The Misery of the WTO: For a Reinvention of World Trade
The crisis of the WTO has two causes: a lack of trust and an ideological prejudice. A lack of trust exists because the countries of the North judge trade with two standards, free trade for the South and protectionism for their own economies (in agriculture).

Book Party: Friday, April 24, 7:00pm, at the Bread & Roses Center. The truth is, none of the 20 leaders gathered in London has the slightest idea how to 'solve' the economic problems facing the globe....this is a crisis endemic to capitalism, where markets swallow markets and wealth is made by con games that would make the Mafia blush, by the biggest banks on earth. The latest economic summit was PR, amidst the flames of chaos.

Ballot Measure 5-190: Immigrants Win, Wayne Mayo Bigots Lose! 5-190 Down In Flames!
Last year noted bigot and repressed dick head Wayne Mayo set his sights on higher office, and decided to pave the way with the blood of immigrants. He wanted to capitalize on the redneck, anti-immigrant nature of the right-wingers he pals around with. So he parked his pompous self outside the Scappoose post office, soliciting signatures to get Measure 5-190 on the ballot. He did manage to get it on the ballot, and alas, it passed by a slim margin. But the poorly written, badly conceived piece of hate legislation will never become law. Here is why, and why it matters.

The Debate Over Nationalization: The Establishment Divided
"... the word "nationalization" scares the hell out of people. And so the debate has been opened up now, and that's good. Let's talk about it." Rep. Maxine Waters (D-California)

As Wall Street deludes itself into thinking that the economy has finally "turned the corner," the more intelligent economists continue sounding the alarm bells, pleading for a fundamental change in government policy to avoid a devastating, systemic collapse.

These "radical" economists are not what you might expect. They are well connected members of the political establishment, having worked in some cases for the International Monetary Fund (I.M.F.), Harvard, The New York Times, the Federal Reserve, etc.

How Many Democrats Will Stand Up Against Obama’s Bloated Military Budget?
Much of the media attention this week on President Obama's new military budget has put forward a false narrative wherein Obama is somehow taking his socialist/pacifist sledgehammer to the Pentagon's war machine and blasting it to smithereens. Republicans have charged that Obama is endangering the country's security, while the Democratic leadership has hailed it as the dawn of a new era in responsible spending priorities. Part of this narrative portrays Defense Secretary Robert Gates as standing up to the war industry, particularly military contractors.

The reality is that all of this is false.
