An article in the Sandy Post has done a pretty fair job of naming names, and showing photos of some of the thugs that are running up citizens' tax burden while simultaneously driving tourists and other cash bearing folks from their city.
According to the article, written by Marcus Hathcock, "The Sandy Police Department and its officers are facing six lawsuits — including five filed in federal court — that accuse officers of excessive force, harassment and violating constitutional rights."
Those of us familiar with this den of iniquity are very familiar with the case of Fouad Kaady, who was murdered by Sandy Cop Bergin and Clacko wierdo Willard. We are also somewhat familiar with the "mysterious" disappearance and uninvestigated murder of Juan Rubio, and the constant harassment of his father, Carlos, for asking questions. Some of the other details are less familiar, so I am going to do the unthinkable, and swipe some corporate rag text to tell the tale. Those who are more curious can follow the above link to the article, and also research both Fouad Kaady and Carlos Rubio here, on Indymedia.
Over 55 people attended last evenings peace vigil @ 5th and Hall in Beaverton.
The administration continues down the path of denial. Six years of blind obedience to this outfit has produced disastrous results. Impeach Bush/Cheney.
Using a somewhat obscure law, civillian Richard Koenig brought charges against Mult. Deputy Todd Brightbill for speeding to Judge Hannons courtroom this week. The deputy gave a speeding ticket last May to Portland School Board member, Marc Abrams for trying to keep up with him as he went down 84 doing up to 90 MPH. In his affidavit accompaning Mr Abram's ticket, Brightbill admits to doing over 80 MPH although he was not responding to any call or emergency.
Mr Koenig brought no witnesses or additional evidence to court thinking that the sworn affidavit filled out by Brightbill admitting his guilt would be enough. Not so.
There appears to be yet another major fossil fuel project on the Columbia River. We are awaiting formal notification of a third massive liquefied natural gas (LNG) import termilna in Oregon. Calpine Corporation stated its intent to develop an LNG terminal in Warrenton (near Astoria) two years ago. It went bankrupt, and sold its LNG asset out of bankruptcy to Leucadia Nataion Corporation. Leucadia now intends to develop the mouth of the Columbia River with a massive fossil fuel
On January 24, 2002 I was surrounded by 25 federal agents from the FBI and Secret Service Los Angeles Joint Terror Task force while I was at home asleep taking a nap. The agents were armed with sub-machine guns, shot guns, bullet-proof vests, a battering ram, and a 25 page search and seizure warrant filled with as much "terror rhetoric" as they could think of. While asleep I was unaware that agents were already positioned around every angle of the house, including right outside my window with loaded weapons ready for a fire fight. I was 18.
Thanks to all of you who've written to the SHAC7 in the past few weeks- they're appreciating the much-needed letters!
We heard from Josh today- he gets one 15-min call per week while in "the hole" (aka "special housing"). He's been given paperwork stating their reasoning for putting him there- the Bureau of Prisons is accusing him of being a "threat" and a "domestic terrorist", using as evidence against him a vague response he gave to a small skate/dumpstering zine questionnaire (something to the effect of: go at them, with all you've got), and possession of copies of No Compromise and Green Anarchy magazines. He's also been informed that the FBI is interested in going to question him, which is (of course) a waste of a trip for them.
We don't know what will happen now, and considering that new charges could be brought against Josh we can't discuss many details (not that we know many at the moment). Josh is locked down all day long and doesn't know when this might change. He apologizes for any lack of response- while he's in the hole he has very limited access to writing materials- but he still enjoys hearing from you!
Wondering how you can help??
PLEASE WRITE TO JOSH AND HIS CO-DEFENDANTS!!!

Once again, children and adults gathered by the Kiss on Percival Landing to welcome spring. The pink cherry trees and purple azaleas are in full bloom as folks gathered for this year's bubble blowing event to welcome spring. This is a grassroots event organized by a west side resident, who has been showing up with bubble Paraphernalia for the past 15 years to celebrate spring's arrival. Children and adults enjoyed the moment as the tried various bubble blowing implements. One mom took her kids out of school for an hour to join in this annual event because, she said, it is important to pay attention to the earth's seasons. Plus, her kids love this celebration. The kids alternated between creating the biggest bubbles and chasing the bubbles before they drifted into the inlet. Even the reporter joined in. People passing by smiled and an otter floated in the inlet enjoying all the activity.
"AMY GOODMAN: Jeremy Scahill, yesterday you talked about being in New Orleans after Katrina, seeing the Blackwater guards come in, being paid $350 [a day] by Blackwater, but Blackwater charging $950. What about other places in the United States, deploying here, like the border?
JEREMY SCAHILL: Well, Blackwater really viewed New Orleans as an opportunity to begin a whole new division, and they started, after Hurricane Katrina, a domestic operations division. Blackwater representatives, a few months ago, met with California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger about doing disaster response in the event of an earthquake. The company has simultaneously applied for operating licenses in all of the coastal states of the United States. Their new training facility, they call it -- I call it a private military base -- is opening up now in Illinois. In fact, they just released yesterday their new training schedule, and there's grassroots resistance in Illinois happening to the opening of this private military base in Mount Carroll, Illinois, which is a few hours outside of Chicago. Blackwater is also struggling to open a new facility in San Diego -- near San Diego, California. Once again, local people are rising up and saying, "We don't want these men with heavy weapons coming into our community. We don't want the rattle of machinegun fire." So Blackwater really, I think, views the domestic feeding trough in the United States as a frontier to conquer.
Four members of the surge Protection Brigade were arrested while closing down the NE POrtland Army recruiting Center on Friday, March 23rd. It is the eighth time the group has closed the office. A total of ten people - and seven rocking chairs - have been arrested. Today the rocking chisrs were just cited and released.
This action is in opposition to continued funding for a war of occupation that is destroying the people and country of Iraq, tearing apart families of dead and injured U.S. soldiers and draining scarce financial resources from domestic programs. Sara Graham, one of the grandmothers arrested at the recruiting center on February 2nd, was back again on Friday. She says, "Congress is betraying us, our children and our grandchildren. We're here because we want no more funds for the war, no more troops for the war, no more war."
The group is taking direct action at this recruiting office because we are frustrated that our elected officials have not heard the people's voice that we want this war to end now. "We are appealing directly to young people - potential new recruits - please do not offer your life for this cause," says Bonnie Tinker, a spokesperson for the group.

Six women (Code Pink & Rural Organizing Project) were arrested last night for trespassing in Rep. Greg Walden's office in Bend.
They took with them testimony from a Feb. Town Hall meeting on the "Cost of the War", showing that Walden's constituents are done with this war. Their "People's Resolution" calls for: troop withdrawal, no further $$ for the war, no expansion into Iran and coordination around the state to ensure the Or. Congressional Delegation acts in accordance with the Resolution.
Fran Davis of Crooked River Ranch, grandmother of a soldier serving his 3rd tour in Iraq says her grandson comments, "We are throwing money into a pit."
First, at around noon, there were many people (I'd say around 50) who lay down at the cable-car turnaround on market, though this was on the sidewalk and while there were many police there, no one bothered us. Later, we went up to Montgomery and many people lay down on the sidewalk, but then after that many went into the streets and lay down (including myself, but I got up after I was warned). About 45 people were arrested there, to lots of noise and a great band! After everyone was taken away, we followed the band to Powell and Market where many of us spontaneously just sat/lay down in the streets (again, including myself). So about 60 of us were arrested overall. We were taken to the station in paddy wagons, held for processing, and released within a few hours. I'd say the average age of those arrested was well over 50 (I recognized quite a few Quakers in the crowd), but there were a lot of young people in the crowd who gave us support.
Are you pissed off enough yet to take it to the next level?? The Surge Protection Brigade / Seriously Pissed Off Grannies will return to the recruiting center on NE Broadway and 13th tomorrow, Friday March 23rd at 10:00 am.
We continue to protest the recruitment of our young men and women by the insatiable war machine. At this event, there will be opportunity for civil resistance. There is also need for support in the form of protesters and witnesses. Bring signs, or use ours. Bring rocking chairs! (however, know that they may be confiscated for "evidence").
I, for one, am proud of the local anarchists that burned the US flag and the American troops in effigy during the March 18 anti-war rally in Portland. The growing local and national outrage against these radical demonstrators (and even the uninvolved college student who apparently took and posted the photo) is so predictable and lame.
The Oregonian's editorial in today's issue is simply a gutless and incompetent response to honest and ugly outrage against our US war criminal administration that carries out its illegal, immoral and carnivorous brand of capitalism only through the blind obedience of a lapdog military machine.

(Wed, 14 Mar 2007) Friends, The BLM and U.S. Forest Service released an Environmental Assessment today outlining their preliminary decision to grant a lease to Idaho General Mines for land north of Mount St. Helens. They are proposing to lease 217 acres of the approximately 900 acres the company was hoping to lease, while leaving the option for leasing the remaining 600 + acres for a later date. They are not allowing any activity on the ground and are requiring the mining company to apply for a permit (which will require a new environmental review) for exploration. You can view the EA at www.blm.gov/or/index.php
We have until April 12th to flood the BLM & U.S. Forest Service with comments asking them not to grant this lease. Comments can be sent to the address below.
After over two years of debate, the Oregon Land Use Board of Appeals is expected to rule Thursday, March 22 on the Wal-Mart Supercenter proposed for southwest Gresham. Opponents will meet Thursday night at 7pm to discuss the decision and next steps.
Wal-Mart's proposal to build a Super-Center in southwest Gresham was denied by a Hearings Officer November 2006, and that decision was appealed to the Oregon State Land Use Board of Appeals (LUBA). The LUBA ruling is due March 22, 2007.
