These pictures are from Monday morning's protest at the Mexican consulate in Portland. The Friends of Brad Will in Portland, along with supporters of Oaxaca, gathered in front of the Mexican consulate to call for justice in the case of Brad Will's murder by Mexican paramilitaries, and justice for the people of Oaxaca.
This is the letter we submitted to the Mexican Consulate:
October 27, 2008
This letter is presented today on behalf of the Friends of Brad Will in Portland, Oregon.
Bradley Roland Will, a 36-year-old journalist-activist from New York, was killed on October 27th, 2006 while filming unrest in Oaxaca state, where protesters had been fighting for months to oust Gov. Ulises Ruiz for alleged electoral fraud. Will recorded video and wrote dispatches for indymedia.org
This "Winter Soldier" thing was modeled after a tool developed during the rise of the Vietnam protests of the 60s/ 70s. When will this stuff die? It seems a heaviness of heart is generated when we step onto the go-back-machine, i.e. the latest that I'm aware of -- Recreate 68 - yawn, mumble grumble.
Contrary to my preconceptions about Winter Soldier, it is a beyond profound movement. This is where the resistance resides, an invisible undercurrent of humans of all kinds infecting this society with slow intensity. The first Neo-Winter-Soldier event took place in Silver Spring, Maryland, March 13 to March 16, 2008, timed to highlight the 5th anniversary of the 2003 invasion.
Some 200/300 people showed up. Many elderly, a definite lack in youth presence. First panel - on stage - there we saw youth.
Amongst the shattered humans on that panel, nine men, as different from one another as can be imagined - a display of the beauty of humanity right there. Each brought their story, their confessions, their way of talking, seeing, feeling - straight shooters. Nothing but being there, in the flesh, can enable a person to grasp the enormity of the all-encompassing spectacle of war; we gotta own it, our wars. Radio, television, any intermediary form is an obstruction to the process of learning with something like this.
Background, I believe that all but one fellow on the panel was seventeen or eighteen years of age when they joined the services, including National Guard. Below, I've provided a few bits, from just a few people.
Many people have had tragic stories when they have taken their beloved pets to Dr. Daniel Koller at Companion Pet Clinic on 3150 NE 82nd Avenue. We have heard a lot of these stories right here on Indymedia. This is an update for all the people who have wished Daniel "God" Koller would get his license revoked. Yes, he legally changed his middle name to God. This is also to inform the public about Dr. Daniel Koller and Companion Pet Clinic on 82nd ave. Also, Daniel Koller is not the only veterinarian that can not be trusted with an animal. When you take your pet to the vet, make sure you have done some reseach on the vet and to also be with your pet AT ALL TIMES! If they won't let you go in the back room with your pet, be suspicious and take the animal somewhere else.
Daniel G. Koller, a licensed attorney in the state of California, who owns and operates Companion Pet Clinic on Northeast 82nd ave has had his Veterinarian license suspended by the Oregon Veterinary Board which also plans to take away his license for good. Daniel Koller has a long history of drug abuse, violating state laws, and abusing/killing animals which dates back to 1977.
Photos from Irag were on Display and still are
I was able to film a 20 min interview with war resister Camilo Mejia
This is part 1 of 2 videos
In this clip (#1) Camilo talks about his life and activism with war resisting
There is also a gallery reception going on that is an exhibit of pictures from Iraq and of soldiers who were there or still are.
Camilo Mejia, a National Guard staff sergeant who after fighting for five months in Iraq, became the first combat soldier to refuse to go back to Iraq. He spent 9 months in prison for resisting. He now serves as Chair of the Board of Iraq Veterans Against the War and is the author of Road from ar Ramadi. He is now a IVAW activist and strong advocate for peace.
Operation Bite Back II: 1500 More Captive Mink Released
Raid on Oregon Fur Farm by Animal Liberationists is Seventh Since April
Astoria, Oregon - According to a communique received by the North American Animal Liberation Press Office, 1500 captive mink were released last night from a fur farm on Simonsen Road in Astoria, Oregon. The raid is the third in Oregon this year, and the seventh in North America this season. Together with raids in Washington, Utah and Canada reported since April, thousands of captive wild animals have been given the chance for freedom this year from profit-hungry breeders.
The communique reads, in part:
"About 1,500 mink were released from their cages with at least 200 of these being breeding stock. The fact that there is no fence around this farm should help ease their escape. I would like to close by offering apiece of advice to the owners of this farm, to the owners of the other farms in the Astoria, OR area (it was simply by luck of the draw that your farms weren't chosen), and to ALL fur farmers: find a new profession. fur farmers are a dying breed. get out before you are forced out. "your laws will have no meaning past the setting of the sun."
