To Act As Spectators Do
In the recent months I have heard rumors, some true while some are a bit far off, that the Northwest anarchists have their shit together. That we are "actually doing shit". Sometimes I can't help but feel that that is what it is: shit. Sometimes people allow their head to expand a bit, even sometimes anarchists attack fellow comrades over the silliest things as if they have all the answers as to how to "create real change" and that the "stupid anarchists" are just hot headed or adhere to some doctrine called "the politics of fun". But I grin a bit, maybe in an awkward way sometimes. Like during the times when I have heard excitedly "We have been on bombs and Shields two time in the last six months!" from fellow anarchists, from people who seem to think they are in a movie.

The Portland Gun Show, Immigration, and the Turner Diaries
We're now witness to the largest wave of human migration the planet has ever seen. Driven by a new, truly international form of capitalism, human populations are alternately violently displaced, economically pressured, invited, coerced into relocation across the globe by civil wars, low intensity wars, high intensity wars, famines, droughts, hurricanes, floods, trade policies, austerity, other countless other economic and environmental catastrophies. This is globalized capitalism. We live in a time of threatened ecological collapse and the beginnings of capitalism's greatest tragedy-the possibility of a human created mass die-off of mamallian and other forms of life.

City of Ashland Chamber of Commerce VIOLATES the First Amendement
We Can Not Let Our Rights Slip Away! Regarding Ashland's 4th of July Parade which is run by the Chamber of Commerce, here is the bottom line: "The ACLU and the SOJWJ, therefore, respectfully demand that, first, the Chamber alter its fee structure so as not to discriminate based on the content of entrants' message, and second, the Chamber refund the additional payment of $70 paid by SOJwJ for the 2007 Ashland Fourth of July Parade. If the Chamber fails to do both of these things, the ACLU of Oregon and SOJwJ are prepared to file a lawsuit to obtain this relief, plus the recovery of reasonable attorney fees."

The Role of Homeland Security in the May 30 Arrest of anti-Pesticide Demonstrators
homeland security Only yesterday did I - one of the three arrestees from the May 30th Taser Incident - finally get to read the police reports on the incident. I have to admit, if I had not been there and witnessed things with my own eyes, the police reports would seem very compelling. However, because I was there, I notice clear falsehoods, misleading statements, and plenty of probably honest mistakes in the reports. In this letter I will address several key falsehoods/mistakes. I will begin with the biggest shocker: THE KEY ROLE PLAYED BY HOMELAND SECURITY in not only my arrest, but in instigating the entire ugly affair. I will point out several verifiable falsehoods in their reports.

The Worst Cop I have ever met - PPB Ofc Reisten #31663
So, I am riding my bicycle home from work on the afternoon of June 30th, 2008 through Waterfront Park when I hear the tell tale signals that the pedestrian path on the lower Steel Bridge is raising. Instead of sitting in the sun waiting for the barge to pass I stop short of the bridge to stand under the shade of a tree. This is when I notice about 50 feet away two uniformed officers talking to an black couple laying down in the park. I look to see what is going on as it is very strange how the officers are treating them and this is when I identified Ofc Reisten from the Joe Anybody? video in May. [ Read More ]

false-flag move telegraphed?
nuclear fireball There is prattle about a possible "suitcase nuke" in the news lately. Prattle, I say, because a "suitcase nuke" is very nearly (though not quite) a unicorn. It IS possible to miniaturize a fission/fusion weapon, but it takes a high-tech/high-investment effort typical only to well-financed governments. It isn't something that some yahoo could do in a garage. Furthermore the components of any Cold War era miniaturized nuke would be heavily degraded by now--everything in it would be subject to heat (say 300-400F) and neutron irradiation, degrading everything from "shaped" explosives to control components.

Life as Gift, not Possession
In "Kaspar Hauser," Jacob Wassermann describes a town suffering from a long drought. With the wells dry, the town becomes enmeshed in violence and recrimination until a little boy plays so beautifully on his flute that water rises again in the wells.

