I am passing this along, not to endorse Mitch (he's not campaigning anymore, he's actually doing shit by the sounds of this), but because I myself was interested to read in the progress that has been made with some pretty important bills that are now laws, and some that are being re-worked. And also it seemed important to pass along the background (and future plans) behind the passage of the creation of another rainy day fund, by suspending the corporate kicker for the coming year, which I was very surprised to see pass. I think this information is important to share with others in Oregon and so I'm reposting this email so others can also get an idea of what is going on in this legislative session in Oregon.

No freedom of religion if religion calls to war, glorifies war, presents war as inevitable or promotes the hatred of humankind.

At the end of the large peace March in Portland Sunday, groups of Protesters went wandering peacefully on the sidewalks to vocally let mesmerized Portland consumers know there was still a war going on (and with most deaths civilian). The Porland police repeatedly used bicycles and horses to "close" sidewalks and corral and route selectively.

Two actions will take place that day at Terry Schrunk Plaza, SW 3rd and Madison. The first will go from 12 noon to 2 PM to gather the lunchtime crowds together. The evening event will run from 4 PM to 6:30 PM and will culminate with an oversize message to be transmitted to the Iraqi people. The day is being titled "No More Invasions, No More Wars: The Occupation of Iraq, Four Years Later" and is being coordinated by the Peace and Justice Works Iraq Affinity Group.

The situation in Chiapas is very tense and everyday it worsens. What we're seeing is a new policy that brings together paramilitary forces with state and federal governements, the police and the armed forces, to take away the Zapatista's land and provoke a conflict in order to justify an armed incursion.

The Pentagon was the focus of a spirited Peace demonstration on March 17, 2007. The crowd in the tens of thousands heard from over 30 riveting speakers. Activist Cindy Sheehan said: "Let's stop this b... s...These b... s.... wars. It's for the corporations...to make them rich and line the pockets of the...war criminals." Friends, The BLM and U.S. Forest Service released an Environmental Assessment today outlining their preliminary decision to grant a lease to Idaho General Mines for land north of Mount St. Helens. They are proposing to lease 217 acres of the approximately 900 acres the company was hoping to lease, while leaving the option for leasing the remaining 600 + acres for a later date. They are not allowing any activity on the ground and are requiring the mining company to apply for a permit (which will require a new environmental review) for exploration.
