DeMuth Charged with "Animal Enterprise Terrorism," But Could Be Released Next Week
Thursday morning, Minneapolis grand jury resister Scott DeMuth was charged with conspiracy to commit animal enterprise terrorism in Davenport, Iowa federal court. He is currently being held in the disciplinary block at the Muscatine County Jail after he was found to be in civil contempt of court for refusing to cooperate with the grand jury that convened in Davenport on Tuesday. Because the civil contempt charge was later dropped, on Friday he attended a hearing to decide on his possible release on unsecured bond; a final decision has not yet been made by

Obama's Fradulent "Jobs Summit"
If the President had offered us a job summit a year ago, he might have been taken seriously. Now, however, after more than six million jobs have been lost — and with the bottom still falling — Obama's brain storming get-together can only be treated with contempt, if not outrage.

What is needed is immediate action, not idle chatter. We already know what works: federal stimulus money channeled directly towards job creation, a public works campaign to help rebuild the U.S. crumbling infrastructure, full funding for education and social services, and more.

burr wonders the morality of it all 20.11.2009 14:46
This is Nuts
Sure we all know that ACORN is against the big bad right wing g'ment , the "man" the opressor of the masses...but lets get real, morally speaking, for a few minutes. Moral folk do not get caught up in the sort of stuff the right has caught ACORN in. They do not play those games for 'the man' or to advance the end of 'the man.' As it has of been put by the confidence criminals:" you can't con an honest man." This relates to how those scams rely on the human weaknesses of the victim to get something undeservedly, illegally, immorally. What is the difference from that for the ACORN workers who have gladly gone along with this up-front "underage international prostitution ring to finance my campaign" sting? How do so many agents fighting the noble fight for truth dignity and equality and an end to oppression......end up going along?

Oh, you might say its not ACORN, its just the employees as incividual persons and it should not be taken as a reflection.....

Oh really. "My husband and my kids might burn crosses in that black mans yard, and they might all proudly paste KKK stickers on their truck windows. But that should not say anything about me, a mother, nor about my childrearing practices and how I ....."
Oh really

The ends justifies the ends? well, don't some also remember that the means ARE the ends? Don't some scoff at the wisecrack that "we burned the village to save the village" as well?

My enemies enemy is my friend? Pimps are against the legal system. The Cartels to the south are against civilized laws, courts, imprisonment, police, the established order....does that mean we should take them as allies in the strugle for life liberty and dignity?

The Bush Justice Department had sought a 30 year sentence. www.lynnestewart.org/

Who Were the Teabagging Protesters downtown last night?!
Al Gore calls out the astroturf protesters, who numbered in the hundreds, it seemed, outside Keller Auditorium and in the park just west of it.

I have never seen a fabri-protest before, but this was wild, complete with a band playing supposed Patriotic music (heard some tune about "remember the twin towers"...not my idea of patriotism!) on a bandstage, and vendors selling AFP and Teabagger T-shirts.

Can we find out who poured the money into the staging of protests of Al Gore and his message about Global Warming, and perhaps use the courts to do so?

This is a stain on Portland that should not resurface!!

Two Davenport Grand Jury Resisters Jailed for Contempt
The federal government's Green Scare campaign took another depressing turn Tuesday morning as a federal district judge in Iowa ordered the detainment of Twin Cities activists Scott DeMuth and Carrie Feldman at a contempt hearing. As previously reported, DeMuth and Feldman were subpoenaed to a grand jury in Davenport, Iowa, compelling them to testify regarding a animal rights-related vandalism incident at the University of Iowa.

Feldman and Scott spoke to the local press and 30 to 40 supporters at a rally beforehand in Davenport, then refused to testify. At the contempt hearing, the judge offered both immunity, but they still refused to talk, and were taken away. The judge believes they will remain in jail until they comply or the jury ends (likely in 11 months).

Portland Woman To Live On Wild Food Foraged In Portland For Thanksgiving Week
From Friday Nov. 20 through Thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 26, urban forager Rebecca Lerner will attempt to survive exclusively on wild food she gathers from sidewalks, parks, wilderness areas and yards in the city of Portland, OR. There will be no Dumpster diving, mooching from gardens or picking from cultivated fruit trees. In an effort to highlight wild food, Lerner's unusual menu will include thistle, sumac, dandelion and other weeds; fat she gathered from a roadkill deer; the root vegetable wapato; acorns, chestnuts, hazelnuts and black walnuts harvested from city trees; mushrooms; stinging nettles; hawthorn berries; yellow dock seeds; cleavers, and more.

"Foraging is a fun and free way to get healthy local food," Lerner said. "It's also a survival skill that can come in handy in an emergency, and a way to get in touch with our roots as hunter-gatherers."

What is at Stake with Free Trade
In the ten years since the World Trade Organization (WTO) protests in Seattle, global opposition to free trade and "globalization" has exploded. The general public now has a basic understanding of how the world economy works ... against them: companies scour the globe searching for slave wages, which help push down wages in "developed" countries; any regulation that reduces profits — environmental, financial, labor, etc. — is destroyed or ignored.

The two focal points of the anti-globalization movement have been dismantling of the WTO and free trade agreements; both legitimate targets. However, what happens if both goals are accomplished? Mission Accomplished?
