How does The Oregonian get away with reporting on events without facts?
Eyewitess report and pictures of the DC Arrests at the White House
The massive march in Washington on September 24 for the immediate withdrawal of US troops from Iraq was followed two days later by a smaller civil disobedience protest in front of the White House where scores were arrested.
The first of the 370 taken into police custody Monday was Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a fallen US soldier who gained national attention last month by camping out near Bush's Texas ranch to call for an end to the war and demand the president explain to her why her son was killed.
The S-24 Anti-Imperialist Committee (S24AIC) summarized the experience of the Seattle Anti-Imperialist Contingent and the reformist ANSWER rally and march which took place on 24 September. S24AIC is calling for a public meeting to be held on 9 October at 2:00PM in the Capitol Hill (Seattle) Library's upstairs conference room. The meeting's topic will be What's Next for the Anti-Imperialist Movement?

photos from Burnside bridge - about 250 people on this bridge alone.
Yes, the corporate media actually mentioned the demonstration in DC which drew more than 100,000 protesters.......it's true. Their reports were generally about 15 seconds in length, and mentioned nothing about the impassioned call for impeachment by former US Attorney General Ramsey Clark or any of the other speakers at the Rally.
On Saturday, September 24th, a group of about 40 citizens gathered at the Chamber of Commerce office in St. Helens. 40 people in this small town, miles outside of the metropolitan area, cared enough to take a stand. They turned out to protest the war in Iraq and ask that our troops be brought home. Compared to the turnout in larger, more cosmopolitan cities 40 may not seem like a lot. In St. Helens, however, there are few activities that draw such a large crowd, and those are more likely to be high school sporting events than political rallies.

If Democratic activists really want to make some change, the best thing they could do would be to get up and leave their party. Only then will Democratic leaders start to think twice about the monstrous policies they endorse.

These pictures are mostly of signs with some shots of the police and helicopters.
These pictures are mostly of the rally and the march on September 24th in DC.
Here are some of the more interesting pictures I took in Seattle.

Here's some pix of the vigil on the Hawthorne Bridge on Saturday night.
5 Photos from the anti-war vigil on the evening of September 24, 2005.
I had thought that three bridges was over-reaching, but I was wrong. All but the last photo are from the vigil on the south side of the Burnside Bridge. I'm told that there were many more participating in the vigil on the Hawthorne Bridge. However, I got to the Hawthorne bridge very late. Still I like the way the series ends with an edgy photo of one of the last to leave vigil participants to leave the Hawthorne Bridge.

I will talk to your husband but not to you. You are a rebellious woman.
View from the Bridge Vigil on Sept. 24
The Sept. 24 march on the White House brought a power of message and a unity of purpose to the antiwar movement that it has been missing until now. Bush, Cheney and Rove can try to hide and deny it, but the country is listening.
I hope someone will post photos of the bridge vigil soon
I am curious to how much coverage so far has been given in the corporate national media and even local media about the protests.
Here are a few pictures I snapped with a digital camera today. The protest brought together a great group of people as expected. I saw an estimate of around six to seven thousand people on the Seattle Indymedia website.
At least a thousand, maybe 2000 on the Burnside, Morrison and Hawthorne Bridges tonight.
A great day!
Some dedicated people gathered in Estacada today.
it makes me sad to see that portland is having a vigil for Cindy Sheehan, who is just one person exasperated with the bush administration, who ISN'T EVEN THERE RIGHT NOW, and it has to be on this weekend, the weekend of the IMF/World Bank meetings, but we're not doing shit in solidarity with the anti-IMF/WB'ers.

So we have come to cash this check -- a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice. We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism.

A growing number of people now realize that the Democratic Party is just the second facet of the national War Party. For the people who still have some investment in the democrats, that is just a desparate hope.
Cindy Sheehan, and the "Bring Them Home Now Tour," hit Baltimore City last night. The Shriver auditorium on the Johns Hopkins U. campus was packed to capacity to hear the anti-Iraqi War messages of her and others. Sheehan said, we need an "Opposition Party" and that Congress is mostly made up of cowards, who have given "a liar" and "a maniac," - George W. Bush - the power to invade Iraq. If Congress doesn't shape up, she said: "Fire them!"
Help us drive home the message to Congress:
Now is the time to end the war; Now is the time to bring our troops home

About 7:00 AM (according to Yahoo) AP confirmed yesterday's PIMC report that Cindy Sheehan and friends have been harrassed by NYC PD for exercising their right to speak freely in condemnation of the Iraq War. The AP report was posted by Yahoo at about 7:00 am today. The PIMC report was datelined about 1:30 pm yesterday.

Cindy Sheehan is blogging now. Here's from her blog for today:
"We all now know the reason that we are in Iraq. George told us so from a break he was taking from Crawford in San Diego on the same day that Katrina was hitting the Gulf States: it is for oil. It is so George, Dick, and their evil buddies can rape more profits from our children's flesh and blood. This is not a Noble Cause, as a matter of fact, it is the most ignoble cause for a war that has ever been waged."
"If you love our country and want to see a change for the better, come to DC on the 24th of this month and stand up and be counted for peace. The entire world is counting on you."

As long as there is capitalism - and the state to support it - this perpetual state of war, racism, sexism, and xenophobia will continue.

Anti-war movement at critical juncture
Into the streets or into the Democratic Party?
In the days ahead, there will likely be meetings of representatives of the two coalitions sponsoring separate actions and it is critical that the voice of unity-minded grassroots groups and individuals be heard when these representatives get together. You can help make that voice heard.
Support the call for unity.
