Anonymous hacks DOJ to avenge Aaron Swartz
Anonymous also posted an editable version of the website, inviting users to deface it as they pleased. Multiple pages -- not only the home page -- appeared to allow users to alter them.
In anger over the recent death [SUICIDE!! HELLO!?]of an Internet activist who faced federal charges, hackers claiming to be from the group Anonymous threatened early Saturday to release sensitive information about the U.S. Department of Justice.

They claimed to have one such file on multiple servers ready for immediate release.
The hackers apparently hijacked the website of the U.S. government agency responsible for federal sentencing guidelines, where they posted a message demanding the United States reform its justice system or face incriminating leaks to select news outlets.

"We have not taken this message lightly...."

GM Worker Willing to Die Seeking Labor Justice
If Jorge Parra lives to see the Portland Auto Show being held from January 24th through the 27th, he will have passed his 65th day on a hunger strike in support of the Association of Injured Workers and Ex-Workers of General Motors-Colmotores (ASOTRECOL). Appearing at press conferences outside the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Parra, who has been on this third hunger strike since November 20, 2012, first apologized for having a hard time knowing what to say due to his lack of eating, and then thanked the crowd of over 100 supporters who had gathered to protest against GM.

Dacks plans on using the Portland Auto Show as an opportunity to educate more people about GM's indifference toward the health and security of its employees. "The auto shows that are happening across the country are GM's highest profile events of the year, and if GM continues turning a blind eye to injustice, their abuses will be exposed in Portland, as they have been at the Detroit auto show." [...]

Martin Luther King, whose birthday was just celebrated, once said that the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice. On balance, it is fair to say that King was correct. It was not so long ago that chattel slavery was legal and people were ruled by kings. And while the United States is hardly a workers' paradise, workers enjoy more rights than they did a century ago. These were not gifts handed down from above. People fought and sometimes died for them. The ASOTRECOL battle as well as the recent spate of anti-worker legislation such as that in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Indiana raises the same question that workers in this country asked a hundred years ago: are we disposable cogs in a machine, or are we living, breathing people whose lives are to be valued far beyond the wealth we can produce for others?

Want to get involved? The following actions are planned:

1. 1/23 from approximately 12-2 and 6:30 to 7:30.

2. 1/24 or 1/25 for a time to be announced sometime between 10 and 3.

3. 1/24-1/27 various times during the auto show for leafleting and other activities.

For more information call Greg Margolis at: 503-285-6603 or 503-806-9164 [cell].

Mohamed Mohamud Trial: Day 4

UPDATE: Day 5 http://portland.indymedia.org/en/2013/01/421437.shtml

Defense is doing serious damage to undercover FBI Agents' credibility

What is emerging from the last four days of testimony by the two undercover FBI operatives known only as "Youssef" and "Hussein" is that every single action that Mohamed Mohamud took in the furtherance of his alleged crime was taken on the explicit orders of the FBI. Mohamed's knowledge of explosives was limited to "Piccolo Pete" backyard firecrackers. Youssef gave him a hand-written shopping list of bomb components to purchase, a list that Mohamed failed to heed orders to destroy after using and which has now been duly entered into evidence.

Something else of interest in yesterday's proceedings was defense attorney Wax's effort, albeit a failed one, to convince Judge King to allow the jury to hear an "outtake" of FBI agent "Hussein" who apparently forgot to turn his wire off before using "colorful language" to express his glee at having "hooked" Mohamed following their August 19 meeting.

The defense has also begun to lay a foundation for asserting that the very idea of using Pioneer Square as the setting for an attack may have been introduced to Mohamed by the FBI agent "Youssef" during their meeting on July 30, 2010. This, by the way, would be the meeting that was not preserved on tape due to the equipment's "malfunction."

Federal "justice" center FBI Entrapment of Mohamed Mohamud
please come down to the court for the ongoing SHOW trial.
if you want to come in, you must get through security. pepper spray can be checked at the door. laptops can be checked at the courtroom, or the overflow room with the video feed.
cells phones must be powered down, because, you know, technology may outsmart their show trial system. [...]

if the rest of the world knew how bogus this trial is, and what a lifeless spectacle it is, and how poorly the US GVT's lawyer's are representing the Outrageous Predatory FBI Bomb Plot, Portland would be the laughing stock of legal communities all the way to to London.

the case is taking place in 9A of the federal Courthouse in downtown portland. the overflow room is at 12A.
arrive at least at 8, for a guaranteed seat, perhaps earlier, it's a little bit of a stampede.

US District Court
www.ord.uscourts.gov
1000 Southwest 3rd Avenue #740 Portland

Family of the entrapped Youth is present. Anyone who is good with media, video, sketches should come.
Courtroom seating is extremely limited (possible 20 seats beyond what the media and GVT attys get).
It is considered likely that the trial go on for 4 weeks at least. there is tons of media present but almost zero activists, or outside street demonstration. some banners would look great on the nightly news perhaps saying "FBI TRAPS" "Stop the FBI" "FBIWatch" or "FBI Predators Leave our Children Alone" or "FBI Oversight Now!" [...]

