Just an imporaant reminder for all of you that in a close society it does nto matter if you are guilty or not... authoritarian regimes and their minions make up charges and fabricate evidence all the time. So if you do not use (sell, take or whatever) illegal materials they can be used against you anyway. This spying only adds to the endless possiblities of that.

FCC Quid Pro Quo
Thousands of people across the continent have weighed in to say NO to the FCC's plan to allow further consolidation of the media. Indeed, millions. More than 3 million people told them NO last year when they tried this. And thousands more spoke up this time. And still, the rubber-stamping took place today. In spite of overwhelming public opposition, the FCC voted today to give all of our stories away to a tiny, control-freaking, corporate elite. Why?

Cop Speeds through Crosswalk full of School Children
At 4:01 today, I was stopped at a red light at the intersection of 33rd and Fremont. A school bus had just unloaded a large group of school children, and they were in crosswalks just ahead of me, going in two directions across the intersection. At that moment, I saw a speeding police car careening up from behind the line of cars stopped at the light. His siren was on, his flashers were going, and he was oozing with a sense of entitlement that defied belief as he failed to even slow the fuck DOWN in a SCHOOL zone, as CHILDREN were crossing a street, RIGHT NEXT TO A SCHOOL BUS.

Bolivia: Drastic action needed
In Bolivia, poverty and inequality are on the increase because the government has not been able to implement its National Development Plan. A report drawn up by the Planning Ministry in Bolivia and an arm of the United Nations, the UNFPA, came to the following conclusion: "There is social and economic inequality in the country due to a lack of government policies to bridge the gaps and these inequalities will increase as time passes."

The figures say it all. Poverty affects 6 out of 10 Bolivians, while 4 out of 10 live in extreme poverty. The situation is getting worse each year because the annual growth rate of the population is 200,000, but 174,000 of these will live in poverty. While the bourgeoisie plays with hunger strikes to gain so-called Autonomy, some 15,000 children die each year from hunger or hunger related diseases.

80,000 march against US airbase construction at Dal Molin, Italy
One of the most important movements right now in Italy is the inspiring coalition to prevent the US from building a military base at Dal Molin, Vicenza in Northern Italy. On Saturday 15th December, an estimated 80,000 people marched in cold weather to say No to the base. This was virtually ignored in the mainstream Italian press and TV. Prodi's "centre left" government, supported by parties that say they are against the war, said "The base will be approved". It's a national issue!
