On April 11, 2009, the white supremacist group "East Coast White Unity" (ECWU) plans to host a neo-nazi gathering in Boston, MA named "Patriot Action 2009". The co-sponsor of this event is Volksfront International, a racist skinhead organization founded in 1994, which has a presence in several US states as well as chapters in Canada, Australia and Europe. Although the Boston event is intended as a display of unity between fascist groups, anti-fascists have discovered plotting and betrayal behind the scenes of the white power movement, the extent of which many event organizers and scheduled attendees might not be aware.

Three amazing PDX benefits are planned for 6 activists charged under the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (AETA). Your support is needed.
-CALIFORNIA 4 Arrests: On February 19th and 20th, four animal rights activists from California were arrested on charges for their alleged involvement in "terrorist" activity relating to a long running campaign against University of California research facilities. Illuminating yet another dark chapter in what has been termed the "Green Scare," their case represents a sustained FBI mission to criminalize political dissent. Protesting, chalking slogans, and producing leaflets are among the "terrorist" activity of which these activists are being accused. Each of their charges hold 5 year penalties.
-UTAH - 2 Arrests: On Thursday March 5th the witch hunt expanded when two Utah activists were also arrested under AETA...[who] are being accused for their alleged participation raid of a South Jordan, UT mink farm in August, and the alleged attempted raid of a second mink farm in October.
SHOW YOUR SOLIDARITY: Strong community fundraising and support are need to help pay for the enormous legal bills of all of the AETA defendants. Three great benefits are planned for the next week and the AETA defendants need your help. Come out and show your solidarity!

The Iraq Memorial to Life began its national tour in Olympia, WA yesterday. Representing the desire for peace and reconciliation, the Memorial presents markers for the civilians whose deaths have been documented to be a result of the U.S.-led invasion that began March 19, 2003.
On the first day of Spring, local members of the Portland In Defense of Animals organization provided a free feast for anyone who happened to be at Pioneer Square in downtown Portland. The lunch was provided by Sweet Pea Baking Company, a local vegan bakery.
The group also placed a television screen which showed video of the meat industry inhuman treatment of pigs, chickens and beef. Many passers by gathered and watched the video, surprised and appalled by what one young man referred to as a holocaust."
Cascadia Rising Tide (CRT) has been busy recently getting ready for the Spring and Summer "festivities" and decided to kick off the season down in Eugene at the annual Public Interest Environmental Law Conference (PIELC aka ELAW). ELAW is the largest environmental law conference in the country, is totally free and tends to signify the beginning of the summer environmental activist season here in Cascadia. Due to these factors CRT decided to come out and spread the word about Climate Justice perspectives and make the event a little more fun and action oriented.
Four Portland Rising Tiders (PRT), who organized the Northwest Black Mesa Solidarity Caravan last November, showed up early to give a presentation on Black Mesa and their experiences helping on the land. They talked a bit about the history of Black Mesa, the injustices caused by the US government and the fossil fuel industries. They used a slideshow to help folks visualize the region and the stories they told about the many projects they helped with. The story of Black Mesa is a clear example of the connections between climate criminals and social injustices. This connection has become known as the fight for Climate Justice...

This bill is sitting in committee and I am not sure when it is going to hit the floor. One thing I do know is that very few of the Representatives have read it. As usual they will vote on this based on what someone else is saying. Urge your members to read the legislation and ask for opposition to this devastating legislation. Devastating for everyday folks but great for factory farming ops like Monsanto, ADM, Sodexo and Tyson to name a few.
HR 875 http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/F?c111:1:./temp/~c1112RD9bb:e11439:
Oregon Representatives and Senators are making an end run attack and back door prohibition attempt on Oregon Medical Marijuana patients.
Oregon State Representatives Maurer, Tomei, Thompson, Harker, Barker, Bentz, Berger, Bruun, Garrett, Gilliam, Gillman, Greenlick, Hanna, Jenson, Kotek, Krieger, Olson, Richardson, Schaufler, G Smith, Sprengger, Weidner, and Senators Burdick, Kruse, and Metsger have filed House Bill 3274 that would make the State of Oregon take responsibility for building and operating a facility to grow medical marijuana and provide it to patients through licensed pharmacies. It will charge a tax of $98.00 per ounce to patients obtaining it. It will disallow private grow operations.
Please, please, please - Yes, I'm begging you - contact your Representatives and Senators to oppose this sneaky, slimey attack on a program that only serves to offer some relief to persons suffering from debilitating illnesses and medical conditions.
With the 4 from CA, plus these 2 from UT, that makes a total of 6 (so far)... Two Local Utah Animal Rights Activists; William "BJ" Veihl and Alex Jason Hall, were arrested Thursday March 5th for an alleged raid of a South Jordan, UT mink farm in August, and the alleged attempted raid of a second mink farm in October. Both are being held in Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges of Animal Enterprise Terrorism...they had an arraignment hearing in which both pleaded "NOT GUILTY". They are scheduled for a Bail Hearing on Tuesday, as of right now they are both being held on Felony 3 retainers with NO BAIL.
At this time it looks like each could face up to 6 years in prison and $350,000 in fines if found guilty. Please send them a letter of support during these first very difficult days behind bars...
On Sunday March 15th, 2009, 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. people, activists, organizers, and others [were] gathering at Pioneer Court House Square at the corner of s.w. Yamhill and s.w. Broadway to educate, flyer, and protest about the 300,000 Canadian Baby Seals that are scheduled to be slaughtered in just 13 days. The Canadian Seal hunt is the Largest Slaughter of Marine Mammals on Earth. More than one million baby seals have been killed for their fur during the past 4 years. You can help Stop this atrocity.
On March 24th, 1989, the Exxon Valdez spilled millions of gallons of oil into Prince William Sound. This week an estimated 60,000+ gallons of oil spilled from a tanker off of the Queensland coast, spoiling beaches, and sickening wildlife.
The U.S. press is underreporting this incident. There is barely any mention of it save for Yahoo running AP wire. As long as GasVees rule the roads, Oildom's Grip On Power will remain Entrenched.
Declining Auto sales are good news, not bad. Auto workers must be retrained to produce EVs. Factories retooled.
All the brass from the ODFW, WDFW, and Army Corps of Engineers are out at the dam at this very moment, frantically attempting to do advance damage control over possible public reaction to the news that the trapping and killing program has begun. So far, at least two sea lions are in state custody. It could be more, since officials are trying to be very tight lipped about this. But they've admitted to two. Given that more than 50 percent of the sea lions in their custody died last year, BEFORE they had permission to actually kill them, things are not looking good.
Although the public has been rather apathetic over the potential killings of sea lions thus far, officials know very well that once the killing starts, public shock and outrage are almost a certainty. So, in order to protect their own images as guardians of public interests and state wildlife, officials from ODFW, WDFW, and Army Corps of Engineers have refused to allow any media access to the trapped animals. They have banned cameras from the trapping location, have refused to alert the media when trapping or shooting will occur, and have not been forthcoming with any information about animals in their custody. A journalist with a (cough) prominent local paper requested permission to see the trapped animals in their cages, and was denied this request.
And if you care about these sea lions, get up to the dam. You can contact In Defense of Animals at 503-249-9996 or the Sea Lion Defense Brigade at SeaLionDefenseBrigade@lists.riseup.net to co-ordinate with other people when you can be up near the dam to bear witness to what is happening to the sea lions. The killing can take place anywhere from the dam all the way down to Beacon Rock, so the more eyes and ears (and CAMERAS!) out there, the better.UPDATE: Sea Lion Dead!
On Friday, March 6, 2009, three activists filed a lawsuit against the City of Tacoma for false arrest and other violations committed by Tacoma police during an anti-war demonstration.
Elizabeth Rivera Goldstein, Thomas McCarthy, and Phan Nguyen were arrested under the pretext of wearing backpacks in a "no-backpack zone" at the Port of Tacoma in March 2007.The activists had been demonstrating against the Iraq "troop surge" and the expedited deployment of the 4th Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division to Iraq from Ft. Lewis. For two weeks in March 2007, the Port of Tacoma was the focal point for demonstrations against the deployment, as Stryker vehicles were being shipped out through the Port of Tacoma in advance of the 4th Brigade's actual deployment.
During this time, Tacoma police established a fenced-in "free speech zone" in the Port of Tacoma where demonstrators were compelled to congregate. Police set up random checkpoints to prevent the demonstrators from entering the "free speech zone" with backpacks and purses. The checkpoints appeared arbitrarily at varying locations and at various times throughout the protests. At times, the restrictions were arbitrarily applied to backpacks, purses, bags, buckets, boxes and even plastic water bottles. All restrictions were established without probable cause.
Thomas McCarthy was arrested on the night of March 9, 2007 while attempting to carry a backpack with food and medical supplies into the "free speech zone." Elizabeth Rivera Goldstein and Phan Nguyen were arrested along with six other demonstrators on March 11, 2007 for wearing backpacks into the "free speech zone." Goldstein's backpack contained a teddy bear, while Nguyen's "frontpack" contained a copy of the United States Constitution.

Two animal rights activists have been arrested under the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act in connection to the release of mink from Utah fur farms. The crimes are attributed to the Animal Liberation Front, which the FBI labels the "number one domestic terrorism threat."
William Viehl, 22, and Alex Hall, 20, were arrested in connection with the August, 2008 release of 300 minks from a South Jordan fur farm. It caused about $10,000 in damages. Spray painted slogans were found on the scene, including "No More Mink, No More Murder" and "ALF: We Are Watching." The two are also accused of attempting to damage another mink farm a few months later.
There are only 7 days left for you to comment on the proposal to double nuclear power and to dispose of more nuclear waste at Hanford. This is the Energy Department's Global Nuclear Energy Partnership Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (GNEP PEIS).
You remember, that plan to double nuclear power in the U.S. while adding dangerous waste to Hanford, putting nuclear trucks on the road, and risking nuclear weapons proliferation. This is your final opportunity to let USDOE know that it has completely failed to address the risks to the environment and human health from its plan.
