The picket is part of the Solidarity Network's current campaign, Home Forward is Home Backward ( http://www.HomeForwardisHomeBackward.org), which is fighting to stop Home Forward from unfairly evicting the Frosts from their apartment in the Humboldt Gardens. This week's picket is one in a series of actions designed to tell Home Forward's management' that their residents and the community at-large will not accept mistreatment and retaliatory evictions.
Campaign volunteers, alongside individual community members, have been working overtime - on their own time - since the Frosts were given a ninety-day eviction notice in January. This is the third consecutive weekly picket at the downtown offices, and just one of many escalating actions that will be taken until Home Forward withdraws the eviction and allows the Frosts to remain in their apartment and/or provides them alternative suitable Section 8-compliant housing.[...] Portland Solidarity Network - Home Forward is Home Backward (503) 446-6065 portlandsolidaritynetwork@gmail.com

This 209 mile energy transmission corridor spans from Boardman, Oregon to the Salem area, and traverses private land as well as both the Willamette and Mt Hood National Forests. Judge j. bybee came to Portland and we were there to meet him. We, of noble intentions were there, we stood for an hour starting about 0800 and left after court started. Malcolm flew his VFP flag with the stars and stripes and we told our story of the "Bug" Judge to be repeated during the time he is in Portland, March 5-9. You all know of the water boarding, the way he got his name by saying it is ok and legal for the President to order torture but you must not call it torture. We will be there tomorrow at 1130-1:00 PM, stop by for a bit to join byee for lunch. We did not see him today, he is hiding from us---fits with his personality of cowardice. We will decided each day what time we will take up our watch the next, I will try to get word out to you each day. This person of shame who calls himself j. bybee, we call "The Monster of the Desert." Come join us or just stop to say hello. http://www.individualsforjustice.com

With input from many groups including Common Cause Oregon, Occupy Portland, Move to Amend, and Portland Alliance from Democracy, the resolution outlines key legal points and highlights public opposition to Citizens United
This Thursday (January 12) at 2:00 pm the Portland City Council will be voting on a resolution urging the Oregon congressional delegation to amend the U.S. Constitution to address corporate personhood and reverse the Citizens United decision. read it here
March & Rally more info: National Association of Letter Carriers 82<, 503-493-5903 [ Related: Going Postal: What kind of nation won't fund a post office? ]
In addition to supporting the revised resolution, we will also call on the city council to refer to Portland's voters a ballot measure, so we can all give voice to our desire that the constitution must be amended to end corporate personhood and the money is not speech. We want them to refer to the voters language very similar to that which was presented to the voters in Madison, WI, and Boulder CO and Missoula MT and approved in all three overwhelmingly. If you can't be at City Hall on Jan 4, you can still join us via an on-line petition Rally/Hearing details: Move To Amend | Alliance For Democracy | Sign the online petition [ Reportback: Video of Jan 4th Rally Supporting Portland City Council Resolution to End Corporate Personhood ]

We reject the scapegoating of immigrants in the same way we refuse to blame Muslims, the poor, public sector workers, women, and other victims of this recession. We blame the recession on those who caused it, the most wealthy 1%. The 1% want immigrants to have zero rights so that they are easily exploitable and can be paid slave wages, thus lowering the wages of all working people. The Jazz Timber Sale is proposed by the Forest Service to log 2,000 acres in the Collawash Watershed, the most geologically unstable watershed in Mt. Hood. The sale would require 11 miles of roads that have been previously decommissioned to be re-opened to facilitate logging and has prevented still more miles of roads that are damaging water quality and aquatic habitat from being decommissioned while the Jazz Timber Sale has been in the planning stages. All citizens of the United States may comment on activities which take place on public land Comments on the Jazz Timber Sale are due by Monday at 5:00 on December 19, 2011. "Hello Portland-area Oregon ON community, NeighborWorks America is looking for about 80 volunteers to help staff an important family foreclosure-prevention event happening in Portland on Saturday, December 3. They are a great, effective organization so we are helping them get the word out. If you're feeling thankful for a warm roof over your head this rainy week, please consider grabbing your senior/student/community/church/business group and joining them (individual volunteers are welcome too of course)! They are holding this event in conjunction with the U.S. Treasury, HUD, Fannie Mae, and major lenders. Homeowners in danger of losing their homes to foreclosure can meet with their servicer and/or a housing counselor in an attempt to resolve their issues. They hope to see at least 500 families." oregonon.org calendar of local events in Oregon and Washington
Animal Defense League and In Defense of Animals have organized a march in solidarity with those who suffer injustice at the hands of the fur trade and in opposition to those corporations and individuals who benefit from the suffering and the commodification, marketing, and sale of fur products. We are not going to forget about the plight of wildlife, the environment, workers and communities as the holiday season approaches and mass consumer culture seizes our city. We are not going to let apathy or fear encroach on our sense of urgency and our passion for freedom and justice.

8 am -Thursday east side of steel bridge protest police have bridge closed to everyone but the Max this morning can they do that? This is a Jobs With Justice event: http://www.jwjpdx.org/
[The Steel Bridge, like so much of our infrastructure, is structurally deficient and in need of repair. This is work that needs doing, even while thousands in Portland are unemployed! Bridges like this one are symbols of politicians failure to pass a jobs bill or do anything to help the 99%, while the richest 1% keep getting richer.]
Veterans for Peace, Chapter 72, will be gathering at Pioneer Courthouse Square for their seventh annual commemoration of this solemn day. The public is invited to help commemorate this day "...with thanksgiving, prayer and exercises designd to perpetuate peace through good will and mutual understanding between nations...."
Armistice Day (Veterans' Day, Remembrance Day) Commemoration Friday, November 11 Pioneer Courthouse Square, downtown Portland 11:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, it became "All quiet on the Western Front." An armistice signed at six o'clock that morning took effect and brought a ceasefire to the "War to End All Wars." Since that fateful day, most nations which fought in that conflict observe Armistice Day. Unfortunately, the horrors of World War I were to be outdone by those of World War II and to honor the sacrifices of the veterans who fought in it, Armistice Day was changed to Veterans Day in 1954. While it is fitting and proper to honor all veterans for their service, it is a shame that the original intent of November 11 has become lost to the militarization and commercialization of this important date.
Bring warm clothes and a cushion (newspapers also work for sitting). You are encouraged to decorate with American flags in honor of Veterans Day and to help remind folks that human power and citizen involvement/protest are patriotic actions. If there is time before assembly (and the mood strikes) let's sing some songs of freedom and protest. Bring a guitar or other musical instrument. http://shift2bikes.org/cal/view3week.php#11-2673
