US Social Forum Supports Call for Independent, International Investigation into 9/11
During June 27th to July 1st, approximately 9,400 people from across the America, and beyond, gathered in Atlanta for the historic, first-ever United States Social Forum. Thanks to donations from some of our generous supporters, 911Truth.org was there, together with about 15 other 911Truth activists from Georgia, California, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Washington DC, and Maryland. We went with the idea we'd work to "convince" people to look at the need for a real investigation into the crimes of 9/11. After all, the various issues and causes represented by this diversity of People were predicated, to such a strong degree, upon the events of 9/11, and it made sense that if presented with the information, we'd win some allies.

How science has failed our young people
As human and other life forms are plunged into an ever widening circle of suffering and desolation we are constantly told that only science can adequately solve the causes of this desperate situation. But can we rely on science when it is clear that science is the aggressor and the arrogant underwriter of the destruction that now threatens to overwhelm us? I say that we can and must not.

“Selling Out” as a Street Performer (aka Busker)
Many perform on the streets simply to give free art to the world. Many perform for political reasons, to spread a political message on public streets, as in the tradition of agit-prop (agitational propaganda). But most buskers have had days when they are playing because they need the money, not because they want to. On these days, it is more attractive than ever to "sell out." I interviewed some buskers to find out what "selling out" looks like in a busker context.

Kucinich – A Man Whose Time Has Come
I went to the Kucinich rally here in Portland the other night - many of you know that I was pretty much sold on Kucinich anyway. Now I am ready to promote that man till he is in the White House.

I heard Edwards speak informally to a small contingent of peace demonstrators here in Portland about a month ago so I have a means of comparison. I admit I like both men but I am a person who looks at policy first and then I look for evidence of character. I distrust charm because I am aware that charm can be the first attribute of a con artist. I did not sense as much easy, natural charm in Kucinich as I had in Edwards, but I found Kucinich far more likable than I had expected.

For a United Anti-War Movement
The world situation is characterized by extreme political, economic, social, and military instability. Humanity has entered an unprecedented period of wars, revolutions, and counter-revolutions. This is at root a reflection of the crisis of the world capitalist system, with the crisis of U.S. capitalism at its center.

Capitalism is an economic system based on private ownership of the means of production and the relentless pursuit of profits. This leads to vicious competition between rival capitalists for control of the world's natural resources, markets and labor. Under capitalism, national governments negotiate trade deals, use diplomatic pressure, and often resort to military force to defend the interests of "their" country's corporations.

A Matter of Justice or the Failure of Nations
Press secretary for the Bush Whitehouse, Tony Snow, stated that Bush "has the ability to exercise his 'own authority' ..," [my emphasis]. The comment was made in reference to a dispute in Congress and to presidential discretionary powers; however, what everybody is at pains to avoid is the nature of this "authority" in the US political system. Yes, the authority that is invested in the president is invested by the people through the democratic process; a president then becomes the representative voice of the people; and all things being equal - which they clearly are not - democracy continues in a healthy State! And therein lies the tale; the sickest democracy in the world today is the American 'democracy.'

Is Barack Obama an Alternative for U.S. Workers?
After years of Bush's open-ended war on working people at home and abroad, many on the "left" are desperate for an alternative. For many, that alternative is Barack Obama, a Democratic Senator from Illinois. Obama, who is very careful with his words and actions, has done a good job so far of portraying himself as a "sensible progressive". However, far from being a "progressive" alternative, Obama is at his core a typical representative of the bosses' political parties. Despite presenting himself as a candidate of "change", Obama is a defender of capitalism and imperialism, and hence of exploitation and oppression. On all fundamentals, he is far closer to Bush than he is to being a genuine alternative for working people.