Imprisoned in cages for life, fur-bearing animals are forced to endure intensive confinement, compared to the miles of territory these animals would enjoy in the wild - their natural state. The natural instincts of these captive animals are completely frustrated; self-mutilation, sickness, infection, poor sanitation and the sheer stress of confinement lead animals to premature death. When they survive, animals of sufficient size are killed by anal electrocution or gassing, then skinned. Whereas reports from the fur industry have surfaced that liberations were harmful to the animals, the Animal Liberation Front (ALF) and other organizations have a long history of successfully releasing animals into the wild. In addition to liberating the wild animals destined for a certain, painful and agonizing death, another goal of liberationists is to cause economic damage to fur farms; dozens of fur farming operations have seen economic ruin since "Operation Bite Back" began by the ALF in the 1990s.
Tre is in Herlong, CA, where he is likely going to be until at least May, 2009. Tre has transitioned from Oregon and is in the Sierra highlands of northern California, 50 miles northwest of Reno, NV, and about 30 miles southeast of Susanville, CA.
Herlong is located at the extreme Eastern edge of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range in the southeastern region of Honey Lake Valley. Herlong resides in Lassen County, which is one of the last counties in the west that is still considered "open range" land, so cattle are known to graze the community. Tre can have up to 5 adult visitors at one time. Feel free to make travel plans to visit Tre and some of the gorgeous California Sierras.
On October 9, 2008, the BLM released its Final Environmental Impact Statement for the Western Oregon Plan Revisions (WOPR). Since the Bush administration first announced it would revise the plans for 2.6 million acres of Bureau of Land Management forests in western Oregon, reactions have been fairly constant: the timber industry loves it, and everyone else hates it.
The Bush Land Management Legacy
When the BLM released the WOPR draft plan in 2007, 30,000 members of the public commented; over 90% asked the BLM to save the remaining older forests, protect clean drinking water, and concentrate forest management on restoration and thinning small trees to protect communities from wildfire. The BLM ignored this common ground, common sense approach to forest management.
More of the Same
The final plan will mirror the draft in most regards. It will: 1) remove BLM forests from the scientific framework of the Northwest Forest Plan; 2) ramp up clearcut logging across hundreds of thousands of acres; 3) remove streamside buffers that protect clean water and fish; and 4) log some of the last remaining older forests in western Oregon.
By The Numbers
The WOPR will increase logging by nearly 400% compared to current logging levels; get over 70% of the timber volume from clearcutting; shrink streamside reserves by 50%; add 180 million tons more carbon to the atmosphere compared to no logging (equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions from 1 million cars driven for 132 years) and result in 1,300 miles of new roads.

About a month and a half ago, I was sitting on a bench inside Powell's without my shoes on, reading a book. A female security guard came up to me and asked me to put my shoes back on, which I did. Several days later, I was reading at Powell's, again with my shoes off, and the same security guard approached me and explained the store's policy regarding shoes. I said I understood, and put my shoes back on. I thought the whole issue was settled, and everything was fine, until my most recent encounter with this same security guard.
On Wednesday, October 8th, at around 5:15 p.m., I was shopping for some books and needed to use the rest room. When I went into the rest room, that same security guard was also in the bathroom. Since I had my shoes on, I didn't think anything of it, and figured she would leave the rest room after she finished her business. I went into a stall, took my coat off, and used the toilet. Personally, when I use the toilet, I have a harder time going when I have my shoes on. I must take them off to concentrate. Since I was in a bathroom stall doing something so personal, I didn't think that taking my shoes off, while sitting on the toilet defecating, broke Powell's policy of having to wear shoes in the store. I put my shoes back on after I finished, flushed the toilet, picked up my coat and bag, and exited the stall. When I walked out of the stall, the security guard was standing outside of my stall, staring at me, with another Powell's employee standing next to her.
Odds are you will never read this. Odds are you are not someone who reads the animal rights section of IndyMedia. Perhaps some dream spirit will whisper into your ear as you sleep tonight, "shame on you." Perhaps you will wake with a twinge of guilt, and perhaps you will never repeat your cruel act.
About a month ago you abandoned two juvenile, unneutered male cats at the back of the apartment complex I live in. Either you moved away and left them, or you crept your car along the dirt road behind my place and shoved two confused and frightened youngsters out the door. The method doesn't matter. You abandoned them. You shoved your responsibility out the door and went on with your life.
