Clear Channel says NO! to the Iraqi Children's Campaign
The Iraqi Children's campaign efforts to put up a prominent billboard in the Portland Metro area ran into a roadblock last week when Clear Channel refused to allow the billboard. The proposed billboard is on our website and features a frightened Iraqi child with the words, "Every child matters!" www.iraqichildrenscampaign.org

This billboard is tasteful and simply shows a frightened iraqi child and conveys the message that every child matters regardless of their nation of origin. But Clear channel has decided that the people of Portland don't need to be reminded of the pain and suffering of children in their name. They claim that the design is "not right for the market at this time" which is of course utterly absurd.

I-69 Resistance and Repression Round-up
Solidarity torch march Indiana June 24- Resistance to I-69 has been rapidly heating up in the past month. While the first protest camp set up was quietly evicted in early May, a tree-sit and occupation created in the path of a proposed onramp later that month lasted five weeks.

During that time, participants also built an elaborate ground camp, while simultaneously carrying on intensive organizing with local families threated by the road, culminating in a community picnic in Oakland City attended jointly by landowners and eco-activists. Exciting demonstrations and solidarity actions happened throughout the month - in Bloomington, Louisville, Maryland, and beyond.

Force-Fed Ducks, Ten-01 Sucks: Foie Gras Protest Report
On Friday night, June 20, a group of about a dozen protesters headed to the restaurant Ten-01, at 1001 NW Couch. The owner of this restaurant (who ironically also owns the veg restaurant Nutshell) had previously told protesters in person that he would take foie gras off the menu and never serve it again - at which point an earlier protest was cancelled, and protesters with signs in hand walked away from the establishment. However, he has once again put it on the menu.

To produce foie gras (fatty liver) ducks and geese are force-fed two to three times per day using metal pipes shoved down their throats. Their throats and esophagus' are scratched and wounded with the insertion and removal of the pipes, sometimes causing mortal infections... Some animals are too sick to even stand. The production of foie gras is banned in many places, including the UK, Italy, Norway, Switzerland, Israel, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Argentina, on grounds of animal cruelty. For more information and video, see http://www.goveg.com/feat/foie/

Managers and employees at Ten-01 taunted us, saying they would never take foie gras off the menu, and that we were only letting potential customers know that foie gras was served there, thus helping their business. However, we saw a number of parties turn away and go elsewhere, once they were shown that foie gras is served at Ten-01. The valet told us that business was slower than usual... At one point an Elmer Fudd looking dude who identified himself as "block security" and was wearing an "official t-shirt" told us that we had to move on.... Fortunately, what remains of the First Amendment dictates that it is legal to peacefully protest. Message to Ten-01: you do not in fact own the public sidewalk.

Joe Anybody Interviews Police Taser Victim - Assault Victim from The City of Roses
Innocent ly Assaulted Tasered Arrested in the City of Roses I interviewed Clifton in the neighborhood near where he was assaulted on Saturday 6-12-08. He told me on camera how he was assaulted by two assholes coming out of a bar on SE 48 and Belmont street here in Portland Oregon around 7pm at night. This happened as he was waiting for a bus to go to work on an evening shift...the job he lost due to be taken to jail and missing work.

Hear Mr Brooks tell "his version" of how he lost his job due to being on city street in Portland waiting for his bus to go to work and then being jumped by two drunks ... and if thats not enough having the portland police come long and shock the shit out of him and take him off to jail? Briana Waters Sentenced
injustice3 Briana Waters was sentenced to six years in prison and three years probation. She did receive the terrorism enhancement. The judge recommended her to Dublin. Judge denied appeal bond and also the ability to self surrender.

Judge Burgess commented on the over 250 letters he received on Briana's behalf. Neil Fox, Ms. Waters' attorney, argued that the average of both Washington and Oregon cases was one and a half years per arson. Mr. Fox argued for five years with serving one and half suspending three and a half. The prosecution argued for ten years.

Briana Waters spoke eloquently today on her behalf. There were a dozen supporters for Briana Waters in the court room.

Patrons Gone Wild
Foie Gras Makes Me Sick Some patrons of Bluehour restaurant are really rude and aggressive towards protesters, who are chanting and holding signs and talking with people on the sidewalk about he reality of factory farming ducks and geese for "foie gras." Not only did the compassiuonae protesters have to put up with an over tanned man in a tight white tee-shirt questioning their veganism for a drunken hour (especially their shoes, which he thought were made of dead animals, even after the vegan protesters assured him about 10 times that they were vegan), but more people threw water on the protesters. Well, one protester threw water back onto the water throwing Bluehour patron...

Briana Waters Sentencing June 19
Briana is scheduled to be sentenced June 19 at 9 am at the federal courthouse at 1717 Pacific Ave. in Tacoma. Briana Waters trial began on Monday, February 11, 2008, at 1717 Pacific Ave, Tacoma. The trial ended on March 6 with Brianna being found guilty on two counts of arson. She is scheduled to be sentenced June 19 at 9 am.

Hike the Pipe! This weekend - June 14/15
hike the pipe Hike the Pipe is a Bark event to raise awareness of the threats to old-growth forests and some of our most scenic rivers and hiking trails by the controversial liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals and pipelines proposed for Oregon. We invite you, your family and your friends to join us along a segment of the proposed 40-mile pipeline route through Mt. Hood National Forest.