Consumerism, trickle-down mythology and the market as a self-healing panacea or elixir have led to social paralysis in monopoly capitalism. Profit eclipses social welfare. Concentration of power has led to the domination of corporate media and corporate inevitability. Convinced "there is no alternative," (Margaret Thatcher's phrase implying that society isn't a reality, only individuals) people are caught in the mythology of CEOs as "job creators" and workers as "cost-factors." This language distortion is a product of our "elite democracy," where definitional power is exercised by capital and elites. Since the market is stylized as sacrosanct and self-healing, all problems are explained as interferences with the market.

The GAP
What is the GAP in logic? How can we really increase the amount of board feet that we have harvested from our nationally "managed" forests. Even a federal emergency does not grant the GAP my pardon. You are sick, sick, sick!

The Gap
Three months ago
On all the major corporate TV news shows
They reported that water in the Sierras was at 90 percent capacity.
Everyone who has had any longevity or science background
Knew that this was to blow a cool breath of relief against
The squinting view of Global Warming
Even as I said that the glaciers were all but dead
They said they measured and we were fine

Their possessions were confiscated and thrown away. The Portland Coalition Against Poverty is hosting a demonstration to demand an immediate end to police harassment of poor and houseless people. Rising Moon Organics: Delicious Food, Waste Free
Rising Moon Organics (RMO) has served the finest ravioli and desserts at the Oregon Country Fair (OCF) since 1992. RMO was formerly one of many food booths producing mountains of trash over the 3 day festival, but changed their approach in 1993 to pursue a trash-free mission.
As a result, RMO has saved over 100,000 plates, cups and forks from going to the landfill. RMO marked its 15th year at the Oregon Country Fair in 2006, by becoming a not-for-profit booth donating all profits to local organizations.

RMO has been instrumental in creating a sustainable fair with less trash that supports the OCF in furthering its trash-free mission. The process began in collaboration with the Fern Ridge School District to wash most durables off site. And that was just the beginning for greening the practices of feeding thousands of hungry fair goers.

Clear Channel says NO! to the Iraqi Children's Campaign
The Iraqi Children's campaign efforts to put up a prominent billboard in the Portland Metro area ran into a roadblock last week when Clear Channel refused to allow the billboard. The proposed billboard is on our website and features a frightened Iraqi child with the words, "Every child matters!" www.iraqichildrenscampaign.org

This billboard is tasteful and simply shows a frightened iraqi child and conveys the message that every child matters regardless of their nation of origin. But Clear channel has decided that the people of Portland don't need to be reminded of the pain and suffering of children in their name. They claim that the design is "not right for the market at this time" which is of course utterly absurd.

Death of the 4th
say bye bye Come join us at the Earl's Den to say goodbye to the 4th Amendment. There will be two ceremonies---- one at high noon at Rep. Blumenauer's office and the second about 2:15-2:30 at the fed building. Many of us will join members from Veterans for Peace and Code Pink at the fed building.

Congress, as a whole, has abandoned us for whatever reason---fear, power, money, or just plain stupidity, I don't care what the reason is, they all have to go. That will be my rallying cry from now until November. When people see that a politician has the word incumbent after his/her name they will get sick at the thought of voting for them.

The action starts at:

729 SE Oregon St. (Earl's Den)
@ high noon
2:15-2:30 we will be at the fed building to show that we loved the 4th Amendment and want to pay our respects.

4th Amendment:
- Protection from unreasonable search and seizure.
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

I-69 Resistance and Repression Round-up
Solidarity torch march Indiana June 24- Resistance to I-69 has been rapidly heating up in the past month. While the first protest camp set up was quietly evicted in early May, a tree-sit and occupation created in the path of a proposed onramp later that month lasted five weeks.

During that time, participants also built an elaborate ground camp, while simultaneously carrying on intensive organizing with local families threated by the road, culminating in a community picnic in Oakland City attended jointly by landowners and eco-activists. Exciting demonstrations and solidarity actions happened throughout the month - in Bloomington, Louisville, Maryland, and beyond.
