FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Right 2 Survive
PORTLAND, OREGON---On Friday, June 8th at 10:30 am, nonprofit Right 2 Survive kicks off the eighth annual Pitch a Tent, a 24-hour direct action event designed to elevate the conversation around survival camping in our community.
Pitch a Tent highlights the diverse lived experience of unhoused and formerly unhoused people through music, testimony, interactive art and education. It calls attention to the cognitive dissonance present in city decisions that once a year allow for recreational camping along the 4.2 mile Grand Floral Parade route, while criminalizing the everyday efforts to survive of those who have no other choice but to live outside.
Guest speakers and performers include housed and unhoused advocates, activists, and local musicians such as activist and hip hop promoter Mic Crenshaw. The stage will be located at the corner of SW 4th and Washington. This is an all day event beginning at 12 until midnight.
Those wishing to camp on Friday night in a show of solidarity, or looking for more information please visit the Facebook event page for PAT 2018 on the Right2Survive page.
