The group is demanding the removal of four Klamath Dams owned by Berkshire subsidiary PacifiCorp. The Federal Minister of Employment and Workplace Relations (big) Joe Hockey was forced this week to draw his leader's attention to the oppressive reality facing average working Australians. Crushing debt, loss of penalty rates and other entitlements have forced many Australian families to the wall. Mortgagee sales in working class areas throughout the nation have increased at an alarming rate. John Howard, the darling of big business and the Corporate sector wondered why the common people were not eating cake!

Days of Action: May Day to Cinco de Mayo
Root Force is calling for Days of Action against La Parota Dam from May 1 to May 5, May Day to Cinco de Mayo. This comes in response to increased push by the Mexican government for the construction of the dam, marked by increased repression of resisters and a new loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

In a sweeping move that has little attention this week the USA and the European Union signed up to a new economic partnership that will see regulatory standards "harmonized" and will lay the basis for a merging of the US and EU into one ...globalized world order.
I just checked out the video links posted by "shocked" of the LA police riots. What surprises me most, I think, is the reaction of the corporate media.
There was a Police Riot on May Day. Usually the police and the media work together, but not this time so the media strikes back.

On April 14th in Portland Oregon, at the doors of NAFTA-loving Democratic Senator Ron Wyden's office, as many as 300 trade unionists came out in a spirited rally representing occupations that ranged from nurses to longshoremen. They were there to protest mass layoffs at a Daimler-Chrysler owned plant that manufactures Freightliner trucks. They were also demanding that Senator Wyden vote against the renewal of Fast Track which eliminates Congressional review, mark-up and oversight of trade agreements, while giving large corporations special access to trade negotiators. These trade unionists saw a direct connection between the mass layoffs and the free trade policies Fast Track has helped to mold.
Over 800 living-wage jobs were lost on March 29 at the Daimler-Chrysler plant, almost half of its workforce. In all, 632 members of Machinists Local 1005, 65 members of Painters Local 1094, 94 members of Teamsters Local 305, and 11 members of Service Employees Local 49 were given the axe with no expectation of recall. This blow was part of a national round of layoffs of up to 4,000 workers involved in the manufacture of Freightliner Trucks.
President Bush and the Congressional Democratic leaders met Wednesday to initiate negotiations on a new draft of legislation to fund the Iraq war. The talks followed Bush's veto Tuesday of a $124 billion military spending bill that included language proposing a phased and partial pullout of US troops from the occupied country.
While insisting that they would continue a fight for a timetable for reducing the number of occupation troops currently in Iraq, Democratic leaders made it clear that they would bow to Bush's intransigent opposition to any restrictions on his control of military operations and approve the money to pay for the continuation and escalation of the war. The formal talks between Bush and the House and Senate Democratic leaders came after the Democrats failed to muster anywhere near the two-thirds majority in the House of Representatives to override the presidential veto. The House voted 221-203 to override, with two Republicans joining the Democrats and seven Democrats siding with the president. Ohio Democrat Dennis Kucinich, who opposed any funding for the war, voted present.
Millions of workers and students on strike: report of the first 12 hours of the May 2 strike
Just six months after Calderon assumed the presidency and the anti-fraud movement and the APPO were defeated, the situation in Mexico is heating up again. The previous showdown over the elections and the revolutionary struggle in Oaxaca solved nothing. The bourgeois, foolishly, perhaps believed that the working class was finished, and that the struggle was over. They will not be able to maintain that opinion any longer. Carrying on from the magnificent struggles in March against the attacks of the weak Calderón government, a general strike was called earlier this week on May 2 - the first general strike in Mexico since 1916.
I'm searching for some pictures or video of John Edwards May 2nd appearance in the Park Blocks.

Ron Paul makes surprise showing in poll
It is characteristic of an American election cycle to consist of nothing but a steady stream of prevarication and unadulterated bullshit. Since it is not possible for an electorate to vote sensibly or make informed choices in the absence of an informed electorate, I have decided to wade into the debates myself, and do the American voter a big favor by clearly spelling out the true meaning of the policy issues confronting American voters in the upcoming elections. Somebody has to do it, and since it seems that no one else will, I guess the task falls to me. I have always believed that if you know enough to complain that somebody else isn't doing something then you know enough to do it yourself. With that thought in mind I will begin clarifying the issues by cutting through that smokescreen of political bullshit that currently characterizes America's political process.
In the Bible, justice is always measured in the well-being of the weakest. Freedom could be understood as bond to community, not egomania. People are not commodities or a mass. There are no superfluous persons or superfluous continents. Ms. Kassmann is a Lutheran bishop in Hamburg.
![]() Downtown Portland, OR Thursday evening in busy downtown Portland, a giant advertising projector illuminated the provocative message that PacifiCorp (Pacific Power), owner of the Klamath dams, is destroying Native cultures and salmon populations on the Klamath River, as well as taking advantage of their ratepayers. A group of advocates for a healthy Klamath River also engaged Portland Pacific Power ratepayers who stopped to take a look at this unusual spectacle.
