The US faces a revenue crisis and a war spending crisis. The Congress, a millionaires' club, isn't about upholding the constitution but maintaining plutocracy and crony capitalism. Each loaded coal car would lose up to 500 pounds of coal dust across Washington Seeing a waning domestic market for their poisonous product, Big Coal has set its sights on the Asian market, with Washington and Oregon set to be the transfer and staging areas for this environmentally disastrous scheme. Environmentalists should do whatever must be done to thwart vast coal exports from being moved across Washington to the tune of (12) mile-long trains a day before being put on ships docked on the lower reaches of the scenic Columbia River for its trip to Asia. Coal export from Washington and Oregon, two of the cleanest states in the nation, should never be permitted.

Hypochondria in Occupy
As many of you know, journalist Chris Hedges recently posted his critique of the Black Bloc and Anarchist involvement in the Occupy Wall Street movement in his article titled "The Cancer In Occupy". Using the examples of Derrick Jensen and John Zerzan as intellectual leaders, Hedges attempts to degrade Anarchists to common stereotypes of violent, unorganized, hyper-masculine criminals, seeking senseless destruction over social change. Hedges goes on to describe how Black Bloc Anarchists are a 'cancer' in the OWS movement and how they should no longer have involvement within it.

Canada: Stop the planned tar sands wolf killings
If Alberta Canada's tar sands oil fields are fully developed, an area of boreal rainforest the size of Florida will be eviscerated, leaving in its wake only giant ponds of toxic wastewater.

To make up for the fact that extracting tar sands oil is threatening caribou herds by destroying vast swaths of rainforest habitat in Alberta, the Canadian government has called for strychnine poisoning and aerial shooting of thousands of wolves in areas of tar sands mining.

This plan is both cruel and deeply misguided.

Occupy Was A Set Of Tactics That Worked Amazingly Well, But...
The occupy movement surprised me by becoming a great success, even though I initially had no expectation of that. I thought it was insane to pitch tents in big cities, and to conduct "General Assemblies" to make decisions by consensus, with goofy "twinkling," etc. I think I was right about it being insane, but nevertheless it was extremely effective. On the other hand, I doubt that these tactics will again be used often, simply because they are far too labor intensive. Even if the "bang for the buck" is worth the effort, there simply are practical limits on the amount of effort people can afford to invest.

Oregon Department of State Lands Office, 775 Summer Street, Salem!
Will you be our valentine?

Cascadia Forest Defenders are heading to Salem on the 14th to confront the State Land Board--Governor Kitzhaber, Secretary of State Kate Brown, and Treasurer Ted Wheeler-- about their direct hand in the destruction of Oregon's public forests.

In October, Governor Kitzhaber approved a plan that will nearly double the annual clear cut in the Elliott Rainforest, starting this year. On the 14th, the first land board meeting of 2012, the Governor will also approve the privatization of over 1,000 acres of public forest land in Southern Oregon. Privatization will leave the fate of sensitive wildlife in the hands of ravenous timber barons.
