No Killing Sea Lions
Last week, some old guy from Rainier shot a sea lion in the river, because it had (GASP!) eaten a salmon. The very thing the fisherman had planned to do, had nature endowed him better for such things. No one shoots fishermen, though. The fishermen are all worked up, the lawmakers are looking for cheap and easy "solutions" to the problem of declining salmon populations, and even some "environmentalists" (the ones who think in numbers and theories, rather than in living beings) insist that it's time to start killing sea lions to save salmon.

How to get out of Iraq for just $450 million
If Nancy Pelosi and Congress really want the war to end and U.S. personnel to leave Iraq, it doesn't have to cost $100 billion or even $10 billion. For just $450 million, Congress could hire U.S. airlines to fly all U.S. troops (and contractors) home for good, in time to enjoy summer with their families.

Their "demand" for a non-binding, loophole-filled timeline to bring troops home from Iraq was apparently too radical for the left side of the bipartisan war and torture coalition. But party leaders made it clear that the next bill will have to include "language that influences" war policy.

Russian and Estonian Strife: Historical Roots
Modern analysis of 20th century Russian history indicates that the struggle of Russia vs. Germany in WWII was not a struggle for the glory of socialism. It was in defense of Mother Russia. This statue isn't so much about defiling the communist past. It is a direct assault on the very essence of what "Russia" and "Russian" is.

Bobby Kennedy joins Klamath Tribes, fishermen and Riverkeeper in PacifiCorp toxin suit
toxic algae in PacifiCorp's Klamath Reserviors SAN FRANCISCO - A group of Klamath River tribal leaders, commercial fishermen and recreational business owners filed suit today against PacifiCorp, contending that two of its dams in Northern California are the cause of massive blooms of toxic algae that are decimating the salmon fishery and causing an extreme potential health hazard to humans.
The group retained nationally-known trial lawyers to file the suit in the United States District Court in San Francisco, which has jurisdiction over all of Northern California.
The news comes just days before demonstrations by Native people, fishermen and others in Portland and Omaha.

On April 16, 2007, a major Italian network (Canale 5) has aired some conclusive evidence that Building 7 did not collapse on its own, but was deliberately taken down with the use of explosives. May Day Is Now Loyalty Day?!
What the fuck!? How dare they try to pull this shit! What a slap in the face of the working class that fought and died on and around May Day and what's this shit about believing deeply in self-government? Since when? How dare they attempt to take this day away from immigrants who, in the TRUE spirit of the holiday, are fighting for human rights! It makes me ill to think that someone who might not know what May Day is about might be confused that this is the reason for the marches.

the day the internet music died? 02.05.2007 07:23
Internet music/radio may fall silent on May 15; Contact Congress, details recent change
When it rains, it pours. "The ruling will go into effect on May 15 unless we urge Congress to Rescue Internet Radio....After intense lobbying from the recording industry the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB) ignored a massive public outcry and ruled to dramatically increase the rates webcasters must pay every time they stream a song. These draconian rules will shut down noncommercial and independent Internet radio outlets, leaving the Web with the same cookie-cutter music formats that have destroyed commercial radio....the new regulations would silence many outlets that play independent artists and musical genres you can't find on the radio dial. And nonprofit NPR, Pacifica and community radio stations would be forced to take down most of their online musical programming....Independent musicians, webcasters, media reformers and Internet radio listeners have joined forces with members of Congress to reverse this bad decision. Late last week, Reps. Jay Inslee (D-Wash.) and Donald Manzullo (R-Ill.) introduced the bipartisan Internet Radio Equality Act (H.R. 2060), which would reverse the CRB decision."

Political conjunctions and Blurring definitions
A number of factors have recently formed a conjunction, which provided a new view of a popular 'reality'. Whenever the flames of the terrorist 'threat' begin to wane convenient arrests are made that fan the embers back into flames of concern. Recent police raids in Sydney and Melbourne have resulted in the arrests of two Sri Lankan Tamils; "two men have appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on terrorism related charges," ran the intro from one media outlet while another ran with, "men face terrorism charges after raids." I'm sure we all get the drift but it should be noted that assistant commissioner to the Federal Police, Frank Prendergast, went to lengths "to make it clear that these men weren't involved in any possible attacks on Australian soil." Well then, what?

Don Imus vs. Rap Music Debate Continued:
Randi Rhodes of Air America is still wrong when she claims that "the" issue (insisting there is only one issue) is no more than white people blaming rap music for words like "ho" when used in the derogatory sense. Don Imus question: "What about rap music?" is a legitimate question—even if "pseudo-liberals" (real liberals consider fairly all relevant points of view before getting judgmental) are quick to dismiss it. In fact dogmatic certitude that there is "one" significant way (my way or the highway) to interpret the debate is itself a red flag.
