Election 2012: Stewart Alexander Defends Public Workforce; Defend the US Postal Service
The United States Postal Service is looking at turning back services and potentially laying off 80,000 workers due to a manufactured budget shortfall. This manufactured budget shortfall will also result in the closure of 250 mail processing centers and 3,700 post offices, mostly in poor and rural areas. The Socialist Party USA ticket of Stewart Alexander and Alex Mendoza say that this is part of a larger attack upon the working class for the benefit of the wealthiest 1%.

The Ethics of Eating Meat
First, you accept the biological reality that death begets life on this planet and that all life (including us!) is really just solar energy temporarily stored in an impermanent form. Second, you combine this realization with that cherished human trait of compassion and choose ethically raised food, vegetable, grain and/or meat. And third, you give thanks.

U.S./SINALOA PACT RESULTS IN ESCALATION OF INSANELY VIOLENT DRUG WARS
while many elected leaders of other american nations are questioning the u.s.-backed war on drugs, and at least open to a dialogue about legalization, obama continues to escalate the violence and even shut down legal, voter-approved medical marijuana clinics.

it turns out that he is doing so in order to help out his partners in the sinaloa drug cartel, who have been receiving arms from u.s. intelligence agencies since at least 2006.

today marks the 4th anniversary in the event that began this new, ultr-violent era of the u.s.drugwar: the assasination of edgar guzman lopez, the son of "el chapo," guzman loera, head of the sinaloa cartel, listed by forbes magazine as the 40th most powerful man on earth.

When most people think of Flagstaff, they may think of college (NAU), or the wonderful hot cup of vegan hot chocolate at Macys. But when we think of Flagstaff, we think of the sacred San Francisco Peaks and the community of resistance to save the beautiful mountains. The campaign to save the San Francisco Peaks has been going on for years, but it has been increasingly active the past year. Right now, the legal campaign to save the peaks is all tied up in the courts, but that hasn't stopped the passion of the community who decided to take action into their own hands and lock down in an act of civil disobedience.

Occupy Minneapolis targeted by police offering drugs, for study
This is a 30 minute piece of video journalism from someone affiliated with Occupy Minneapolis documenting a pattern of police officers picking up troubled people near the downtown plaza where Occupy meets, interviewing them, then actually offering them illicit drugs along with food, and then dropping them off again downtown.
Sometimes postings on the internet referring to MK Ultra, or stories about the authorities stalking them... take on a paranoid tone that make them easy to discount. I personally am somewhat convinced by this video due to the photo evidence and credible tone of the narration.
Hopefully a newspaper or civil rights attorney can follow up with a FOIA about this program

Oil and World Agriculture
If the fertilizers, partial irrigation [in part provided by oil energy], and pesticides were withdrawn, corn yields, for example, would drop from 130 bushels per acre to about 30 bushels.

However, this is assuming legumes can also be used to provide a little nitrogen. Without the use of legumes, yields would decline to about 16 bushels per acre. This is about the corn yield in developing countries.

"In Lybia now the truth is coming out"
Irish free-lance journalist Lizzie Phelan reverts to her recent interview by New York Times reporter Robert Mackey. In this article, she elaborates in greater detail on the three themes discussed in the interview. She argues that, though labeled as "activists" and "firebrands", those journalists who express views going against the current when it comes to countries which are in NATO's firing line are, objectively, in a better position to provide reliable information than their mainstream media counterparts. If today some Western journalists can afford to be more evenhanded about Libya, it is only because the military objectives have already been achieved. The grotesque coverage of the situation in Syria by the Western media is further confirmation of this. Grasping a complex reality does not depend on the amount of information accumulated in favor of any one side, but on the diversity of informed poins of view reflecting a given situation. As long as the political and economic conditions of such a multiplicity of views are not met, tomorrow, as yesterday, the first casualty of war will always be truth.

May Day, to many of us, has always been a day to celebrate the history of working class resistance, and to express our own resistance in the ongoing class war. That's why I chose to go to the "unpermitted" march to start out my MayDay this year. The march, like every one I've gone, started out as a peaceful, non-violent action as we left Waterfront Park around noon. We wanted to make a point that we don't need any "permit" to struggle for social justice, especially from our oppressors.
