The GLBTQQ Community Discusses Bashings in Forum
The City and State Officials Panel In a response to the gay bashings in the Portland area this weekend, a community forum was held tonight at the Q Center (4115 N Mississippi) by the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Trans, Queer and Questioning (GLBTQQ) community to ask questions, get answers and come up with solutions.

On 5/30/10, three members of the Portland GLBTQQ community were attacked. Two of the three men attacked came to the Q Center to give their account of what happened over the weekend. Around 2am, a group left Red Cap and were walking past Living Rooms Theater including 3 drag queens and 3 queer men. They were attacked by an undetermined group of men. The men yelled, "Faggots" and advanced upon the group. One queen got hit three to four times in the face. The queer group fought back but were continually attacked, not only physically but with remarks like, "I hope you die of AIDS." One man, Birch, was completely knocked out.

Video: Portland Citizens Condemn Recent Killing of Peace Activissts
With but a few hours notice, Portland Oregon citizens gather in downtown Portland to condemn the recent killing of peace activists on a humanitarian aid flotilla seeking to break the illegal Israeli blockade of Gaza.

People gathered at Pioneer Square and later marched through downtown Portland and around the Rose Festival carnival at Waterfront Park.
Several speakers condemned this latest atrocity against both the Palestinian people and the world Peace Community. Speakers from various organizations took the bullhorn to give information about the tragedy and clarify some of the early media spin. Video:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llJJX3AyX5I

Photos and Report Back: NW Natural Shareholders Meeting Rally
A large gathering of citizens from Washington and Oregon sent a very strong message to the shareholders of NW Natural this afternoon, opposing Liquefied Natural Gas facilities proposed for the Oregon coast, facilities which would necessitate a 217-mile highway-width clear cut across farms, forest lands and our Mt. Hood National Forest.

At least 250 people gathered at the Oregon Convention Center to let the shareholders meeting behind closed doors that this proposal is not only bad for the environment, but bad business as well.

Rally for Oregon Values at NW Natural Shareholder Meeting
Residents of the Pacific Northwest oppose NW Natural's Palomar pipeline in an effort to protect Oregon values: clean water, protected salmon runs, healthy forests, family farms and a clean energy future. NW Natural, in partnership with TransCanada Gas Transmission, is proposing the Palomar pipeline, a 217-mile natural gas pipeline that would connect to a Liquefied Natural Gas terminal on the Columbia River to the California-bound pre-existing GTN pipeline. With the LNG Palomar pipeline, NW Natural threatens hundreds of landowners in the Willamette Valley with eminent domain, while bringing heavy construction to cross 300 rivers and streams, and a 47-mile long clear-cut through Mt. Hood National Forest. A broad coalition of NW Natural ratepayers, shareholders, environmentalists, fishermen, foresters, and farmers are demanding that the company cancel the unnecessary and unethical pipeline plan.

What: Hundreds of Oregonians and Washingtonians protest at the 3rd Annual Rally to Stop the Palomar Pipeline at the NW Natural Shareholder Meeting.

When: May 27 1-4pm. Political speakers and media invited at 2:30pm.

Where: Oregon Convention Center, 777 NE MLK BLVD Portland, Or

Lone Vet Report
Lone Vet Once again it has been a busy week; last Saturday we had our first meeting to read the new play, "Satan's Crisis." This was the first draft and many changes will happen as we meet and read the play. The next reading will be on Saturday May 22 and so it goes. If you are interested about the play e-mail me and I will let you know, the play will not be ready for general distribution for a month or so. It is an indictment of humanity, religions, and politicians as we face the end of our world. Satan's pissed because if our world ends he will not exist. He calls Earth his supermarket of souls. Then there is our City Council and the decision to kick *Houseless people to the gutter.

Communique Regarding N. Portland Community Police Station
[5/13/10] Last night a few individuals tired of people being murdered, set out to break all the windows of the "community" police station at N Denver and N Killpatrick.

Yesterday the police killed another person. We don't know many details but we don't need to know more details to be seething over this (though frankly we will probably never be told the full account). We aren't going to wait to watch the police demonize another person that would still be alive if there were no cops.

Cops that killed Chasse, Campell, Colins and many others still threaten our communities with weapons and badges. Nothing changes, a new chief, another death. Write all the childrens books that you want, we still see the dead piling up.

Nothing changes, except windows in police stations.

Support HS Students in Their Struggle for Educational Equity!
Attend the School Board meeting on Monday, May 10 (this Monday), at the Portland Public Schools Administration Offices on North Dixon. There will be student speakers at this event. The School Board meeting is scheduled from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m
Help support the ones most affected by Portland Public Schools Redesign Plan -- the students, their families and their neighborhoods. Listen to their voices and support them in their right to be heard and listened to. It is their future at stake!

Marshall High School in outer-Southeast Portland and Benson Technical High School are the high schools which are going to be most impacted by the High School Redesign Plan. The proposal for Marshall High School includes making it a "focus" (which focus is as yet undisclosed) school with a student body of 400. Lents neighborhood teens not attending the Marshall High School "Focus" School would be attending Madison or Franklin High Schools, a substantial commute from their neighborhood. Marshall High School is a vital part of the struggling Lents neighborhood. The effective closure of Marshall High School would negatively impact the Lents community.

The proposal for Benson Technical High School is to transform it from a four-year technical high school and make it a two-year vocational school for juniors and seniors. These juniors and seniors would attend other schools but would enroll for tech classes at Benson. Both Marshall High School and Benson High School serve large populations of low income and minority youth, who will suffer from these changes.

Announcing Another "Name Those Sea Lions" Contest
Nine more sea lions have just been added to the growing list of animals whom the State plans to execute, should they be able to catch them. The addition to the kill list is a dire matter for these animals. Less than two months ago, Freddy (aka C00) was added to the kill list, and this week he was captured in a trap. He was put to death as a result.
