After the morning rally, there will be an additional anti Bush protest at 5pm
see link below
Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
3. Massacre by Yankees
Since their occupation of south Korea in September 1945, the US troops have inflicted unbearable pains and sufferings on the south Korean people, incessantly committing various crimes like massacre, plunder, violation, destruction, etc. In the five-year-period after the occupation alone the US imperialists killed in a brutal way over 1 million south Korean people who had turned out in the anti-US, anti-fascist resistance. After the outbreak of the Korean War they massacred another 1 million guiltless south Korean civilians in a little more than one year. They still continue to kill, rape and violate the south Korean people after the War. They slaughtered more than 5,700 people and seriously wounded over 14,000 civilians in the Gwangju Popular Uprising in May 1980. On June 13 last year the GIs brutally ran over two south Korean passersby: teenaged schoolgirls to death with an armored car in the daytime.
I dont like the idea of some big $$ rock band using our protest for their own self agrandizment.
Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about, but
Is there gonna be an actual bloc or will there just be a few of us that get our asses beat to hell?
Everything that is polluted, dull, wicked, foul, obnoxious, unjust, inhuman, self-absorbed, despotic, repressive, shit-stained, bloodsucking, hypocritical, fascist, dishonest, corrupt and criminal is summed up for us in that one word: BUSH!
blah
The cruise ship of the hyper-wealthy arrive in Portland at the same time as (p)Resident Bu$h's fundraiser...such a coincidence!
do not disgrace me!
An advocacy of an alternative approach to the location and efforts of protesting the visit of POTUS.
Distance
I have felt from the very beginning that this UP lunch thing was just a SHAM -- something to draw us AWAY from where Bush really will be.
Childcare!!
BUSH has resolved policing brilliantly everywhere he has gone, Afghanistan is now a place to raise children. Iraq's now consider the USA to be a foster-parent. Now BUSH comes to Portland to take 'little-beriut' and turn it into little-baghdad. A place where men are men, and cops [ gi's] are in control.
Demonstrators will be kept far away from Bush and the top state Republicans, confined to quiet, tree-lined neighborhood streets.
here's a flyer to pass out tomorrow at the protest to encourage people to post to and read indymedia. this'll be good for folks who are watching from their yards, too, maybe
P-minus-one intel update.
University of Portland is not really easy to get to.
Sheesh, it would be too bad if a lot of grannies driving really slow held up all the Lexus and Mercedes and SUVs heading to UofP.
Police: Bush demonstrators must use sidewalks
Contact the U of P to demand that they drop charges against the 5 'tree huggers' arrested Tuesday afternoon.
I need lunch $$ for tommorow.
Impeachment is for liars: the Bush cartel criminals.
We know you guys will do an AMAZING job! I personally look forward to reposting info from here onto other sites as it comes in. Sf.indymedia has moved articles on the upcoming protests to the top of the Global News section every time they are posted.
Bush plans to galvant around central Oregon tommorrow after he makes a brief appearance in Portland. Rest assured, folks out here are just as disgusted about his administration as ya'all on the west side and we intend to give him a proper greeting to let the world know that we want an end to his warmongering, ecologically destructive, and oppressive policies.
Details: A demonstration will begin at 2:30pm on August 21st. Location choice #1: Head west on Hwy 20 from Bend (or east if you're coming from Eugene) Go past Sisters (or past Suttle Lake if you're coming from Eugene) and turn North onto Forest Service Road 14 (the turn-off to Camp Sherman). Go until you see people. Location choice #2: It's currently looking like not only will we not be able to turn onto F.S. Rd. 14, but a big chunk of Hwy 20 may be closed off for a.) security reasons and b.)there's a couple of fires that recently started in the area (they are probably human caused as there has been no lightning). In this case, people will drive as far as they can until they are stopped by the roadblock, and then commence to have the protests there.
Some people who are unable to go to North Portland to greet Bush will gather in the park across from the Mark O. Hatfield Federal Court House at 10:00 am on Thursday. Join us there as we gather to oppose Bush and then go for a brisk stroll around town.

Looking For Directions For Southeast Portland.
below is from an email i received today from the pprc.
"oh, no, there's no permit! don't hold us responsible! this rally might actually be effective for once, we don't want any part of it!" "in solidarity." yeah, right.
This from KATU. I don't know if I would actually trust it, but perhaps we should make plans for if Bush does drive to UofP.
Not related, but... any one got rotten fruit they can bring?
Dug around a little in my video archieves looking for anything concerning George Bush. Found two. The first is a 9 minute video of a gathering in Pioneer Square on January 20, 2001, protesting the stolen election. The second is a protest during the January 2001 bush visit to a youth facility in Northeast Portland and a High Scholl on NE 122nd and Sandy Blvd..
Nature is best
Doug Mazen was killed at point blank a few days ago while photographing a notorious US ran prision in Baghdad.
He had phoned his wife the previous night to tell her that he had found out about a gravesite where the US was burying soldiers that would be simply reported as missing in action for a later day in order to keep the day-to-day body count low.
Placing the Protest @ Univ of PDX just lets the cops control everything. Take the protest downtown. Shutdown the city, shutdown Interstate Ave, shutdown I-5.