Another corrupt Clackamas County Deputy is allowed to resign, amid allegations of professional misconduct. Clackamas County DA and CCSO sweep it under the rug, as usual. Meanwhile, not a word - nay, nary even a mention - of Sandy PD's own Bill Bergin and his involvement in the whole sordid affair. Business as usual up here on the mountain.
*SCAM WARNING!!* Rental-Data Bureau's (aka RDB, rental-data.com) Predatory Practices
If you are seeking rental property in the Portland Metro area you may have run across their NUMEROUS "Call RDB" house listing ads online. The ads often list enticingly low prices in attractive areas, yet NEVER offer an address or a photo.
Avoid these people and their dubious 'service' like the plague on free society they are. They republish a database of freely obtained house listings from off the net and charge RENTERS $35 to see their substandard imageless database. They illegitimately spam the free classified sites with their 'listings' which are in reality only ads for their website 'service'. They use phony bait and switch tactics by listing enticing properties in their ads that do not exist in the database once you become a member.
Here is an 82 minute video from Eyes Wide Open Holiday Park[.] Filmed in Portland Oregon on Sept 20 2008[.] The boots and shoes on display were to signify the people who have died in the Iraq war[.]
Eyes Wide Open Holiday Park 2008 [-] I went to this event and was able to film a lot of the ceremony and the exhibit. There were boots that were from Oregon US soldier who have died in this illegal occupation. There were boots form Oregon contractors who also have died in Iraq. And there were shoe that represented all the Iraqi's that have lost their lives for this occupation. There was a very long row of prayer flags that was on display as well, each containing a message or a name of a solider who has lost his life.
The vigil on Thursdays outside a local congress office continues in this video that was filmed on 10.2.08

Hands Across the Columbia
Grant is currently serving a 12 year sentence for ELF related actions. Please take a moment to write him a letter and show this Brother he is nor forgotten.
In a recent letter from Eco Political Prisoner Grant Barnes he made a few requests. He says in part "Challenging reading material is hard to get here but More then anything I enjoy correspondence.... please feel free to pass my address around." I get the impression from his letters that mail for him is pretty hit or miss. It would do a lot to lift his spirits if folks would write him. For more info on Grant Barnes see www.ecoprisoners.org .
Grants received books from books to prisoners groups in the past and has gotten zines from South Chicago ABC as well but hasn't gotten anything in a couple months.

Update on Eric's situation in Victorville, and a letter from Eric
Our apologies for taking so long to get this to you...
First of all, we would like to thank everyone who helped us with the tour during the past month. It was an amazing success, and it would not have been possible without all of your support. Finally getting to meet so many folks who have been working for Eric these past few years was inspiring and rejuvenating in more ways than you know. Our deepest, most heartfelt thanks to all of you.
For those of you who don't already know, we learned earlier this month that Eric received an "infraction" for "unpermitted contact with the media." This apparently stems from a phone call Eric made to his family's home during which he spoke with a journalist who was at the house. Leaving aside the inherent absurdity of the charge itself, the ramifications for Eric have been quite real. His phone and email access were immediately cut off, leaving him with no real ties to the outside world other than letters (which can sometimes take weeks to reach their destination) and visits. This has been difficult for him and his loved ones, to say the least. Unfortunately, he will be without phone and email indefinitely. It could take weeks for the issue to be resolved, and even afterwards there is no guarantee that he will regain access to either of these "privileges." We will keep you updated as things progress.
he weekly vigil continues outside House District 3 Portland Office on Thursdays at high noon till two. Here is a video-report back from 9.25.08. This 3 part video clip is primarily with Barbara who gives us some updates on her activism concerning the Democratic movement for Impeachment and what she has been involved with locally and nationally. She explains Article 5 and the failure of the DNC to pursue justice. This 3 part [..] video set was filmed outside Earl Blumenauer's Portland Oregon Office. The (on-going-over one year) Vigil is to bring attention to the need for justice and accountability and to encourage Earl Blumenauer to ask for hearings on Impeachment.
The ride started out on Red Square at the Evergreen State College at 5:00pm with many people joining in along the way. The mass shouted and cheered as they drove by, feeling the power they shared together. Many people were vocally opposed to the existence of cars and shouted insults and other words of anger at SUV's and expensive looking cars for the poison they spew and the lives they take. When the yuppies yelled back, some even pretended to shoot them.
