War?
Cruising a Walmart in Clayton County, Georgia, with Sergeant Russell Haney of US Army recruiting, it would be easy to think most Americans are aching to serve Uncle Sam. Almost every teenager or 20-something he hails, in his cheery Tennessee drawl, amid the mounds of plastic buckets and cut-price tortilla chips, appears tempted by his offer.

I find it remarkable," says the commander of army recruiting, Major-General Jeffrey Snow. "That we have been in two protracted land campaigns and we have an American public that thinks very highly of the military, yet the vast majority has lost touch with it. Less than 1% of Americans are willing and able to serve."

In 1990, 40% of young Americans had at least one parent who had served in the forces; by 2014, only 16% had, and the measure continues to fall. Among American leaders, the decline is similarly pronounced. In 1981, 64% of congressmen were veterans; now around 18% are.

During the Korean war, around 70% of draft-age American men served in the armed forces; during Vietnam, the unpopularity of the conflict and ease of draft-dodging ensured that only 43% did. These days, even if every young American wanted to join up, less than 30% would be eligible to. Of the starting 21m, around 9.5m would fail a rudimentary academic qualification, either because they had dropped out of high school or, typically, because most young Americans cannot do tricky sums without a calculator. Of the remainder, 7m would be disqualified because they are too fat, or have a criminal record, or tattoos on their hands or faces. According to Sergeant Haney, about half the high-school students in Clayton County are inked somewhere or other; according to his boss, Lieutenant-Colonel Tony Parilli, a bigger problem is simply that "America is obese."

Pew Study: U.S. Firearm Homicides Down 50% Since 1990s While Gun Ownership Up 60 Percent
 http://postimg.org/image/yz37kl8gr/

Several mass shootings this year have brought renewed attention to the issue of gun violence in America, and President Obama has again called for Congress to change the nation's gun laws.

But the increased spotlight on guns does not reflect the overall gun violence trend in the country. Although most Americans tend to think the number of gun crimes has risen, the U.S. gun homicide rate has actually stabilized somewhat in recent years, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of death certificate data collected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

From 1993 to 2013, the number of firearm deaths per 100,000 persons has declined from 7.0 to 3.6.

Also during the period 1994 — 2015, gun ownership in the U.S. has increased by more than 60 percent, from 192 million to over 315 million firearms.

Gallup Poll: NRA More Popular Than Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama
A new poll released by Gallup on Thursday shows that the National Rifle Association, or NRA, is more popular than Hillary Clinton or President Barack Obama.

According to the poll, 58 percent of Americans have a favorable view of the gun rights organization, while only 35 percent have an unfavorable opinion of the group.

In contrast, Obama's most recent presidential approval rating is 46 percent. A majority of Americans, 50 percent, disapproves of the job he's doing as president. A NBC/WSJ poll released earlier this week shows similar numbers for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. That poll found that 39 percent of voters have a positive view of Clinton, while 48 percent view her negatively.

The oldest civil rights organization in America, the NRA was formed by former Union soldiers in New York in 1871 to help improve marksmanship among the general public. As it grew, the NRA set up local charters throughout the South in order to train African-Americans to better protect themselves from racist groups like the Ku Klux Klan.

Vancouver BC To Study Licensing Bicyclists
Vancouver councillor Melissa De Genova thinks it is time to make cyclists get a licence.

Following a dust-up between a pregnant woman and a cyclist in Kitsilano over the Thanksgiving weekend, De Genova on Sunday said it is time to move toward a bicycle licensing program.

De Genova said requiring people to get a licence to ride would also help others identify the bike rider if a problem arises.

HUB spokesman Colin Stein said other places around the world have tried a licensing system but it ultimately failed.

"There have been many efforts around the world to introduce licensing and from what I understand they don't work," he said. "It is very difficult to sustain financially."

Stein thinks a licensing system could turn into a bureaucratic nightmare, tough to maintain and enforce without huge amounts of money put in to keep it afloat.

"What is the ultimate goal?" he asked.
