Dr Ron Paul on abortion
As far as I can tell.. and it seems blatant on Ron Paul's website Dr Ron Paul is against a woman's private choice with her physician in regards to the needs of an abortion. Of course an abortion is a medical issues between the person who is pregnant (as far as I know in the human species that is always female) and her physician. I can not speak for others, but to me a woman's medical choice (or need) for an abortion is not simply a medical issue but is an issue of sovereignty of body. I strongly believe that if Dr Ron Paul does not believe in medical procedure called an abortion then should not have an abortion. And since he is likely not to be impregnated as a result of rape nor as a wealthy white man will he ever be pregnant in horrible economic conditions then he should keep his fuckin mouth shut! Maybe instead of running for president in a race in which only the corporate selected will "win", he should have taken that fuckin money of his to help women (specifically young mothers) who are in poverty or in situations of violence. Well that is just me and does not reflects every Cascadian nor Cascadia. Ron Paul has a right to his belief and a right to say his words.

I would be curious to what Dr Ron Paul's stand is on using other animals for medical research?

tri-met/media fear-mongering.
I'm getting sick of all the media frenzy about how dangerous it is to ride the bus. There seem to be a few automobile related fatalities every week in the metro area. The only tri-met fatality I can think of right now is the one where a gentleman was twenty cents short on the fare, wound up in a mental hospital, and was killed by a police officer a couple days later.

M. K. GANDHI -----ON POLITICAL ECONOMICS AND THE RUIN OF NATIONS
"Europeans pounce upon new territories like crows upon a piece of meat. I am inclined to think that this is due to their mass-production factories."

"So far as I know, there is not in history record of anything so disgraceful to the human intellect as the modern idea that the commercial text 'Buy in the cheapest market and sell in the dearest' represents an available principle of national economy."

"We thus find that the economists are wrong in thinking that competition is good for a nation. Competition only enables the purchaser to obtain his labour unjustly cheap, with the result that the rich grow richer and the poor poorer. In the long run it can only lead the nation to ruin. A workman should receive a just wage according to his ability. Even then there will be competition of a sort, but the people will be happy and skilful, because they will not have to underbid one another, but to acquire new skills in order to secure employment."

M. K. GANDHI

Carbon trading is beginning to be established in the US as the primary way that governments and corporations address the climate crisis. Kevin Smith & Tamra Gilbertson—leading critics of international climate change policy and researchers with www.carbontradewatch.org—have recently returned from the climate negotiations in Bali and will soon be on tour in the Pacific Northwest.

Workers International League - Portland 23.01.2008 11:59
Amtrak Workers: a Looming Strike, Railway Workers Unite!
Organized labor in the U.S. is fast approaching a crossroads. The enormous successes of the past are under attack, putting the unions in a defensive position. Battling not only the companies but their own bureaucracy, the rank and file of various powerful unions find themselves facing extraordinary sell-out contracts approved by their "leadership," but benefiting only the company. The struggle to defeat these sell-out contracts may well be the opening clashes of a revival of the U.S. labor movement, which has lain dormant for decades, but which by its very nature may lead to larger conflict. It is in this context that Amtrak workers have dealt a temporary blow to the trend of concession and showcased their growing political consciousness when, after bargaining for 8 years, a coalition of 10 Amtrak unions either rejected revolting tentative agreements that their union "leaders" had brokered with Amtrak, or refused to continue the seemingly now-pointless process of bargaining.

This has put Amtrak workers on a collision course with management, i.e., the federal government. The creation of an "illegal" coalition of Amtrak unions to bargain - "illegal" because it violates the Railway Labor Act - was the first progressive step in increasing the power of the workers. Now nine unions are poised to strike Amtrak, and if it weren't for a "Presidential Emergency Board" (PEB) that intervened, they'd be picketing already. The PEB - consisting of all Bush appointees - must now decide if every avenue of arbitration has been tried, when everyone already knows that it already has. The PEB was officially established on Dec. 1st, and in 60 days, if no agreement is reached, the parties will be free to act themselves. For the workers this will mean striking. For the bosses, this will mean imposing their terms of employment and destroying the gains of the past.

the peace movement faces its 5th year
As the occupation of Iraq approaches its grim fifth anniversary, the anti-war movement finds itself at an impasse. The two major national anti-war groups, United For Peace & Justice (UFPJ) and Act Now to Stop War and Racism (ANSWER) will not be bringing their forces together to build the largest possible event to oppose the war - again.

ANSWER had proposed that all anti-war forces, including UFPJ, come together in a broad coalition to build a nationally focused anti-war demonstration in DC on Saturday, March 15th. UFPJ announced that they would instead be building what they hoped would be the largest non-violent civil disobedience action in DC on Wednesday March 19th, the anniversary of the war. To her credit, Cindy Sheehan attempted to bring ANSWER, UFPJ, and others together in a movement-wide united coalition to take joint action in March. However, the UFPJ steering committee backed out saying, "It was not clear how being part of another coalitional structure would help move all this work forward."

Girls and Boys, Ladies adn Gentlemen, Trangenders and Friends and all around sentient beings .. ARE YOU READY? GET READY TO RUMBLE!!!!!

Yes this is going to be rough. But with the right frame of mind, the right actions, the right cooperation. We will get through this and it can be glorious! As the Amerikan Empire and the Global Empire of Exploitation melts before our eyes we could make something better. We need to be careful because Bush and his fascist elite do plan to impose martial law and use Blackwater or other mercenaries to do their bidding (to place the slave collar and fetters on our necks, hands and ancles). But if you (we) build a network now with friends, family, co-works, neighbors and others and PROTECT and GUARD farmable land and steward the Commons. Then we may for the first time be free from this illusion of consumption and create something amazing. A land where people are empowered via consensus building processes and to embrace our relationship with Nature in a way that would make all our most ancient ancestors proud.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is taking public comments on the proposed channel modification (dredging) project that would be required to accomodate the LNG import tankers proposed for Coos Bay by the Jordan Cove Energy Project terminal. One certainty (denied by JCEP) is that the constant dredging would result in a steady decline and absence of eelgrass ecosystem from the bay, this loss of eelgrass would lower the fishery's productivity as eelgrass is the base of the estuary food pyramid. This effects seals, birds, dolphins, people, etc..
