Social State as Home
Society cannot afford to dismantle the social state. The social state guarantees inner peace. The strength of a people is measured by the well-being of the weak, those not born with a silver spoon. Solidarity, social justice and equal opportunities are the keywords of the social state; they open doors.

lessons from the past 10.03.2010 01:24
Native History which gets lost
The point of sharing this is that the past teaches us things which are eternally relevant. What we call "primitive" we do always at our own detriment. For what its worth, simplicity is sometimes more powerful and can over come the complicated. What we are taught to value, we are taught to value it like an ideology. When the planet changes around us by our own "technology" we cherish, the lesson we least want to hear is that it is our belief in the technology, not the object itself which brings harm.

5 More Sea Lions Die Today
According to ODFW spokesman Rick Hargrave, seven sea lions were trapped today. Of those, five were allegedly on the government hit list - the list of animals who have been "observed eating at least one salmon." As a result, according to Hargrave, all five were to be put to death some time today. We were unable to confirm with him when the event took place - he said he "wouldn't know till the end of the day." At the end of the day, of course, he was unavailable. He was clear, however, that the sea lions would be killed. Rick Hargrave may be contacted by calling (503) 947-6020 or faxing (971) 673-6070.

The Fight to Save Public Education
March 4 was historic. It will be remembered as the day that people began to fight back against the destruction of public education. The student and teacher led offensive took place in cities across the country; teachers, students and school workers demonstrated and marched, showcasing the aggressive methods of the struggle. San Francisco led the way with the biggest numbers. As many as 15,000 people, mostly students, teachers and social service workers attended a Civic Center rally organized by the three teachers unions and the San Francisco Labor Council.

This can only be the beginning. The war on public education has been carefully planned for years, orchestrated by corporate interests and implemented by Republicans and Democrats alike.

Alternatives to Capitalism
Neoliberalism, financial market-driven capitalism, intensifies the crises. However the root of evil lies in the developmental laws of capitalism. Neoliberalism is based on double standards and double speak where CEOs are job creators, workers are cost-factors and Bernanke sleeps through the $8.3 trillion housing bubble. The march into new feudalism can be reversed.
