For Immediate Release: Occupy Oakland Official Press Release
Occupy Oakland Media Team responds to brutal early morning police raid involving armored vehicles, tear gas, and bean bag bullets.
Citizens of the Bay Area will be meeting this afternoon in response to the paramilitary-style attack on Occupy Oakland early this morning. The police raid resulted in the arrests of over 75 non-violent protesters, organizing to fight issues such as wealth disparity, corporate and government corruption, and the destruction of vital benefits and social services.

Issues of violence, sanitation, and fire hazards were used as a pretext to evict Occupy Oakland from the camp. On Monday, the protesters invited City of Oakland officials to voice their concerns at the General Assembly. Instead, the city spent hundreds of thousands--if not millions--of taxpayer dollars to evict peaceful protesters. Over a dozen local police departments participated in this egregious show of force. Armored vehicles, riot gear, tear gas, and bean bag bullets were deployed against unarmed U.S. citizens.

Oct 17th Student Loan Rally - Audio and Photos
Here is a 15 minute audio piece and a few photos from the Oct. 17th Student Rally at 5th and Main. About 75 people gathered. One person had a megaphone and people took turns describing their own experience. People described their search for jobs, how much money they owe, how the level of debt is going up even as they make some payment and the general sentiment that they were unlikely to ever be able to pay off their student loans. The point was also made that unlike other loans, student loans are not included in a bankruptcy filing.

This means that mind numbed Zombies who had been doped into a stupor watching CNN-NBC-BBC-CBS, which are all propaganda outlets for the criminal enterprise known as the CIA-MOSSAD-MI6, will be cruelly thrust into the land of the living.

(Hella) Occupy Oakland, large camp being broken up
in the early morning of Oct 25, the Occupy Oakland camp in Frank Ogawa Plaza (renamed Oscar Grant plaza) is being dispersed by police. They got their start a few days after Portland's, and grew to a couple hundred tents, with a similarly styled general assembly.

At least 40 were arrested so far, but there wasn't much battery involved (going by early reports). The city has stopped the transit stops near downtown. It's a developing situation.

Occupiers Have to Convince the Other 99 Percent
The occupation movement's greatest challenge will be overcoming the deep distrust of white liberals by the poor and the working class, especially people of color. Marginalized people of color have been organizing, protesting and suffering for years with little help or even acknowledgment from the white liberal class. With some justification, those who live in these marginalized communities often view this movement as one dominated by white sons and daughters of the middle class who began to decry police abuse and the lack of economic opportunities only after they and their families were affected. This distrust is not the fault of the movement, which has instituted measures within its decision-making process to make sure marginalized voices are heard before white males. It is the fault of a bankrupt liberal class that for decades has abandoned the core issue of economic justice for the poor and the working class and busied itself with the vain and self-referential pursuits of multiculturalism and identity politics.

The Politics of Occupation
Walking through the camp of Occupy Portland, it is hard to believe it has only been a few days since it began. The transformation of the space is nothing short of miraculous: from a few scattered tents, some cardboard signs, and a tarp or two, a miniature city has arisen, crafted with the energy, creativity, and good intentions of us all. Together, we are learning first-hand the difficulties, frustrations, and joys of democracy and of the experience of power.

Why the Far Right “Supports” the Occupy Movement
Should Occupiers be concerned that the Nazi Party has given official "support" to the Occupy Movement? Or be worried that other far-right groups — including sections of the Tea Party — are "pro occupy?" Absolutely. These groups have no place in an anti-corporate, pro-worker movement. The Occupy Movement's greatest strength — its broad appeal — can quickly become an exploitable weakness, and the far right smells blood.

Luckily, expelling the right wing isn't so difficult once you understand their motives and strategy. Right-wing populism's greatest strength is also the vague nature of their demands, which intend to connect with broad sections of the population. However, their demands are vague not because they are a fledgling movement — like Occupy — but because they strategically try to conceal their radically right-wing goals.

Occupy Sydney and Occupy Melbourne brutally shut down
Viv Miley, a participant in Occupy Sydney, told *Green Left Weekly* the police moved in and told people they had to move immediately or would be arrested. He said groups of occupiers linked arms and began chanting, before police began violently dragging people off...

A rally had already been called in Martin Place for next Saturday, October 29 in support of the call for global rallies by the Occupy movement in support of a Robin Hood < http://robinhoodtax.org/> tax on global financial institutions. Miley said: "The occupation showed there is a lot of hope and inspiration by
the Occupy Wall Street movement and the movement in Spain. It has captured
people's imagination.

"We had to continue despite police harassment from the start, when they made
us removes tents and sleep on the ground on the first night.

"That demonstrates this non-violent protest was determined to continue despite the odds - and we will find ways to continue this movement against corporate power despite the eviction."

When I first wrote in defense of the Occupy Wall Street protests a couple of weeks ago, I suggested that much of the scorn then being expressed by many progressives was ¡°grounded in the belief that the only valid form of political activism is support for Democratic Party candidates.¡± Since then, even the most establishment Democrats have fundamentally changed how they talk about the protests ¡ª from condescension and hostility to respect and even support ¡ª and The New York Times today makes clear one significant factor accounting for this change:
