Tre Arrow Accepts Plea Bargain
tre arrow Tre Arrow accepted a plea bargain at the Federal Courthouse this morning. Here's his message to everyone: A warm blessing to you all - i thank you for your support and for being here today. Some may look at this non - cooperation plea agreement as a victory. Some may see it as a defeat. It's really neither! It's simply another step in this journey as i walk my path of conscience. You see, it's never been about me. From before the days of the ledge-sit, right thru 'til today, this has been and will always be about the commitment to leave our Earth Mother in a healthier, more beautiful state then when i arrived.

This is about taking back our power from the government and corporate entities that would have us believe that monetary wealth and the acquisition of material objects is more important than the health of the planet, it's people and the billions of life forms with whom we share this home. This is about being a voice for the trees, our animal friends, the waters, mountains and blue skies. This is a calling to consider our children grandchildren and the generations to follow. This is living up to our divine potential. This is an opportunity to be a voice for truth, compassion and respect in the face of profound corruption and disregard for the sanctity of life that permeates the governments and corporations of the world.

Citizens Hunger-Strike Against NW Naturalís Liquefied Natural Gas Proposal
Citizens of Oregon have begun a ten (10) day hunger-strike on the main entrance of the NW Natural Energy Company headquarters building to bring awareness to the fact that the Palomar Gas Transmission System (PGT) is a serious and intolerable threat to the ecological and social integrity of Oregon.

NW Natural and Palomar are preparing to install a massive pipeline through over 500 miles of Oregon's public and private property. This will result in devastating impacts on streams, rivers and waterways, wildlife habitat areas, wilderness, and small family farms. NW Natural is carelessly destroying these precious ecosystems for private gains. All fuel piped through the PGT system will go to supply California with liquefied natural gas. There are no direct benefits for Oregonians who are affected. As we stand on the verge of global environmental crises, NW Natural is stepping in the wrong direction.

One Step Closer to Health-Care for all Portland Public School Children
Benefit for Measure 23 - Healthcare for ALL Oregon Portland, Ore. - May 27, 2008 - The WhyNotPortland campaign today submitted 30,520 signatures for its ballot initiative to provide health insurance for uninsured school children in Portland. The initiative will require 27,255 valid signatures from registered Portland voters to be certified for the November 2008 general election ballot in Portland.

The plan would allow children to see their pediatrician or other primary care provider for a $10 co-pay while providing coverage for hospitalizations and other major illnesses. Other highlights include no exclusions for pre-existing medical conditions, near immediate eligibility for newly enrolled Portland public school students and coverage would begin February 1, 2009.

Volunteers will continue to gather more signatures until the initiative is certified for the ballot. For more information about the initiative, please visit www.whynotportland.org or contact Dr. Gregg Coodley at (503) 452-0915.

Michigan ELF Informant Recorded Conversations with Activists
The North American Earth Liberation Prisoners Support Network has posted new information on Frank Ambrose's cooperation with the federal government in a series of cases pertaining to Earth Liberation Front (ELF) actions in Michigan. As part of his guilty plea, Ambrose agreed to provide information on actions of the Earth Liberation Front (ELF). Disturbingly, at various points in affidavits in the case Ambrose is singled out by the government for involvement in legal activities.

The Earth Liberation Prisoners Support Network is reporting that Ambrose has produced countless hours of recordings with other activists in the year before his indictment:

Ungar Furs Shut Down
Ungar Furs Shut Down for Memorial Day, but Protesters Did Not
With Ungar Furs shut down for Memorial Day, protesters used the Saturday morning regular protest time to write educational messages on the sidewalk in chalk. Several protesters gathered to continue the presence in front of the store, which sells the pelts of animals who have had their necks broken, were gassed to death or anally electrocuted in the name of vanity.

The animals used for Ungar's unethical products do not get holidays off, and Ungar Furs will not get any Saturdays off. Remarkably, the fact that the store was closed did not seem to make any difference in their daily sales, as roughly the same number of customers approached the store as when the store is open: 0.

Come help Ungar Furs make the responsible decision that it's time to retire:

Student Sit-In at TESC, 100 Hours
an update on the going ons of the sit in going on in Olympia.... A student sit-in at the Evergreen State College (TESC) has now surpassed its 100th hour and is heading into its fifth day. The sit-in is in support of reinstatement of the banned student group Students for a Democratic Society (SDS).

The student protesters have peacefully occupied the Seminar One building and have renamed it People's University. This sit-in is a part of a struggle for Free Speech on campus and an effort to put to a halt to the trend of deteriorating student rights on campus.

On Friday, May 23 an Evergreen student lost her job as a result of her participation in the demonstrations. Kelly Beckham, 20, was fired from her job at campus Parking Services after being deemed by a "security threat" by Evergreen Chief of Police Ed Sorger. She was notified directly by the police of her termination, rather than by the proper chain of command of her employment. Kelly Beckham, a member of banned student group SDS, was a speaker at the SDS Free Speech rally that preceded the sit-in. The loss of her job was a direct result of her involvement with the sit-in.

Olympia SDS and their supporters intend to stay in the occupied building until SDS is reinstated as a student group. Olympia SDS is requesting support and solidarity in all forms. All Power to the people. Student Power. ~ Olympia SDS

Fisherman shot at Sea Lion
Columbia River Sea Lions Is was reported by someone that a fisherman shot at a sea lion last Thursday morning on the Lewis River. The National Marine Fisheries Service is said to be investigating the incident.

I want to know who saw the fisherman do it. It has been said that the Sea Lion went to eat the fish that was on the fisherman's line so he/she shot the Sea Lion.

What they do not say in any of the 2 articles is who saw the fisherman do it and why was he not caught? There is so little info about this. I encourage everyone to pick up the phone and call The National Marine Fisheries Service at 206-526-6150. Ask them what is going on and then post it here. We need more information.

Tre Arrow Update - 5/23/08
A Message from Tre: "Blessings to all of you.

Perhaps you've heard that I'm set to take a plea bargain on June 3rd. In the aftermath of Briana Waters' and Eric McDavid's trials, I have weighed the options and decided that I don't want to take the risk of potentially being convicted and spending the rest of my life in prison.

I want you all to know that this is a non cooperation plea agreement: I am in no way selling my soul just to receive a sweet deal from the prosecution. By this I mean I am not giving them any information about anyone or any thing which could lead to others being prosecuted. They offered me a deal I couldn't refuse, which takes into account the time I served in Canada. For those who supported me through all of this, I thank you deeply.

I continue to stand firm in my commitment to being a voice for the Earth. I speak for the trees, for our fellow co inhabitants, and for the voices commonly ignored. This is our home, our one and only Earth Mother. Just as I will protect my birth mother from violation and harm, I am dedicated to being a force to stop the unnecessary and egregious assault on this precious planet. To this end I devote my music, my passion, my life. I look forward to seeing everyone on June 3rd.
Namaste, ~ Tre"

Dispatch from the Sit-in at Evergreen
The occupation at Evergreen continues.

Not too many personal accounts have been posted online about the sit-in/occupation at The Evergreen State College for the reinstatement of Olympia Students for a Democratic Society (SDS). It started Wednesday, May 21st around 4pm and has continued since. Just before the sit-in started, 150 students, staff and faculty gathered in Red Square for a planned Free Speech Rally where speakers from SDS, MEChA, CISPES and the Evergreen Animal Rights Network spoke about the free speech fight at Evergreen and made connections to political repression in the Green Scare, against MEChA in the Southwest and the FMLN.

Shortly after the rally started, SDS's last appeal with the college took place elsewhere on campus. When the rally ended students marched toward Vice President of Student Affairs Art Costantino's office in the Sem 1 building. He was outside of the building instead of in his office. Students confronted him and chanted "Free Speech!" and "Reinstate SDS!". Students attempted to have a discussion with him, but Art refused and walked away. The students then decided to march up the stairs in the Sem 1 building and sit-in outside of his office. Around 60 students started the sit-in.

Students, both SDSers and supporters, have kept a continuous presence outside of Art's office, rotating in shifts where 5 to over 20 students will be there at any given time. People continue to donate food and other needed supplies for the sit-in.

Wobbly Bard, Storyteller, Railroad Tramp Utah Phillips Dead at 73
Utah Phillips, a seminal figure in American folk music who performed extensively and tirelessly for audiences on two continents for 38 years, died Friday of congestive heart failure in Nevada City, California a small town in the Sierra Nevada mountains where he lived for the last 21 years with his wife, Joanna Robinson, a freelance editor. Born Bruce Duncan Phillips on May 15, 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of labor organizers. Whether through this early influence or an early life that was not always tranquil or easy, by his twenties Phillips demonstrated a lifelong concern with the living conditions of working people.

He was a proud member of the Industrial Workers of the World, popularly known as "the Wobblies," an organizational artifact of early twentieth-century labor struggles that has seen renewed interest and growth in membership in the last decade, not in small part due to his efforts to popularize it.

Mass death of bees in Germany: Pesticide approvals suspended
The cause of mass bee deaths has been established: pesticide products from chemical companies Bayer and Syngenta. They have been removed from sale in Germany. We should now pressure Bayer and regulators to remove them from sale elsewhere...

{Posted on the UKIMC) "Bayer must withdraw Gaucho and Poncho from the market worldwide"

The German Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) has ordered the immediate suspension of the approval for eight seed treatment products due to the mass death of bees in Germany's Baden-Wuerttemberg state. The suspended products are: Antarc (ingredient: imidacloprid; produced by Bayer), Chinook (imidacloprid; Bayer), Cruiser (thiamethoxam; Syngenta), Elado (clothianidin; Bayer), Faibel (imidacloprid; Bayer), Mesurol (methiocarb; Bayer) and Poncho (clothianidin; Bayer). According to the German Research Centre for Cultivated Plants 29 out of 30 dead bees it had examined had been killed by contact with clothianidin. Also wild bees and other insects are suffering from a significant loss of population.

VBC Speech: "Key to Growing Food is Awareness"
I have been asked to speak here tonight because of the way I have been spending my time lately, which is growing vegetables, fruit, and herbs in a bunch of different plots around Southeast, and doing most of the traveling, hauling, etc., by bike. "Bicycle-based urban agriculture," it has been called. I am running the operation as a CSA. A CSA -- which stands for "Community Supported Agriculture" -- is a business arrangement in which a set of households provide resources, fiscal and otherwise, to a farmer in the Winter and Spring and in return recieve produce throughout the Summer and into the Autumn.

Together with my farming partners, who also ride their bikes everywhere, we are growing food for 40 households out of all these plots. We also have "The Staple Foods Project", with its own set of supporters, which is intended to raise survival foods such as quinoa, soybeans, sunflowers-for-oil, soup peas, lentils, and more. The overall goal of these projects is food independence, for a small number of people anyway, by this winter. Also, we will share whatever it is we learn with whomever wants to know. When it comes to food growing, none of us can afford to make any trade secrets.