It was extremely interesting to hear a long phone call with the FBI Fake identity trying to persuade Mo to help with the FBI's Fake Bomb.

Portland City Council Meeting
we should always be watching very confusing???

January 9, 2013 at city hall, all five of the members were present and for the most part, paying attention. Commissioner Fish was a little late but did not miss much. Actually, there was not much to deal with during the 90 minute meeting, except this item:

"TIMES CERTAIN

*21 TIME CERTAIN: 9:30 AM - Authorize the Bureau of Transportation to acquire certain permanent and temporary rights necessary for construction of the SW Boones Ferry Rd - SW Stephenson St Project, through the exercise of the City's Eminent Domain Authority (Ordinance introduced by Mayor Hales) 15 minutes requested."

This request did turn interesting; it did go a lot longer than 15 minutes as requested, and there were a number of citizens who objected to the limited way the city was going ahead with this project. One woman said straight out that the change will not deal at all with the biggest problem they have and that is speeding. I was a little confused by this because I thought this was a simple problem that was going to be finally answered by the city--wrong!

This was presented as an emergency which means that you have to get all the members to agree or they would have to do a second reading and more discussion. The cost of this project is not cheap, in the range of over a million bucks. [...]

CROSS-BORDER SOLIDARITY WITH THE WET’SUWET’EN NATION
Photos of Resistance The Chevron on the corner of MLK and NE Fremont got a little snowy this afternoon when members of various local activist groups gathered to show their support for the Wet'suwet'en Nation.

The Wet'suwet'en Nation consists of 5 clans who reside in an area located in British Columbia. They have been engaged in a fearless struggle against the Pacific Trails Pipeline, an underground pipeline system that would stretch for almost 300 miles from Summit Lake to Kitimat, British Columbia. Chevron Canada Ltd. is heavily-invested in the project, and its completion would grant them 50% of the Pacific Trail Pipelines Limited Partnership. The pipeline is proposed to transport 1,000 million cubic feet per day, about 700,000 barrels, and much like our own little Morrow Pacific Project, the natural gas would be destined for Asian markets. The project would create a direct line of access to the Spectra Energy Transmission pipeline system, resulting in a veiny bi-national network of toxic channels and conduits. The Wet'suwet'en Nation has been calling for solidarity actions from their allies in order to gain support for their movement. In response, today (01.05.2013) members of Portland Rising Tide and Community Alliance Against Coal shut down the Chevron on the Corner of NE MLK and NE Fremont with mounds of snow, while others handed out fliers and waved signs. Snowballs and fun whizzed through the air but it wasn't long until the Portland Police were called to break up the festivities. Police officers were literally knocking the snow out of protestors' hands and shoving people towards the sidewalk in an attempt to end the protest. In spite of this, group members deemed the action a success and are looking forward to continuing to support the Wet'suwet'en Nation in their struggle against the merciless pursuit of profits.

Video: Idle No More Flash Mob Round Dance
On December 23, 2012, a large gathering of Indigenous people and their supporters surprised Christmas shoppers at Pioneer Place Mall in Portland Oregon with a flash mob and Round Dance.

The event was held in solidarity with the Idle No More Movement and to support First Nations Elder Chief Teresa Spencer who at this writing is on the 12th day of a hunger strike to bring awareness and recognition to indigenous treaty rights to all First Nations.

This movement which began in Canada has spread world wide, Europe, the Mid East, Australia, and Mexico, as well as scores of locations in the U.S. and Canada. Although far from a complete list, this map highlights some of the teach-ins, rallies, blockades, flash mob round dances and hunger strikes that have taken place or are being planned, as well as international solidarity actions taking place on four continents.

This video is a little under 12 minutes in length and features brief interviews with two of the indigenous people attending the event. It shows about 150 Native drummers and singers as well as many people engaged in the round dance around the perimeter.

Video: Discussing Housless in Portland Oregon
Live interview with Ibrahim Mubarak and Lisa Fay, organizers with the Right 2 Dream Too (R2DTOO)successfully self functioning Houseless camp located in downtown Portland Oregon. The camp has been operating self sustainably since October of 2011, in spite of severe resistance and persecution by the Mayor and City Commissioners.

Discussing Houselessness in Portland Oregon [video 38 minutes]

On the Pubic Access television program, "A Growing Concern," Ibrahim and Lisa discuss the importance of the Camp, not only to the houseless, but also to the neighborhood in which it is located.

"The first thing houseless people look for is sleep; the second thing they look for is a place to eat. So we figure we can have a place where they can come get 8 - 12 hours of rest and get fed. Then we can help to get them productive.......refer them to social services, what to do if you need Identification, a drivers license, a bus ticket to get out of town, subsidized housing, health care. What happens if you are sleeping on the street and you get a citation, where to go or who to contact."
"Even though there are laws, some of the police and security guards don't practice that law when it comes to people that live without houses. We set that up and it's up to them whether or not they wish to become productive."

Thanks to the vigilance of the encampment, crime in the area is down markedly, including drug dealing which has always been a serious problem in that area of downtown Portland.
Lisa Fay says that, "not only do we look out for 4th and Burnside, but we look out for the entire block. We make routine checks around the whole block.....we do a lot of extra policing during week ends and night time hours, and make sure that you're not going to be selling drugs on this corner."[...]

