When the feds do bail out the financial system, what will they do to ensure that they aren't also bailing out the people who got us into this mess?

WEEK OF ACTION IN TACOMA! April 21-26, tentative itinerary
Article below:
Over the past 5 years, the student movement has been growing in Portland. The youth of America are the ones who will feel the true scorns of the war, as we are the ones expected to pay off this debt, our education is being cut, and we are the ones fighting this war. On March 20th, at 11 AM hundreds of students city wide, and thousands nation wide will be walking out of school, directly resisting our planned day to day events. From there we will take busses heading to the North Park blocks where we will enjoy speakers and a live band. By walking out, students not only take a stand against the war, but also assert our own power as a community determined to enact change. Acknowledging that silence gives consent. Students are willing to disrupt our education for one day to take a stand against five years of mounting death tolls.
We as students also believe that anti-war efforts have been too moderate and passive to make a difference. This protest (starting at 1 PM by the elephant in the North Park Blocks) has not been registered by the city of Portland, as we do not wish to host a parade. We wish to start a movement that is no longer about feeling good about yourself, but making a change in the world. Patting yourselves on the back after marching in a permitted area is not likely to directly affect war profiteers or anything for that matter. This is why we feel it necessary to make this stride.

B. Obama is coming to Oregon Friday to ask Oregonians how they feel about the Iraq war, corporate welfare, miserable health coverage, gutting of the U.S. constitution, torture, etc. His speech is free and I hope people will come down from Portland to give him a fitting welcome. Bring your signs.
Thanks to all who came and gave your awesome support.

It's almost time for Funk the War! Meet at 12:30 tomorrow at Terry-Shrunk Park (SW 3rd and Madison) to say no to war and disrupt business as usual for local war profiteers (the specific local war profiteer will be announced at the park). No more profiteering in Portland! No more funding of war in our community!
In retrospect, the impact of the rise of Reza Shah to power and the renewal of imperialist competition on the nature and direction of Iran's internal development had fourfold results. First, the historic role of Iran as a buffer state was reasserted by the military regime. The ideological justification for the re-establishment of the buffer position was formulated under the heading of "nationalism", which was an integral part of Reza Shah's reign of terror (1921-1941). The proponents of this line (i.e., Reza Shah and his lieutenants) argued that since the critical geopolitical position of Iran made her vulnerable to the irresistible pressures of the imperialist powers, then the internal stability of the regime, the survival of the ruling monarchy, the preservation of British interests, and the containment of Bolshevism required a tilt in Iran's relationship with Nazi Germany, obtained through offering her "a share of the pie". Both Nazi Germany and Britain were pleased by Reza Shah's dictatorial control of Iran's internal affairs. Their real objective in Iran was the kind of stability and order that would not upset the international power balance in the Middle East and would not draw Iran into anti-imperialist orbit of the Soviets. In fact, the re-establishment by the British of Iran as a bastion against the Soviets granted Reza Shah an opportunity to move fast against the remaining constitutional forces and establish his military rule at the expense of the democratic institutions.

New residents, an innovative energy and increased neighborhood participation have all recently fired up the Madison South neighborhood, located near NE 82nd just west of the I-205 freeway and just north of I-84. With several recent issues in the neighborhood, including successfully defeating a poorly-planned big box store seeking to locate right across from Madison High School, residents have taken their community involvement to the next level and are launching a new neighborhood celebration taking place on Saturday, May 3 from 10am-2pm.

Why is the Portland radical community completely ignoring what is happening in Tibet?
Banks all over the world bought these speculative objects through subsidiaries called "special conduits" that did not appear on the official banalce sheets. The mortal sins of the economy are the speculative practices oftheoverpaid top managers, not state initiatives.
What a long and strange journey this past year has been. I have been riding highs and lows as I have been struggling to regain my freedom and find a balance between my desires for this movement and my own personal happiness.

It's the 15th of the month again. And that means its time to update the Techvibes Portland Start-up Index. While there was neither much movement this month?the top 4 remain in the same positions as last month, with AboutUs retaining the #1 spot?nor, apparently, any new sites added to the index, I do find it interesting that two of the most newsworthy companies in the area, Jive and SplashCast, have actually dropped down the list one and two spots, respectively.
Ever wonder what "faith-based initiative" really means to the people its supposedly meant to help?

Well as the Corporatist media focuses on Obama's reverend and tragedies in New York and Atlanta, the world watches the free fall of the American economy. Trust me sister/brother Cascadians the coming Depression in the US will trigger off a World Depression and geopolitical change that we can not fully fathom as we stand on the edge of this abyss. For Cascadians this should have meant that you should have already established networks and support systems. You should have already found means around petroleum. And ideally you should have (if you could have) joined an intentional community based on surviving Peak Oil, economic meltdown and global climate change. it is not like we have never posted these concerns and alarms. And now they are upon us. These are the times that will test us as a community and as a bioregion. let these times be the birth pangs of a bioregional Cascadia!
I've been trying all day to post this as a response, it will not work- "error.title.error" (sorry if later it shows up about 15 times. But I'd rather that, than this go unsaid).

Radical Eco-Feminist West Coast Spring Tour 2008
The FBI has always been the second worst domestic terrorist organization operating in the United States, second only to the CIA which operates a number of international terrorist training camps around the world.
The FBI works hand-in-hand with organized crime syndicates such as the Church of Scientology, and the CIA's history of being the single largest purchaser of cocaine in the world underscores the fact that the citizens of the world aren't even minimally being "served" or "protested" by our supposed law enforcement elites. Rather the FBI and the CIA serve solely to commit crimes against citizens for the financial benefit of corporations. AT&T, Verizon, all the other telephone carrier companies which have committed treason against the United States continue to do so with immunity, and the FBI's crimes against us rank even worse than supposed "terrorists" that are allegedly trying to kill us all. Ask yourself who has destroyed the supposedly inviolate ideals and laws of the United States: The Bush regime or vague Islamic extremists. My opinions only and only my opinions.
Why are there no Portland actions or even online discussions about what is taking place with Tibetan activists right now?
A direct action or not?
Monetary policy can have magical effects; but sometimes the magic doesn't work. And this is one of those times... The ugly economics of the financial crisis will soon create some ugly politics.
On Friday Bear Stern shares closed at $30. Over the weekend it was sold to JP Morgan for $2 a share. To the NYT writer that is "about one-tenth the firm's market price."
There you have the quality of economic reporting, or should we call it propaganda, that had a big part in building the debt bubble and its now occuring destruction. If 6.6% is "about one-tenth" there is quite some room to fudge the books.
We are calling on West Coast anti-authoritarians and anti-capitalists to join us on March 19th, and help us bring the operations of these war profiteers to a standstill. We will be meeting on March 19th at Market and Sansome in San Francisco, beginning at 7:30 AM. Actions will be ongoing throughout the day.
Camp Withycombe is an Oregon Army National Guard camp in SE Portland, just south of Clackamas, and it is so close to where we live, there is no excuse not to blockade it right NOW! You can even ride the BUS there. So we're GOING to blockade it. Read on...
