On Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at the State Capitol, the 8-month-long Campaign to Keep Oregon's Guard in Oregon held its official "launch event." Campaign organizers delivered the signatures of over 7000 Oregonians to officials along with a demand that our state militia not be sent to Iraq or Afghanistan.

The march began at around three with some people singing "we shall overcome". The crowd, of around three to five hundred men, women, children, and dogs marched unhindered to st. Mary's church through downtown portland. There were no counterprotestors. Chanting "Hey hey ho ho racism has got to go", "whos streets?, Our streets!", "this is what democracy looks like", "waht do we want? peace, when do we want it now!" and more the crowd marched triumphantly in the road with assistance from portland police. At st.mary's folks listened to speeches.it was refreshing to hear many speak of peace in the middle east, also one of MLK jr.'s dreams.
This is the last protest for "Impeachment of dick n george" outside of Earl Blumenauer's (House District 3 Rep)office on 1.15.09 in Portland Oregon The Last Day of Impeachment Vigil 1.5 years latter on Indy Media[.] This is a 34 minute video from the "Individuals For Justice" who have been demanding Impeachment hearings from Earl Blumenauer week after week.
This video protest is the last after doing this every Thursday for 2 hours for about 1.5 years[.] We even had a jailbird (fake)Bush join us for "the last one"[.] The rubber chickens were there (Reed & Pelosi) and quite a few "shoes to toss around"[.] The dozen citizens who were there you will recognize from previous videos...
Thanks to Portland Indy Media for helping spread the word of this weekly vigil for justice[.] Thanks to the Lone Vet for inspiring us and being willing to face off with Earl to get this vigil going
many protest israel, despite cold weather[:] the blisteringly cold weather did not stop several hundred protestors from gathering at pioneer square to oppose israel's unjust and illegal bombing of everyone and anything in gaza. the now usual two cops in bright yellow-green jackets stood on a corner looking extremely bored and unuseful, there were no counterprotestors, and the crowd was peaceful. amidst honks of support from passing cars at the rate of one every minute or less, the predominently young crowd (many under eighteen) of arabic descent gave interviews, sang songs, chanted defiantly, and posed for pictures on the day that, far away, israel announced its cease fire.
Video from recent Demonstration at Pioneer Square and surrounding vicinity in downtown Portland. About 20 minutes in length. I posted the audio earlier with the original report back, but the video is much more compelling. The video features an interview with local lawyer, Greg Kafoury and speakers from the Square speaking about the Divest and boycott Israel campaign.

Upwards of 45 people gathered across the street from the celebration of the re-opening of the Timberland Library to discuss what to do about the recent murders committed by police and how we can better show solidarity with the rebels in Greece and Oakland.
Those in the crowd looked around, reassured each other and then surged toward the police station, pelting it with stones and torches and then dispersed into the surrounding neighborhood.
3 people were arrested, 10 detained. One of the arrested was stopped with a loaded handgun pointing at his face. The 3 were later released on bail and had received misdemeanor charges. As for the people who ditched their bikes to get away, the police took them for "evidence" and they will most likely not be returned.
The demonstration started at 1 pm as always. The weather was on our side today, providing lots of sun and lots of people walking around SW portland. Throughout the day we had a lot of passing pedestrians stop and ask about why we were outside of Ungar Fur's (SW 12th and Yamhill). We would then give them literature about the fur industry and let them know about how many animals in the fur trade have their necks broken, have their skulls stomped on, and eventually, have their skin ripped off while they are still conscious and breathing. This disgusted the curious citizens of portland. Some of them even went in to tell Ungar Fur's what they thought about their business.
We are here to let the public know about how cruel and inhumane the fur industry is. we are also here to let Ungar Fur's know that we will never back down, until they stop the killing.
EVERY FUCKING FRIDAY. 1 pm. SW 12th & Yamhill.
Astoria, OR - Two days after staging a massive rally against LNG in Oregon, opponents of the Bradwood LNG terminal vowed to challenge FERC in federal court after the commission rejected their request for reconsideration of the terminal's approval.
Without discussion, the five-member commission dismissed challenges from the states of Oregon and Washington, as well as Columbia River Treaty Tribes and Columbia Riverkeeper.
Brett VandenHeuvel, executive director of Columbia Riverkeeper, blasted FERC's decision, "FERC's decision is clearly illegal and we will challenge it in federal court. Not only Riverkeeper and allies, but also the states of Oregon and Washington, and the Columbia River tribes all warned FERC that we would fight its illegal approval. I expect we will succeed on appeal."
By unanimous vote of the State Coordinating Committee, the Pacific Green Party condemns the criminal attack by the state of Israel on the trapped, nearly helpless population of Gaza. We call for a complete withdrawal of invading troops, end of the bombardment, and lifting of the siege that has created a humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

so i looked through my pictures from post-katrina new orleans in fall 2005, and found some shots of the informant brandon darby at a rally against police brutality in november 2005 in front of the 'justice center' in new orleans...including a couple of strangely ironic pictures showing brandon leaning against a national guard jeep with the US flag flying high above.
While filming under the bridge, the police attempt to block my view
(PS I was also informed a police sweep would be happening on Saturday night)
I went to see if the homeless people under the Burnside Bridge in Portland Oregon were getting hassled for being "homeless" I seen a man getting arrested so I started filming from 50 yards away. As I filmed one officer in a car started shining his spot light to block me from filming. What I don't like is I just won a tort claim against the city police for taking my camera and for ticketing me for "filming them" ... I won my case http://portland.indymedia.org/en/2008/12/383132.shtml ... I can film... anyone can film the police in public[.] I also won 100 bucks ... a small fee that I attached to say I want policy change not money. One month latter the police are trying to block me again. I don't like this nor think it is appropriate. In good faith I didn't sue them for big dollars ...and yet they still play their "cover up games" ... This begs the question just what "Are the Portland Police Trying to Hide?" This was filmed on 1.9.09. I was informed by people under the bridge that the police that arrested the man, said they would be back tomorrow 1.10.09 to "sweep the homeless" from under the bridge...

The Washington State Dept of Ecology has determined that GEO Group, owners and operators of a 1,030 bed detention center located on the Tacoma Tarpits, violated a restrictive covenant during their current expansion project. This is just one part of an overall strategy by a local Tacoma group (the Bill of Rights Defense Committee) to halt the expansion.
