Oil is not well in the Gulf
wondering hot oil plus frozen clathrates equals trouble{.} BP is defying Admiral Thad Allen to keep the pipe closed at their oil catastrophe site. They are proudly announcing that the oil disaster is over, and that the 'seeps' nearby are not expressing oil. Their own live feed looks ominous this morning, however, with dark clouds moving occasionally from left to right across the camera image; the image as a whole is much murkier than in the past.

Lone Vet Report
I just love this photo, thanks Joe-Anybody SO WHAT IS THIS RULE WE ARE SO PISSED AT? March 24, 2010 Roll call number 186 in the House (Blumenauer voted yes to 4899) Question On Passage: H R 4899 Making emergency supplemental appropriations for disaster relief and summer jobs for fiscal year ending September 30, 2010, and for other purposes Ayes: 239 (Democrat: 234; Republican: 5) Nays: 175 (Democrat: 8; Republican: 167) Abstained: 14 (Democrat: 10; Republican: 4) Result: Bill Passed

In the Senate{.} H.R.4899: Making supplemental appropriations for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2010, and for other purpose{...} May 27, 2010 Roll call number 176 in the Senate Question On Passage of the Bill (H.R. 4899, As Amended) Ayes: 67 (Democrat: 53; Republican: 12; Other: 2) Nays: 28 (Democrat: 2; Republican: 26) Abstained: 5 (Democrat: 2; Republican: 3) Required percentage of 'Aye' votes: 1/2 (50%) Percentage of 'aye' votes: 67% Result: Bill Passed

This is where the Senate passed amendments to make this bill into a Supplemental for the War/Occupation of Afghanistan, (Obama's Surge.) The Bill HR 4899 is now a way for the President to get his blood money, but there are problems in the House, some "Anti-War Dems" do not want to vote for a war supplemental, but could be bought off with some social programs. The GOP will vote for more killings but not for more social programs; the Bill HR 4899 could fail.

AETA4 Indictment Dismissed, but Re-indictment possible
A U.S. District Court has thrown out the indictment of four animal rights activists who were charged with violating the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act, because the government did not clearly explain what, exactly, the protesters did.

When Joseph Buddenberg, Maryam Khajavi, Nathan Pope and Adriana Stumpo were arrested in 2009, prosecutors said little other than that the group allegedly chalked slogans on the sidewalk, distributed fliers and attended protests. Later, when they were officially indicted, the government was still tight-lipped about how their non-violent, above-ground protests amounted to "terrorism."

In response, the Center for Constitutional Rights and attorney Matthew Strugar led an effort to have the indictments dismissed. In short, they argued that the charges should be dropped because they seem to involve only protected First Amendment speech, but that in order to make that argument the defendants' speech must be clearly identified.

For Immediate Release

Marie Mason put in solitary confinement
marie mason On Thursday, July 1 Green Scare prisoner Marie Mason was placed in solitary confinement. All supporters are encouraged to write her and keep her spirits up. Her cell is very small and windowless, and since then she has only been allowed to stand outside (in a small cage) for under an hour - in total. She cannot send email and can only make one phone call a week. She has also lost access to the vegan food she was buying from the commissary, and so she has an extremely limited diet. She has been told that she has been "re-classified", although exactly what this means is unclear. They may be preparing to transfer her. Mason can still send and receive letters. (However, she asks that supporters do not send pictures at this time.). All supporters are encouraged to write her and keep her spirits up.

Marie Mason is serving almost 22 years for two acts of environmentally-motivated property destruction in which no one was harmed. This is the longest current sentence of any of the Green Scare prisoners. (The Green Scare is the name given to the recent prosecution of eco-saboteurs and animal liberation activists, in which the government has labeled them as "terrorists" and sought huge sentences.) Mason was turned in by her then-husband, Frank Ambrose, who had secretly spied on activists for years and then filed for divorce the day she was arrested. Mason eventually plead guilty to 14 actions; 13 were claimed by the Earth Liberation Front and one by the Animal Liberation Front. At her sentencing, the judge said she had "violated the marketplace of ideas" and gave her an even longer sentence than the prosecution had asked for (15-20 years).

Oscar Grant verdict sparks protest in Portland
At 10pm protesters marched from Peninsula Park occupying the streets and demonstrating against the police as a result of the verdict given to Oakland Police Officer Johannes Mehserle who killed Oscar Grant January 1st 2009. Portland, USA. 08/07/2010

Today Mehserle was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and not 2nd degree murder, or 1st degree murder as many would have desired. Portlanders mobilised at short notice to speak out against the police and the fresh verdict, marching to Martin Luther King Boulevard from the park shouting, "ACAB - All coppers are bastards" amongst other terms. The police were all over the scene, monitoring beforehand from afar as people gathered for the event. A number of windows were smashed at a Bank of America on Martin Luther King Blvd. and at Portland Community College - Cascades Campus. At all times the police urged the protesters to move on to the sidewalk or they would be arrested whilst two bike cops led the plethora of police cars.

About a month ago Schrader promised to get back to trade activists concerning his views on this Congressional bill, and had not as of that afternoon.