Bark, the watchdog group of Mt. Hood forests, announces Hike the Pipe, an event to raise awareness of the threats to Oregon's old-growth forests, scenic rivers, and hiking trails by the proposed pipeline connecting to liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals on the coast.
Across western Oregon citizens are uniting against building a 210-mile pipeline through public and private lands. Palomar, a subsidiary of Northwest Natural and TransCanada has proposed a pipeline route that crosses over steep slopes and will require miles of new road-building, adding to the 4,000 miles of crumbling roads already threatening Mt. Hood's forests.

A group of trained "groundtruthers" will be surveying the proposed route, including crossing several major creek and riverways. The camp-out site will be near Timothy Lake.

Tacoma: Activist Being Held By ICE
Jonah has been in Northwest Detention Center for about a week and a half now. During this time, he has been buying overpriced ramen noodles and trading meat for small cups full of green beans at meals. He has sent in requests for vegan food several times and they have all been denied. Today he's starting hunger strike. He's already feeling weak from lack of nutrition, so please help by calling GEO at 253 396 1611 and telling them to feed him good food!! You'll need his A# - 88737285 and his full name - Jose Alberto Larrama Portillo.

Also, he needs supporters from all over to write letters - On a computer or typewriter, not hand written - to the judge. In these letters you should include who you are, what your citizenship status is, your contact info, how long you have known Jonah and how much he rules.. Include things about how he feeds the hungry and teaches you new tricks and is ridiculously helpful and selfless with everyone. You need to write them to "Honorary Immigration Judge." Sounds silly, I know. "Dear Honorary Immigration Judge," And send them to him. Three copies.

And please keep sending letters of support.

Cyclist Tased tonight, 9:30ish, on SE 7th
My friend just called saying that she was stopped by a copcar for riding her bike without lights. She was pulled over around SE 7th and Morrison. As they were writing her a ticket another biker was biking North on 7th. They used him as an example how bikers cannot be seen without lights. So the cops told the other cyclist to stop and when he did not stop quickly enough/was confused why they were telling him to stop, they ran after him, pulled him off his bike, threw him against a nearby wall and tased him multiple times. When my friend called I could hear him screaming in the background and the cops yelling at him.

One commenter says: "I'm pretty sure I heard somebody talking about this experience on the bus late this evening, at least it was somebody with a similar story, he was like talking to somebody on a cell phone or something & said the paramedics had a hell of a time carving the taser barb out of his chest. Said he was charged with assaulting an officer for touching the motherfucker's boot while he was writhing around on the ground screaming. Sounded like a really fucked up event, yet another example of how tasers are just torture toys for sadists.."

Utter Injustice - Police do NOTHING!
PDX PD This past Saterday on June 7th 2008 at [about] 9:40pm i was about
to board the #15 bus at SE 34th & Belmont, on my way to work. Before i
can make it on the bus, i get jumped by these two drunken a**holes, coming out of some sports bar from across the street! I'm
trying to fight these two off, defending myself, with dozens of people
everywhere [including the bus' occupants]. They push me into a storefront
window, smashing it. I suffer a laceration on my lip & left ear. When
the two take off, heading east towards 39th., i call 911. Many people,
including the bus driver call 911. I'm on my cellphone talking to the
dispatcher, telling her what just happened to me.

I stay on the scene, waiting for the police to arrive. As soon as
they do, i approach them. But within seconds they ARREST ME! They force me
to the ground, i'm completely subdued & they TASER ME!!!

KPTV: Blatant, pathetic, totally transparent corporate media propaganda
Seize the Tower - Uproot Monstrous Media KPTV just ran a report on PADL's protests against Ungar furs. It was the most pathetic piece of yellow journalism I've seen since Kyle Iboshi uttered the words, "Was Fouad Kaady on drugs?" The premise of the story was that PADL, "unlike In Defense of Animals," has a stated goal of shutting down Ungar furs. (IDA, you will remember, carefully stated their goal in the Schumacher's campaign as being to educate the public, not to shut down Schumacher's. This was a very useful tactical move, if you ask me. To express the desire to actually shut down the business would have triggered any number of legal repercussions, which might have stopped the demonstrations. Instead, the public became educated to the horrific realities of the fur trade, elected not to shop at Schumacher's, and the end result: Schumacher's shut down.)(And, to make clear a point that KPTV seems not to have understood, the Schumacher campaign was a grassroots response to the fur trade, engaged in by many different people, and was not just IDA.)

Michigan ELF Informant Recorded Conversations with Activists
The North American Earth Liberation Prisoners Support Network has posted new information on Frank Ambrose's cooperation with the federal government in a series of cases pertaining to Earth Liberation Front (ELF) actions in Michigan. As part of his guilty plea, Ambrose agreed to provide information on actions of the Earth Liberation Front (ELF). Disturbingly, at various points in affidavits in the case Ambrose is singled out by the government for involvement in legal activities.

The Earth Liberation Prisoners Support Network is reporting that Ambrose has produced countless hours of recordings with other activists in the year before his indictment:

Ungar Furs Shut Down
Ungar Furs Shut Down for Memorial Day, but Protesters Did Not
With Ungar Furs shut down for Memorial Day, protesters used the Saturday morning regular protest time to write educational messages on the sidewalk in chalk. Several protesters gathered to continue the presence in front of the store, which sells the pelts of animals who have had their necks broken, were gassed to death or anally electrocuted in the name of vanity.

The animals used for Ungar's unethical products do not get holidays off, and Ungar Furs will not get any Saturdays off. Remarkably, the fact that the store was closed did not seem to make any difference in their daily sales, as roughly the same number of customers approached the store as when the store is open: 0.

Come help Ungar Furs make the responsible decision that it's time to retire:
