We will return to the Earlman's office this Thursday because talk is cheap and action is needed. Our Congressman must get in front of this parade on accountability or be run over by it. People are leaving the Democratic Party because we see no action and the criminals in the White House will walk in January 09.
Registration of new democrats is up, but by 2010 that will all be gone. Pelosi and her gang will damage the party to such an extent that it will take years to recover. The Democratic Party is dying and may be dead.
In the face of growing concern over the use of tasers and other so-called "less lethal weapons," police officers and weapons industry shills have been conducting what can only be described as one of the strangest PR campaigns ever mounted. They have been "demonstrating" tasers by shooting them at each other, and at hapless volunteers in incongruous settings during family-friendly public gatherings. The message is supposed to be simple and easily digested: "See? Tasers can be fun." One such demonstration took place at the Columbia County Fair over the weekend. It was a bizarre spectacle that surely must be reminiscent of what Rome was like shortly before it fell.
ast Saturday night saw another round of demonstrations in front of Bluehour restaurant downtown. About 12 animal advocates gathered to educate the public and restaurant patrons about the inherent cruelty in foie gras production.
Bluehour serves foie gras, which is literally the diseased livers of ducks and geese who have been force-fed with metal tubes rammed down their throats. The mortality rate on foie gras farms is about 20 times that of other duck farms. The birds are force-fed such huge amounts of food that they cannot walk. Their necks are torn by the metal tubes. The process is so cruel that it has been banned in at least 14 countries, including the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
This marks the one solid year of weekly protesting for accountability and justice outside (and inside) our Congressman's Earl Blumenauer's office
This skit pokes fun at the obvious facts that the USA <citizens> accept Bush's tolerance and accept that Bush and the Democrat-controlled-Congress will allow torture and human right lawbreaking to continue. The skit also pokes fun at the House Rep in Dist #3 here in Oregon who finds it not illegal or morally wrong to let the Bush administration continue doing what ever they want <sic> in-spite of written laws and our Constitution of the United States?
A group of PacifiCorps California electric customers has asked the California Public Utilities Commission to examine the company's spending to relicense four Klamath River dams and powerhouses. The customers say the company has already spent more than $50 million on aging facilities which harm the Klamath River and its salmon. The PUCs are charged with protecting the interests of customers - called "ratepayers" in PUC parlance.
Some Californians who get their electricity from Portland-based PacifiCorp want the California Public Utilities Commission to review PacifiCorp's spending on its Klamath River dams and to provide an expert, independent assessment of what is best for the ratepayers.
Friends, On Monday, July 14, Daniel appeared in federal court in the Western District of Wisconsin (Madison) before Judge Barbara Crabb and was found in civil contempt for his refusal to answer questions before a grand jury.
Since he is already in custody for his existing prison sentence, this means that his clock of time being served has stopped. An appeal has been filed by his lawyer to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, as well as a motion for bail (in his case since he wouldn't be released, to start his federal time moving forward again). Right now, until the grand jury is dismissed or other agreements are made within that case and things are resolved, his time will not count as time served. It is unknown whether he will remain in county jail for the full extension of this period.
So, for now, please continue to write to Daniel with positive thoughts, funny stories, and well wishes, as this has been a particularly stressful and difficult time. Letters are key to time passing quickly inside.
Despite overwhelming public opposition in Jackson County Oregon to the proposed LNG pipeline beginning in Coos Bay, OR and reaching Malin (near Klamath Falls, OR), the federal government continues to pressure local residents into accepting an pipline through their backyards..
It's been confirmed that Eagle Asset Management/Raymond James Financial sold their shares in HLS. After being made aware of the cruelty inside HLS, through protests in London and in the USA. Along with polite emails from across the world. Eagle Asset Management/Raymond James have sold their half a million shares in LSR on 15th July, we thank them for taking an ethical stance on this and to stop dealing with HLS/LSR. Thank you for your support!
Thank you! To the anonymous ninjas, Us here at the Pitch Pipe Infoshop would like to thank you from the very bottom of our hearts for removing the surveillance camera that was pointed at our house. You are beautiful and amazing, whoever you are. We are all extremely grateful for your vigilance in defending our community from the onslaught of the police state.
The government wants us all under their thumbs. They want all of us to be in our right place; going to work, being trapped in school, rotting in prison, doing nothing that they do not want us to do. We are forbidden from living. The government wants to render us into soulless, empty shells, acting as nothing more than carriers for capital and resources. Our forests are as expendable as we are to them. And so that none their slaves may rebel, they cover our streets with cameras and police cruisers. They wish to destroy every free space still in existence. They wish to see everything so that they may stop what is most dangerous to them: LIFE.
Whoever destroyed the camera destroyed a small piece of the government's grand design for us. They took a swing at the panopticon and made off with one of its eyes. Let there be thousands more of these acts. Together, let's smash their horrible machine to pieces.
I was on my way into work today when I came across this at N. Flint and N. Broadway at 9:05am: A white car dangerously and illegally parked as the bike lane starts. As I rode my bicycle by the car I noticed a man in the car with a camera on the dash pointed at the stop sign. I went on to the sidewalk and noticed that he was taking pictures of bicycles and the stop sign. He also had a laptop propped up in the passenger seat and was typing on it.
I do question the validity of the data collected by the press as they very rarely share their mythology. What I find most appalling is that from my perception KPAM was willing to breaking the law in order to collect data on others breaking the law.
The reason that it is illegal to park the KPAM reporter and car was, is so that people can get to the bike lane to navigate this dangerous intersection.
This morning, over 20 people opposed to the construction of Interstate 69 shut down work at the Haubstadt Asphalt Yard belonging to Gohmann Asphalt & Construction, Inc. Five of the opponents locked themselves together in a circle at the yard's gate, accompanied by five others dedicated to keeping them as comfortable as possible in the face of summer heat and the threat of police violence. With construction slated to begin this week, opponents are demanding that Gohmann immediately drop their contract for work on I-69. Additionally they demand that Gohmann and their accomplices, Riverton Trucking, Inc., drop a spurious civil suit brought against the only I-69 opponent arrested at a previous lock-down at Gohmann Asphalt's Haubstadt facility.
Gohmann A&C is the primary contractor with the Indiana Department of Transportation for the construction of the first 1.77 miles of Section 1 of the proposed highway from Evansville to Indianapolis. Several weeks prior, five opponents chained themselves to a truck leaving Haubstadt Asphalt Yard belonging to Gohmann Asphalt & Construction, Inc.. The five, accompanied by twenty five supporters, demanded that Gohmann drop their contract with INDOT or face continued opposition and work stoppages. Until Gohmann drops its contract, opponents will continue to hold them accountable for the evictions of farmers, the disruption of communities, and the devastation of the environment caused by I-69.
I spent the afternoon at the IVAW NW Winter Soldier event and made a half dozen video clips of that days events[.] Lots of veterans and independent media and a few hundred people in the audience[.] It was held in Seattle Washington on a Sunday afternoon[.] The protest that followed the testimonies, was through the streets of downtown[.] The forum was of a variety of people from veterans to activists to a mother of a lady soldier who was assaulted by a fellow
We're now witness to the largest wave of human migration the planet has ever seen. Driven by a new, truly international form of capitalism, human populations are alternately violently displaced, economically pressured, invited, coerced into relocation across the globe by civil wars, low intensity wars, high intensity wars, famines, droughts, hurricanes, floods, trade policies, austerity, other countless other economic and environmental catastrophies. This is globalized capitalism. We live in a time of threatened ecological collapse and the beginnings of capitalism's greatest tragedy-the possibility of a human created mass die-off of mamallian and other forms of life.
Regarding Ashland's 4th of July Parade which is run by the Chamber of Commerce, here is the bottom line: "The ACLU and the SOJWJ, therefore, respectfully demand that, first, the Chamber alter its fee structure so as not to discriminate based on the content of entrants' message, and second, the Chamber refund the additional payment of $70 paid by SOJwJ for the 2007 Ashland Fourth of July Parade. If the Chamber fails to do both of these things, the ACLU of Oregon and SOJwJ are prepared to file a lawsuit to obtain this relief, plus the recovery of reasonable attorney fees."
Only yesterday did I - one of the three arrestees from the May 30th Taser Incident - finally get to read the police reports on the incident. I have to admit, if I had not been there and witnessed things with my own eyes, the police reports would seem very compelling. However, because I was there, I notice clear falsehoods, misleading statements, and plenty of probably honest mistakes in the reports. In this letter I will address several key falsehoods/mistakes. I will begin with the biggest shocker: THE KEY ROLE PLAYED BY HOMELAND SECURITY in not only my arrest, but in instigating the entire ugly affair. I will point out several verifiable falsehoods in their reports.
It was week 50 for the Impeachment Vigil It was also the Funeral for the fourth Amendment
A ceremony was held outside Earl Blumenauer's Office and it proceeded to the Federal Building in downtown Portland Oregon. This event was for FISA spying immunities and permission given to the president to spy on citizens of the US with no warrants or respect to the 4th.
So, I am riding my bicycle home from work on the afternoon of June 30th, 2008 through Waterfront Park when I hear the tell tale signals that the pedestrian path on the lower Steel Bridge is raising. Instead of sitting in the sun waiting for the barge to pass I stop short of the bridge to stand under the shade of a tree. This is when I notice about 50 feet away two uniformed officers talking to an black couple laying down in the park. I look to see what is going on as it is very strange how the officers are treating them and this is when I identified Ofc Reisten from the Joe Anybody? video in May. [ Read More ]
Out on the edge of Cascadia, there is a pirate raft being built from recycled material, that will ferry people up and down the Columbia. There's an eco village with a composting toilet and a kite powered water pump. There's a thrift shop/ media center/ potlatch. And if you're looking to start a new life, there's an open invitation to you:
Get thee out to Ilwaco.
There, the Nutrinos and friends are laying the groundwork for a community on the water, centered around activism, anti capitalism, egalitarianism, hard work, and fun. Lots and lots of fun.
The Portland Police Bureau has continued its criminalization of houselessness, by sweeping 50 folks from under and atop the Burnside Bridge on 6/24, and sweeping almost 50 more folks from the Hawthorne and Morrison Bridges the following night. Their possessions were confiscated and thrown away. The Portland Coalition Against Poverty is hosting a demonstration to demand an immediate end to police harassment of poor and houseless people. It is on Wednesday, July 9th, at 5pm, in the North Park Blocks.
Rising Moon Organics (RMO) has served the finest ravioli and desserts at the Oregon Country Fair (OCF) since 1992. RMO was formerly one of many food booths producing mountains of trash over the 3 day festival, but changed their approach in 1993 to pursue a trash-free mission.
As a result, RMO has saved over 100,000 plates, cups and forks from going to the landfill. RMO marked its 15th year at the Oregon Country Fair in 2006, by becoming a not-for-profit booth donating all profits to local organizations.
RMO has been instrumental in creating a sustainable fair with less trash that supports the OCF in furthering its trash-free mission. The process began in collaboration with the Fern Ridge School District to wash most durables off site. And that was just the beginning for greening the practices of feeding thousands of hungry fair goers.