Don't piss off the St Johns area!
People getting out of jail today will need rides! If you can do this, please call CFA to coordinate a plan and other jail support stuff.
Is'nt there some wonderful person who uses indymedia as a resource and has a car who would be willing to pick people up as they get out of jail today? Call CFA at 503 241-4879
PROTECTION AGAINST TEAR GAS AND PEPPER SPRAY, 101 The first thing to remember about exposure to these chemical weapons is that it is not the worst thing that could happen to you. The hype and fear surrounding them is enormous, but in reality, if you are careful and smart, you should survive it with little problem.
If Bush never shows at UofP, or if the police let* us through their lines, I'll bet the UofP soccer field would make a good place for some Anarchist Soccer. Anyone interested? Post below. ;)
*of if we get in some other way...
Please, if you plan on attending any of the Bush Welcome Wagon Festivities, inform your friends whether you will be using your name or not if arrested.
If you want to be heard by the pResident, you will need to make noise. Bring anything that makes lots of noise. Pots, pans, drums, trumpets, stereos... anything you can think of. Metal garbage cans make good drums I think.
Two days before resident Bush brings the GOP fundraiser machine to Oregon fires have broken out to the North and South of Camp Sherman in the Deschutes National Forest. This is the exact area Bush was supposed to tour and use to make his point that cutting down trees prevents forest fires. Do the fires point to possible arson by Bush operatives? Is this beyond the Bush regime?
Two of the women who were arrested at the press conference/tree-sit at the University of Portland on Tuesday afternoon were released late Tuesday night. These were the two who were on the ground, not any of the women who were in the tree. Both are in good spirits and have been fed.

this is the absolute minimum EVERYONE should know. Please educate yourself more on the law and how to protect yourself, but memorize these magic words.
Columbia Park [Annex] south of Lombard will be the only game in town. PPRC is very impressed that 'Portland Says NO To Bush' has done such a great job working with people in the neighborhood. PPRC folk who have been at PSNTB meetings have noted that they are run better than Cascadia Network for Peace and Justice meetings. Special congratulations to Liz and other meeting chairs.
People need to be more SPECIFIC about where the protest is going to be held in Columbia Park.......
If the entire police force is in N. Portland protecting the pResident from the angry mobs...
What if I have to pee?
I don't understand hatred. I don't understand why people think that hatred is the answer. I don't understand why it is in this part of the country. I am so sad to see people who could use their valuable time healing and doing good works that in the eyes of our planetary existance is so direly needed instead destroy themselves and their neighbor's trust. No one changes in hatred.
"One of the benefits of this strike is that the Portland will not live in peace until our conditions are met."
Bin Laden proclaims complete control of USA power grid.
The communiqué read: "let the criminal Bush and his gang know that the punishment is the result of the action, the soldiers of God cut the power on these cities, they darkened the lives of the Americans as these criminals blackened the lives of the Muslim people in Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine. The Americans lived a black day they will never forget. They lived a day of terror and fear... a state of chaos and confusion where looting and pillaging rampaged the cities, just like the capital of the caliphate Baghdad, and Afghanistan and Palestine were. Let the American people take a sip from the same glass."
Five wonderful speeches were given to denounce George W. Bush and his visit to Oregon to promote his "healthy forest initiative." Among Them were CFA, PPRC, Code Pink, and the Portland Alliance to name a few. To our surprise, the Portland Police, and the University of Portland Security patrolling the area, a tree-sit was well underway. After the press conference a banner drop was held from a tree one block south of the main entrance to the University of Portland on N Portsmouth. Police (ten officers in all including U of P security) began to tape off the area with crime scene tape to block off any pedestrian traffic from entering the immediate area around the tree-sit. Slowly but surely after it was announce the tree-sitters began to lower their belongings, bag after water bottle. Police then took their things and put them into their police cars. [
A treesit went up Tuesday morning at the Cascadia Forest Alliance press conference that was held at the U of P Campus. The 3 treesitters were arrested when they came down. At least 2 people attending the event have been arrested. One was for tresspassing on the property of the Public Safety Building, which ironically, is privately owned. Police say they warned people earlier, but one eyewitness says the person arrested had just arrived and so could not know whether the police had warned people or not. More details to follow.
It's OK to protest the war again.
Portland Says No to Bush is organizing carpools to the rally against Bush Thursday.
I think the best thing that we, as a group, can do when the police pull out their "Declaring an Emergency, leave the area" bullshit would be for ALL protestors (esp those in the front line) to TURN THEIR BACKS to the police.
The University of Portland is in a part of town that many of us are not familiar with. Many of us also strongly disapprove of driving cars, and therefore need alternate methods for reaching the Thursday morning protest at Columbia Park. Here are those alternative options.
. . . PPRC?s next general meeting will be held Tuesday evening August 20th at 5pm (note change of time) at Koinonia Houselocated on the Portland State University Campus at the corner of SW Broadway and Montgomery.
. . .Change of time will allow those at PPRC meeting to attend Medea Benjamin lecture next door in Smith Ballroom at 7pm. . . .An important item on PPRC agenda this meeting is decision to acquire permits and stage a family friendy demonstration against Bush visit near the University of Portland campus.
