The Political "Middle" Moves to the Right
"The political-social structural conditions for right-wing extremism, racism and nationalism are still largely unconsidered. A mono-causal reduction of problems to their constitutional, youthful or violent aspects narrows the perspective to visible phenomena and thus prevents analytical knowledge about the causes of right-wing extremism." "Migrants and the Mass Media" by Christoph Butterwegge is available on http://www.mbtranslations.com.

Why do we protest?
Some activists are beginning to complain that all these protests are stupid and inconsequential. These activists have the wrong perspective of what is happening on the planet. There is not a series of protests going on...there is an on-going resistance to a planned takeover of all people, all cultures, all natural resources, destruction of the natural world, and an implantation of fear.

A U.S. soldier was slightly wounded when the vehicle in which he was traveling hit a mine in troubled eastern Afghanistan, a military spokesman said Friday. Article also has some surprising denials: "There have been no rocket attacks on coalition forces for at least the last 48 hours," he said. Around 500 to 1,000 U.S. soldiers are based in several locations at Khost.

Reality Check: This Won't Be Gulf War Redux
Skeptics warn us that we can't assume the next war with Saddam Hussein will be as easy as the last — especially since this time we are after his head, not the liberation of Kuwait. True, there is an array of strategic and tactical differences from a decade ago, but I'm not sure that any of the new realities presage a more difficult task than last time. The challenge is now clearer, more moral — and more suited to our own unique character and strengths.

The Right-wing in the Middle
"Extremist right-wing propaganda and racist attacks thrive in a social climate marked by horror visions about the demographic change and conflicts over forms of immigration and cooperative intellectual life. The ethnicizing of social relations and economic conflicts threatens in the debates.. It is high time that the middle becomes aware and resists the right-wing danger."
