West Coast Ports Shutdown 12 12 11

Purpose:vOakland has called for all West Coast ports to be shutdown on December, 12 2011.
LETS JOIN THEM!
In response to coordinated attacks on the occupations and attacks on workers across the nation
Occupy Oakland calls for the blockade and disruption of the economic apparatus of the 1% with a coordinated shutdown of ports on the entire West Coast on December 12th. The 1% has disrupted the lives of longshoremen and port truckers and the workers who create their wealth, just as coordinated nationwide police attacks have turned our cities into battlegrounds in an effort to disrupt our Occupy movement.

A 9 part video set from the Occupy Portland Eviction at midnight on 11.13.11 - Occupy Portland Faces an Eviction at Midnight. It didn't happen. This video set starts just before midnight and runs till about 6 am The police attempt to remove the protesters using Horse cops charging into the crowds (didn't work and almost caused a riot) and as well as threats of chemical weapons and the use of riot cops with sticks and non lethal weapons. Nothing worked as far as trying to scare or hurt the protesters from the Occupy Portland camp.

Video: N17 Afternoon Bank Protest outside of Chase

This is the 6 part video set from the 4Pm Chase Protest in Portland Oregon. This is the one where the police ram their horses into the peaceful crowd (again) who were legally protesting, the police shoved the citizens dangerously into the streets. Then the cops sent in hundreds of ROBO dressed Riot cops ... and yelling over loud speakers for next 30 minutes to "get out of the street"? ...So then (next) they start pepperspraying people and hitting them with sticks (and or jabbing protesters with their sticks)and then they do some more MAJOR blocking the street. Then they (hundreds of police) for no reason (?) leave and everything is peaceful and back to normal.

N17 Occupy the Banks, photos & reportback

N17 marked the two month anniversary of OWS, who put out a call for a day of action to block bridges, occupy banks, and other creative protest actions nationwide. In Portland, the day began with a peaceful blockade of Steele Bridge shortly after 8 AM by 25 labor and other activists. The police were on their "best behavior," arresting the activists one by one, in an orderly routine. Hours later, the gloves came off, when hundreds of protestors marched downtown to "occupy" the banks. It was back to paramilitary policing, and the indiscriminate use of pepper spray, night sticks, horses, bikes, motorbikes and riot cops to attack unarmed protestors.

Photos and comments of Occupy Portland, Nov. 12-13

The class war by the 1% against the Occupy movement is in full throttle. Last night, cops raided OWS at Liberty Plaza without warning, attacking protestors with pepper spray and batons. Two days ago (Nov. 13), facing a similar eviction threat from Mayor Adams, it was Occupy Portland in the crosshairs. Other Occupy camps have been brutally attacked in Oakland, Berkeley, Denver, Chapel Hill, and elsewhere. Even as they dismantle the camps, we are not giving up the fight.

enact new law requiring all riot police, clubs have user's ID# & name clearly visible
Let's expedite the process for voting and immediately enacting a new city ordinance and police policy that holds police accountable and thereby reduces tax dollars wasted, citizens injured or killed, and escalates protests and costs and damage to City funds and property.
Make it the law that if you wear or use riot gear within the City of Portland, you must have your name and ID number clearly legible to the human eye from all directions 20 feet away-- and if you don't you will be arrested, denied pay or vacation or benefits for that time period, denied legal defense for being on duty, and be denied deployment and/or employment in law enforcement for work directly or indirectly as employee, contractor, or volunteer from any governmental agency or body or military working within Portland, regardless of jurisdiction or purpose.
Legitimate use of trained workers to serve and protect citizens and uphold and defend our Constitutionally-recognized inalienable rights do not need riot gear or weapons. In any conceivable riot situation, if the officers are obeying the law and acting ethically, they have no reason to fear being identified, and should feel proud to be photographed and videotaped with their identity clear. This proposed law and practice would prevent criminally-minded officers from committing crimes and abusing their trust; it helps well-meaning officers be safe and trusted, with better social and job security; it helps keep citizens hopeful and peaceful; and it saves tax dollars and helps us focus on more important and urgent problem-solving for the greater good that can thereby prevent future riots or martial law.
There is no rational or conceivable situation in which these name and ID number Velcro or hook and loop badges could fall off or be torn off in the line of duty, or that having this identification would endanger or distract legitimate police work. No excuse.
