Jeremy Scahill: Despite Antiwar Rhetoric, Clinton-Obama Plans Would Keep US Mercenaries
Jeremy Scahill: Despite Antiwar Rhetoric, Clinton-Obama Plans Would Keep US Mercenaries, Troops in Iraq for Years to Come

Jeremy Scahill reports Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama will not "rule out" using private military companies like Blackwater Worldwide in Iraq. Obama also has no plans to sign on to legislation that seeks to ban the use of these forces in US war zones by January 2009. Despite their antiwar rhetoric, both Obama and Senator Hillary Clinton have adopted the congressional Democratic position that would leave open the option of keeping tens of thousands of US troops in Iraq for many years. ACLU Unveils new "Terror Watch List Counter"
The size of US terrorist watch lists is now in excess
of 900,000 names, an absurd proportion according to
the American Civil Liberties Union. Today the group
unveiled its new ACLU Watch List Counter to make vivid
just how bloated and dysfunctional those lists have
become. The new counter features a rolling odometer
style display with a real time read out, showing how
many individuals are on the list at a given moment.
The watch lists are used for a growing array of
purposes; most notably for subjecting domestic airline
passengers to additional screening, and often far more
intense law enforcement scrutiny, selecting
individuals for scrutiny and interrogation at the
nation's borders, and for excluding people from the
country entirely.

The $54 Million Hillary/Bill Clinton Duo in Meltdown
Hillary Clinton Did you know that the wealth of Hillary and Bill Clinton is now estimated at $54 million? Pretty good, considering he was in debt when he left the White House. In any event, Hillary's bid to capture the Democratic Party's presidential nod is fading faster than the value of the U.S. dollar. In the debates, she's come across as abrasive. Her attack dog tactics are failing. If Sen. Barack Obama carries Texas and Ohio, will Hillary fold? Stay tuned!

nutjob cops paralyzed man needlessly
as if we haven't heard enough tales of cops-gone-wrong, we get a report
out of Coquille, Oregon that a Coos County grand jury has cleared 2 police
officers involved in an arrest that left a man paralyzed from the neck down.

Not all of the jury-members agreed with the majority that cleared the cops.

Carl Foster, 57, suffered a broken neck resisting arrest last month when the
cops "took him down" Foster suffered from a degenerative condition that so
weakened his spine, that substantial injury resulted from their "take down".

The two cops were trying to arrest Foster because of his behavior following
the breakup of his relationship with a Julie Tabernig of Coquille. The cops
found Foster the following day, but he refused to answer their questions as
to what had happened, so they put him under arrest.

Foster's daughter, Kaycee Faught, said Monday she was disappointed with
the decision. She said doctors expect her father to be paralyzed for life.

Welcome to Bush's Republican AMERIKA where the cops get by with such stuff!

Leap Day Actions in Portland
This leap day *February 29* imagine everyone who feels smothered living a mediocre life within the current insane system rising up to resist in whatever way they can. Take leap day off work and live life like it really mattered. Spend the day as a free and whole being. Maybe that means spending time alone, or maybe it means with friends, or with your whole block, or even the whole city. Maybe it means tearing down the forces that seek to force you back to work and back onto you knees on March 1. Maybe living free for a day means spending the day creating new structures, new ideas, new forms of cooperation and a whole new reality which make you happier and freer. You don't have to wait for tomorrow, and you don't have to ask anyone for permission.

Leap for it!

It's a new collective based in Portland, interested in researching what REAL sustainability will look like and then making it happen- not "going green," buying energy efficient light bulbs, but replacing civilization itself with community, equality & sustainability; learning how we as the descendants of imperialism can take responsibility for our and our ancestors wrongdoings on this land.

Hell Hath No Fury Like a Modern Liberal
We live in scary times. And no one scares me more than the faux-liberals of today. They are a most intolerant mob that has become so dislodged from logic that they'd rather gaze reverently at the false packaging of hope than seriously contemplate the issues of the day. They love bandwagons and hate activism. They strive for insular popularity while trampling the populace. And, in the true spirit of fundamentalism, they loathe dissent and flog the dissenter with the kind of glee that is seemingly borrowed from Jimmy Swaggart's beating of the ungodly unbelievers.

Mind is urging GPs to consider alternative therapies such as exercise - particularly outdoor exercise - which it believes has shown to be very effective in combating depression.
