Radical Deconstruction of Apathy (RDA) Full Session, and VBC Fund Raiser!
Three workshops all in one day! Each one surveys the concepts of connection and community seeking which is the medicine that will help learn about and heal from any apathetic inclinations we may have. In these playshops, we will stroll the landscape of essential engagement of relationship from self, to others, to community in order to nourish our hearts and open our eyes to the world of being fully alive. Cops, Pigs, Murderers! (A Cascadia Convergence Network Communiqué)
Peeps in the Streets About fifty community members angered at the ongoing murders by Portland Police gathered at the SE 47th and Burnside police precinct. On Monday March 22 at Hoyt Arboretum, yet another person was killed by the Portland police. The killing comes in wake of the recent homicide of Aaron Campbell who was shot in back multiple times at his door step by officer Ronald Frashour on January 28 2010. The enraged dissenters sent a clear message that the recent swell of police violence in the city will not be tolerated any longer. Infuriated the community members blocked traffic as they marched and tossed newspaper receptacles and dumpsters in to the streets.

Late Morning Press Release
There has been another press release, saying that the man police shot had a "razor knife". Some in Portland (and there was at least one post on here to the effect) will say that the shooting was "justified". We as a community need to push the conversations about why some people can deescalate situations like this and that because cops are armed, their response is to shoot.

"Campaign against the Weak"
Social justice, solidarity and sharing open doors. We have to do some rethinking. A few have vast wealth while many have little. The state has made itself poor and private budgets rich. The social state does not cause the problems that efficient workers are lacking one one side and jobs are lacking for many on the other side.

Portland police murder
When word spread that the Portland police had just shot a man to death at the Hoyt Arboretum, we knew we had to make a choice: to allow ourselves to be human, or to participate in our own murders, to hide away in sleep and the unfolding of a routine that ends, for all of us, in death. It's a choice that has been made for us so many times before: by the media, by community leaders, professional activists, bosses, teachers, parents, friends who do not push us to confront this fear with them. We are killing ourselves with so much swallowed rage.

Sea Lion Defenders Set Up Mobile Monitoring Station at Bonneville Dam
Six sea lions have already died at the hands of the ODFW this year, added to the tremendous death toll from the past two years. This is the reality and the fallout from the government's War on Nature that is taking place up at Bonneville dam. Aside from the state-sanctioned murders, inside sources tell us that the death toll associated with illegal vigilante killings has skyrocketed since the lethal removal program began - apparently angry fishermen feel it's open season now that the government has given its tacit wink and nod to the killing of protected marine mammals. Sea lion defenders are tired of the killings, tired of government lies and cover-ups, and tired of excuses for negligence and cruelty. So last week, the Sea Lion Defense Brigade launched Sea Wolf One, a mobile monitoring station set up to keep an eye on the Columbia river sea lions and their would-be nemeses.

Howard Beale died for your sins: the pitfalls of anticapitalism
Howard Beale is the fictional protagonist of Paddy Chayevsky's 1979 drama, Network. In this film, the Beale character, played by Peter Finch, is a network news anchorman who is slated to be retired by his network due to failing ratings. In the midst of a midlife crisis, Beale, his tv career coming to an end, which was the only focus of his life's energies, is plunged into a state of despondency. Having a nervous breakdown, he issues a surprise announcement in the middle of the news show that he will be closing his next and final appearance as anchorman by blowing his brains out on national television. His boss at the tv network decides that he is obviously deranged and should be yanked from the air, but by a curious chain of circumstances, the network decides instead to keep him on and he soon becomes annointed as "Howard Beale, the Mad Prophet of the Airwaves, denouncing the lies and hypocrisies of our times." All goes well for Beale in his new role as the host of a top-rated new prime time tv show with a subversive, anticorporate and antiestablishment message, for a time...
