Road Which?!
Day 8 of Pedalpalooza brought a nice selection of events oriented towards the past, present, and future.

There was the "Little Beirut" tour of famous Portland "riot" scenes, inspired by George HW Bush's comment once-upon-a-time after his motorcade was egged, "Gee, that was a little like Beirut back there!" There was the Platinum Bike Master Plan hearings, to talk about the future of cycling accommodations in Portland. And there was the one I chose to go on, Road Witch.

Laissez-faire Capitalism, Desensitisation and Moral Bankruptcy
Two events in particular typify the modern age, the exploitation or rather the reduction of poor, exploited and victimised humans as body part suppliers -- kidneys in particular -- and the vacuous, worthless celebrity of a no-talent, mindless, American rich girl whose presence in the mass media is constant. While millions suffer injustices, tortures and hardships, Paris Hilton is served for mass consumption; coverage of the horrific trade in living human body parts is avoided for obvious and shameful reasons!

Immigration Raids: Standing Up for Neighbors
Two days ago, ICE attacked our neighbors and comrades. They did so in the name of Homeland Security and the federal government. Families were broken apart, parents were ripped away from their children, wives and husbands were torn from their spouses. This is not right. Cascadians, this is an assault on our community, on our comrades. We will not stand for it.

PORTLAND BUSINESS OWNER DOING OKAY AT “GROUND ZERO TO DAY LABOR MOVEMENT”
Businessman Charlie Becker & neighbors at With the federal raid on Tuesday of a North Portland food processor that netted more than 160 alleged undocumented workers, local tensions have been raised exponentially in the immigration debate now raging throughout the nation. In this final of a two-part series on the day labor movement in Portland, businesses on the street where most of the city's day labor activities occur have their say. And they are definitely not speaking in unison. (See also  http://portland.indymedia.org/en/2007/06/360542.shtml)

Iran's Mullah regime in the midst of deporting over 100 thousand "illegal"Afghani refugees
As I watch the saga of the 160 poor and obviously hard working members of our community unravel, I couldn't help but notice how many had been effected by this tragedy. Not just physically, but think about the psychological damage to these families. Who is holding the corporate bastards who just got away with thousands of dollars from this fiasco accountable???

This story much resembles what has been happening in Iran for the last 30 years or since the beginning of the Russian/USSR wars. Millions of Afghanis refugees call Iran home. Most live on the northeastern areas of Iran bordering Afghanistan, but many have also migrated to Tehran and Mashad to find work. The plight of "illegal" native/latin Americans in the US is very similar to the plight of the Afghanis is Iran. Their situation just took a turn for the worse as Tehran's regime undertakes the largest mass deportation project in the history of Iran.