Ibrahim believes that the City Council is moving against the camp because the local business community considers it an eyesore. "They're trying to get us out of there, it's right on prime property; this is the city that works, and they're seeing people that are out of work, they're being reminded that this city is like every other city. We have our problems, it's not our fault, but it's our fault if we do nothing to address these problems, if we overlook people, sweep it under the carpet."

Sheriff Staton fails to end deportations in Multnomah County
On Monday, December 10th, various organizations from the ACT for Justice and Dignity network held a rally and press conference to call on Multnomah County Sheriff Daniel Staton to stop honoring Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) holds. ICE holds and deportations are responsible for separating families and causing local and state governments to pay the cost for federal immigration enforcement. Local organizations have been working for years to stop the Multnomah County Sheriff from deporting people in our communities. After the meeting with organizers, Sheriff Staton said that he would announce his decision the following Monday at 3pm.

Today [12.17.12] activists returned to 501 SE Hawthorne Blvd. to show their ongoing support towards ending collaborations between the Multnomah County Sheriff and Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Earlier in the day, a group that included Commissioner Amanda Fritz had met with Sheriff Staton and expected a follow-up response at 3pm. A number of people gathered on the ground floor where the Portland Radical Choir sang revised Christmas carols, harmoniously calling for an end to deportations. At 3pm the group went up to Sheriff Staton's office, crowding the lobby and spilling into the hallway. The sheriff was a no-show at press time, opting instead to send two representatives, one of whom remarked (emphasis mine):

"He (Sheriff Staton) feels like for today he's made his statements and received your information," adding "He has more information to consider now."

Not at all satisfied with his I-don't-feel-like-it-attitude, members of the crowd insisted that Sheriff Staton come out to speak to them directly, and the Radical Choir kept everyone entertained as his representatives were sent to try and summon him from his office. The sheriff still refused to show and it was clear that he had no interest in addressing the community, even though he had confirmed that he would during the previous meeting. [...]

Dec 17th Rally at 3:00PM - Sheriff makes ICE announcement 15.12.2012 12:49
VIDEOS: Sheriff Daniel Staton & Jeff Cogen Respond To Delegates On I.C.E. Holds 12/10
On human rights day in Portland Oregon, protesters and local activists occupied three key locations with one of them being the east Multnomah building in southeast Portland where they aimed to hold Sheriff Daniel Staton accountable for the county ICE immigration holds that target hispanic americans as well as other minorities and often times ends in deportation and separation of familys.

joeanybody.com Report-Back Newswire

The california law that has now spread into federal law, mandates that those deemed "suspicious" of being illegal aliens be subject to federal INS holds under the "discression" of the county, and is not mandatory. Over 100 people attended this rally and demonstration, and all of them proceeded to enter the building as it was verified that Sheriff Staton was in his office. A conference was arranged by a staff member and delegates met with him to discuss his role in placing the ICE holds and to ask him to stop the federal-county collaborations. County Commission Chair Jeff Cogen was also notified and came down to address the mass of citizens with a positive statement. This action was organized by Portland Jobs With Justice, ACT, Dream Activists, VOZ, PCASC, and other Portland Occupiers. A decision will be made on monday 12/17 by Sheriff Staton and protesters plan to rally once again at 3pm in hopes that his decision will be to not comply any longer with ICE holds.

Video: Homeless Group Sues City of Portland Over Human Rights Violations
On International Human Rights Day, December 10, 2012, members of Right 2 Dream Too and supporters held a press conference to announce their intention to sue the City of Portland for Article 25 violations of the International Human Rights Code.

Homeless Group Sues City of Portland Over Human Rights Violations

(Excerpted from Press Announcement.)

"Right 2 Dream Too has maintained a self-sustaining rest area for people who are houseless at NW 4th and Burnside since October 2011. Even though the site provides emergency shelter to dozens of people every night at no cost to the City of Portland, the City's Bureau of Development Services continues to fine the landowners for code violations related to recreational camping ordinance. After months of negotiations, testimony before City Council and public rallies there is still no resolution to the conflict between Right 2 Dream Too and the City."

Introductions are made by Ibrahim Mubarak, co founder of Dignity Village. Speakers include the owner of the property; the lawyer suing the City on behalf of the residents and property owner; a resident of the property; Rev. Kate Lore, First Unitarian Church and many others. Each spoke briefly condemning the City for their actions and inactions against the houseless.

After the press conference and rally, (about 20 minutes in to the video) participants entered City Hall to deliver their paperwork to Mayor Sam Adams, but found that the building was on shut down mode. Doors were slammed in their faces, but undaunted the group outflanked past the attendants. Mayor Adams eventually came out to meet them and accept the paperwork.

Upon arriving back on the streets, people discovered that not only had City Hall been shut down, but several police cars and motorcycles were parked on fourth street, blocking traffic. At the end of the video, and back on the streets, Ibrahim gives a scathing condemnation of the actions of City Hall against it's own people. "POWER TO THE PEOPLE>"
