I recently interviewed my 22 year old son about his childhood growing up with the circus...I wondered how growing up with DIY entertainment, around legendary musicians, talented circus acts, original art and organic community, in natural settings, affected him...He said that "demystification" of performance was important. Portland-based peace activist Nikki Thanos will appear in court tomorrow November 15, 2006 at 9:00 am at the Multnomah Justice Center, 1120 SW 3rd Street in Portland. She is facing charges of Criminal Mischief for an Oct. 31 act of civil disobedience at the Mexican Consulate. Thanos was protesting the Mexican government's complicity in nine murders of Oaxacan social movement leaders. It is an open hearing and supporters are most welcome.

Yesterday, the 9th US Court of Appeals was presented with the details of this case, by Attorney Eldon Rosenthal, who argued that the Portland Police did not have probable cause to shoot, and that the policy within the department was lax, because the policy then in effect (and probably still in effect) did not require that level of protection (probable cause).

The Sandinista revolution, upon coming to power in 1979, confiscated the land that had been held by the Somoza family and some of his closet cronies and redistributed it to the poor that worked it partly through establishing collectively run state farms. The Sandinistas also made literacy and healthcare a priority. Easily treated diseases that Somoza let kill and maim, such as polio, were vaccinated against and eliminated. Teaching everyone to read and write became a priority in the country where Somoza once declared he wanted "... uneducated people, little more than beasts of burden."

The Forest service has developed plans at the national level and mandated local forests to implement these plans and flush them out. These plans set-up a transfer of public forests to private concessionaires and close all campgrounds, snoparks, and trailheads where they cant start charging enough fees to be 'profitable'. These plans were developed without any public input and are about to be adopted. The effect would be to force the public onto a narrow list of highly 'developed', fee regulated, and privately run 'recreation sites', or onto private resorts. No public access to public lands would remain.

Once the government can regulate the TIME AND PLACE OF FREE SPEECH, it is NO LONGER FREE SPEECH. The "time and place factor" constructively ELIMINATES free speech.

The Portland Police Union has a newsletter wherein they take a position on the police homicide of James P. Chasse Jr. It is very telling about the nature of cover-up and conspiracy and the way that the police use thier excessive power in Portland.
Portland needs to demand a Federal Investigation in this matter because it is clear that this police problem will persist and increase without a reasonable check to the imbalance.

News has spread across the country, but Americans remain unhindered by spineless Democratic leaders' calls for a cut and run from Impeachment. Instead of being silenced, patriotic Americans have been emboldened by this call to action and have turned up the volume on their demands for justice.
However, in stating flatly that "impeachment is off the table," incoming Speaker Pelosi and incoming Chairman Conyers appear to have erred rather substantially. Impeachment, of course, is a matter of Constitutional law, not personal discretion on the part of individual lawmakers. The pre-emptive nature of the decision by Pelosi and Conyers stands in sharp contrast to every principal of law enforcement. Congress - whether controlled by Democrats or Republicans - has a solemn duty to uphold and when necessary enforce the law.
CNN editors replaced all Palestinian quotations with quotes from the US and Israel in its story 'U.S. vetoes U.N. condemnation of Israel's Gaza strikes'. The new, more prominent article begins with the exact same wording as the original, but all Palestinian remarks are gone.
How do they manage to pull off these things again and again and conference attendees just sit there nodding? Frightening and humorous (as in the joke's on the participants)at the same time...
