Black Friday Activities in Portland
On my way back from Fur Free Friday, I dodged throngs of Christmas shoppers weaving in and out of the shops downtown. It didn't seem as crowded as last year, but there were lots and lots of people putting material consumption up on a pedestal this afternoon. Bags in hands, they bobbed blissfully through the the city, making the obligatory stop at Pioneer Square to pick up promotional wares from the corporate sponsors of tonight's tree lighting event. But then....

The pods of "shoppers" blithely fanning out across downtown Portland, some festooned in their fur trimmed jackets, met with a large contingent of compassionate anti-fur demonstrators on yet another Fur Free Friday. Evidence Mumbai Attackers were Anglo-American Intel Operatives
I have lived in India. My current spouse is Indian and grew up in Mumbai. And I have several degrees focused on Islamic studies (history and geography). And I do not know about this version of the story. I think its import right now in the "news" chaos to record and share all reports especially reports that counterdict eachother. An international crises on the subcontinent of India with two rival nuclear powers could end up in a Archduke Franz Ferdinand situation. A situation today where Israel just might find a way to do a nuke on Iran and where a current president could declare martial law and postpone his replacement in January. I know all that sounds a bit far fetch, but keep in mind that prior to the assasination of the Austro-Hungarian archduke by members of the Black Hand in Bosnia-Hercogivina most people thought that the treaties and alliance between the ruling elite of Europe would prevent World War I.

On the other hand a huge international tragedy like this can be the means to test a new regimes diplomatic skills and even launch a propaganda campaign that one's new administration is one of world peace adn negotations. Wilson's adminstration used such the crises of World War I to promote American style democracy in Europe and the League of Nations. A crises on the Indian subcontinent could take focus off the global economic crises, focus off the Bush/Cheney war crimes and even renew the "war on terrorism" with an Obama regime rewriting international alliances.

Thanksgiving Beyond Meat: Great Vegan Recipes
The secret to a meat-free Thanksgiving is to respect the rituals and traditions that are important to you, without sacrificing the lives of animals. Food is an integral part of most of our traditions, especially rich holiday foods and comfort foods. Be respectful of your need for these things, and simply replace them with fabulous, rich, tasty vegetarian or vegan alternatives. I have a main dish that I serve every year on the holidays, and my family looks forward to this as surely as they once looked forward to turkey. Here are some great recipes for you to try tomorrow. (Hint: You don't need to explain or apologize to guests. Just cook great food, and they will not miss the meat. Don't bother telling them in advance if you think they will be skeptical, just serve up the best food ever and they will be happy.)

These are just a few ideas to get you started.

As Socialists, we are consistently asked to present our ideas in a clearer, easier to understand manner. To achieve this goal, I'll enlist the help of former Governor of Massachusetts and candidate for the Republican Presidential nomination, Mitt Romney, who appeared in the New York Times Op-Ed section on Nov. 19th.

Romney's piece, entitled "Let Detroit Go Broke," laid bare the intent behind the angry rhetoric used by politicians against the proposed bailout for the "Big Three" automakers. Whereas the giant Wall Street banks received over
1 trillion dollars — so far— without barely having to ask, an industry that actually produces something has to beg for a handout. Why the difference?
