Parable of Pete Seeger at Inauguration Concert
Pete Seeger led the group of many in a highly controversial version of Woodie Guthrie's song "This land is your land" the real version- which includes verses about oppression in our land. It was broadcast on HBO who tried to surpress the showing of it on the internet and demanded that the video be taken down off of YouTube. German TV also broadcast the performance and has now put it back up on Youtube. Power to the people! Power to the songsters and the minstrels!

Pass it around!

In the "Creole trick," the perpetrator pretends to be the victim. Cheney sits in a wheelchair and the war profiteering is repressed. The $3 trillion war (cf. Joseph Stiglitz' book) is a theft of the present and the future that reduced American stature to a rogue state.

Maoist Leadership in Nepal Bans Strikes
As a strike wave sweeps the country, the Maoist leadership agrees to banning strikes.

Since the Maoists emerged in the April 2008 Nepal elections as the largest party (though without an absolute majority) to lead the new coalition government, they have failed to heal existing divisions - in their own party, within the parliamentary political system and its ruling class - or within the intermingled social, caste and ethnic tensions across the wider society. In fact, all these divides have widened. And since November a strike wave has spread across the country.

A Visit to Out to Pasture Farm Sanctuary
Shy Pig One of the greatest sources of suffering and oppression on this earth is hidden behind the walls of factory farms. More than 45 *BILLION* animals are killed for food by humans every single year worldwide, and most of those lived their entire, short lives on factory farms. Many of them never saw the light of day. And many of them died for nothing, as their flesh is often wasted in this gluttonous land of plenty. This is a holocaust of unimaginable magnitude, being carried out each and every day.

Why Bailing Out Banks Doesn't Work
The New York Times recently posed an excellent question: "Why save banks if they won't lend?" (January 19, 2009)

Before the first $350 billion "installment" of the bailout, we were told that the money was needed to "unfreeze" the credit markets, meaning that banks would again be willing to lend businesses the money they needed to continue doing business.

Despite hugely popular opposition, the bailout proceeded, and absolutely nothing changed.

We Can Save Thousands of Animals and Hundreds of Humans with Simple Road Tunnels
If you spend any time on the roads, you are familiar with the sad sight of the carcasses of raccoons, opossums, deer, coyotes, foxes, domestic cats and dogs, and many other animals littering the roadsides. The real toll is actually much greater than what you see: Most of the carcasses are removed by government workers soon after they are killed, before you even see them. If they were not removed, they would soon stack up like cord wood on the shoulders of every roadway in the country. In addition, hundreds of people are killed each year along US highways in collisions with wildlife. I've always thought there had to be a better way. And as it turns out, there is.

What follows are the words of youngster and I think sum up everything I felt. Please share his words with your friends and wait for the follow-up piece describing his feelings after the inauguration.

Day of Solidarity with the Palestinians and the Greek Anarchists and Anti-Authoritarians
An International Day of Solidarity is being called for January 23, 2009, for the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the Greek Anarchists and other anti-authoritarian activists in Greece. There are many overlaps between these two struggles, and those similarities are explored below. The date of the demonstration is to also commemorate the anniversary of the Riots in the Warsaw Ghetto in Poland, during the period of Nazi Germany (1943), where 70,000 Jewish people took this city back, and held it for a long time before the Germans took over. The date and the atrocities exposed in this article are highly ironic, given that the Jewish people of Israeli have experienced a genocide of their own: the Holocaust.
